SHEPHERDED! - Lead and Feed Series 005

Genesis 26:2, KJV

"And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:"

Recently on LinkedIn, I read a post of a lady who earns Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira monthly. She recently had an opening to travel abroad besides this also but she's confused whether to leave her job and free apartment in Abuja to travel abroad. Nigeria in recent times for instance seems hard but here is someone who seems to be living very large. She posted that in order to seek the advise of her LinkedIn family and I read some telling her to stick to her job here and all other privileges she enjoys. Why travel abroad when your target is comfortably being achieved here in your country?

This describes Isaac. When famine struck, he wanted to go to Egypt for refuge but God said "no." God told him to stay back in that same land because to his downlines He'll give it. He stayed, sowed in that land and he had a very troubling testimony.

Genesis 26:12, KJV

"Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him."

Would Isaac have ordinarily reaped hundred fold from that land? No! That was in famine but the blessings of a guided Christian begins to overtake him. What I'll like you see is this. You actually don't know how things might turn out to be. God sees into the future. Have you wondered why people go to do consultation. Because they don't want any part of their lives to be hidden from them. They wanted to be aware. So, man is limited because he ordinary and alone don't have all the information by which he could prepare or plan for the future. Having eyes who sees all, knows all is therefore an advantage as the Divine could bring into one's life privileged information where one is limited. To Isaac, it was, "stay in this same land." That lady who needed advice and threw it open could be deciphered for not knowing the Shepherd. If she does, God would have made plain to her whether to leave or go. Now, she's looking for the majority to carry the votes for her on what she'll do. That's dangerous. She's hoping which side to decide to go based on the persuasion of people.

As simple as God's instruction was to Isaac, it saved him from the headache of travelling to Egypt (where he believed economically they're doing well) to remain in Gerar (that despised land). This obedience however brought a reward to Isaac just like that lady who still earns and live big in an economically depressed country. She's clear she didn't want to leave for abroad. That's why she threw it open. Forfeiting those privileges she's receiving here looks to her like "calamity." Yet, many considers a calamity staying back. No matter how terrible and worst the situation of a country may be, there'll still be people who will live fairly well in there. God is therefore putting it to you to await instructions for your life. If Isaac had gone to Egypt, he wouldn't have sowed in the same despised land and reap hundred fold until he became the envy of all economically. While going abroad isn't bad yet it must be at God's command. If God has work for you here and you leave for abroad, you'll be alone because God won't be your companion. You would have left him behind in your former base where He waits to make you a wonder to the world and bring honey out of the rock for you. Be rightly situated by God and the concerns of people won't be your concern. You'll so much have more than enough that you won't even see reasons to "flee." You'll always be in a strait like that lady who got confused and needed to be persuaded as to why she should leave.

PRAYER: Lord, be my eyes in alternatives. Guide me. Sit me when I need to sit, rise me when I need to rise.

A CALL TO REMEMBER - Lead and Feed Series 004

Exodus 2:24-25, KJV

"24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob. 25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them."

In series 003 (not yesterday's devotional) but that of two days ago, I brought to us under the anointing why Psalm 23:1 should first be lived out as an instruction before we lay hold on it to put God in remembrance of meeting our needs. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want", it says. It means, if the Lord is not or has not become your own Shepherd (by your making Him so), you will reap poverty plentifully and suffer want adequately. On how to learn how to willingly and realistically surrender or make Him your Shepherd, read series 003 of "Lead and Feed Series."

The children of Israel sighed by the reason of their bondage in Egypt. They were nearing breaking point. "Sighing" reveals great discomfort. No one sighs who's not or had been under a weight or load. So, as they sighed, groaned and cried, their lament reached God. Now, what did that pulled trigger effects? It created an instantaneous response. That place read, "and God remembered His covenant with Abraham/other patriarchs (Gen.15:13-14, 18-21)." Now, what connection would this remembrance serve in relation to their own suffering? Permit me to say the remembrance of that covenant is actually their salvation. From the time God remembers, He recalls His promise to Abraham that his downlines would be strangers in a foreign land where they'll serve for 400 years before evacuation at 430 (Exo.1 2:40-41). Afterwards, He'll bring them out and have them possess the land flowing with milk and honey - Canaan. So, that remembrance brought to God's memory that "these ones are Mine. I owe an obligation to them. I can't but act. Their suffering should stop now. They should hereunto be delivered." If you check the next chapter, we for once get introduced to Moses, their soon to be called deliverer.

However, Israel's groaning would have been in vain if they had not been grafted into covenant when Abraham was making it. All that nation at that time were in Abraham when he was cutting that covenant with God. A prove is that Levi was inside the loins of Abraham when he paid tithe to Melchizedek (Heb.7: 9-10). Let me tell you, if your great great ones cut covenants with spirits; even till date, those spirits may still want to see to your affairs especially if you've not renounced the works of darkness. If at any time you mistakenly act or behave somehow as to pull the trigger of remembrance of the terms of their covenants with your ancestors, just like the dead soldiers in Ezekiel 37, they'll rise up a great army and come and do whatever were the terms of those covenants to you. It doesn't matter if you're even in the diaspora. They don't need your permission to act. Someone or some people gave you over just like Abraham gave Israel - a whole nation to God to watch over. Even at the demise of Abraham, the watching over still continues. That's how stubborn a covenant is irrespective of its kind.

Brethren, what am I seeking to establish? If there has not been a relationship of Shepherd-sheep between you and God, if you lament to Him that you're in need, He won't give you the satisfaction of a disciple. So, you can't but get to the point of hunger, disappointment, frustration, begging and salivation for anything that could temporarily cure you. That's the point described in the affirmative as, "I shall not want." If Israel was not in covenant with Jehovah, let them roar like thunder, God wouldn't have been that way obligated to them. What am I saying? Your relationship, sonship, commitment to God is what will bring His obligation. Sell yourself out first of all. Let all your acts proceed from Him. Make Him your sight and walk in His footsteps. Until then, you can't reap where you've not sown. How can you call Him "Lord, Lord" and expect salvation when you don't know Him? I have a beloved. I'm obligated to her because we're in a relationship. Another I wouldn't give attention to. "And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers (John 10:5, KJV).

Today, beyond any shadow of doubt, God demands you to lay your whole life down at His feet so that He'll govern your step by step. It is then you won't lack (because you'll be led to where God has seen there are green pasture and still waters). It's then you won't die untimely also because He'll ensure your path and that of the destroyer or eliminator doesn't cross (by His guidance that'll make you avoid it).

PRAYER: [Confess your sins and call Christ into your life]. That was to those who needs Salvation. Decide to always consult Him for His leading. Pray that He'll hear you in the day of affliction.

STOP THINKING IT INCREDIBLE!

WHY DO YOU THINK IT INCREDIBLE THAT GOD SHOULD DO THE IMPOSSIBLE?

I was cleaning up when I began my contemplation which almost got me flogged. I had asked, "nowadays, how could one get such hectares of land (like 100 in one place) where a city would be built?" I concluded, "they've owned and purchased all such available quantity of land." Just then, God came out of the blues. You remember as Abraham was about slaughtering Isaac, a voice came from heaven that instant to stop him (Gen.22:9-12). That was exactly what happened to me. That voice disclosed in this manner. "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you that God should raise the dead?" I knew it was a direct quotation from the Bible and it means, "why do you have the thinking that a thing is unachievable, unbelievable or that it's impossible to be done? What if God is involved? Will it still be beyond belief or be too implausible to be true? Immediately, I sat right and I knew that was God cautioning me from disbelieving in possibilities and my prophecies. Believe it, I apologized. I said, "sorry sir." Then, I took dressing.

God illustrated to me further. He showed me the pastor of the largest church and said, "when I promised him a city, were the lands not all taken then? Were men not as covetous then as they are now? Do you think it would have been better thinking that way in his time or making you such promise and delivery then than now?" I had thought so. I had thought to be able to have such expanse of land that could accommodate a city of people and civilization (with churches, schools, banks, shopping malls, stadiums, parks, gardens, museums, just mention it), one must have owned it by now or probably since. He furthered "was land not as costly for those who wanted it at that time as it is now? Are you claiming it is easier making money then than making now for purchase? Have I even told you you'll use your money to buy me such land? Was it not some people who owned and possessed those lands at that time? How come he now has them for a city of the Lord?" After all these confronts, I was in agreement!

He proceeded, "I willed Canaan to Israel but hope you remember there were dwellers there? Hope you know it was actually not Israel's land from the start but I made some wicked idolatrous nations holders until Israel was ready and mature for its possession." I nodded to that also. Then, He went back to ask me, "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you then that I [God] should raise the dead? (Acts 26:8).

"That God should raise the dead" there means "that God should do the impossible or that which is too good to be believed." I couldn't talk and He knew I had acknowledged my fault. I took my words back so it would be unto me according to His word, mind and prediction. I won't doubt. I'll be Mary at heart to see the prophesied things that await their times. He had opened the Bible further to enlighten me by quoting me these verses below.

Job 28:7-8, KJV

"7 There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen: 8 The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it."

God told me, "there are still reserved properties, virgin lands, unexplored arables despite the covetousness of men to own properties here and there and claim it all for themselves." I still have new things to do and offer. They are "eyes have not seen, ears have not heard and matters that have not entered into any heart (I Cor.2:9)." However, they're only prepared for those who love me - true followers, labourers and servicemen and women."  All in all, I was humbled and quietened.

People, as humans, we're men of desires. We have an endless "longitudinal" and "latitudinal" list of what we want to experience or achieve. However, we have reasons enough as to why each can't be achieved though we wanted them achieved. We're not to be blamed expressly, it is because we're limited in ourselves. Our frame is dust and so our contemplation and thinking at times may be doubtful and way earthly: void of any divine sense or revelation. God is saying I should ask you, "wetin you think say be hard like rock which you don call mission impossible because of some reasons? E said make you no commonise Him, E go do am for you." What baffles you don't roughen Him up. Mountains are not different from valleys to Him. The night is as day to Him. It is we humans who do classifications based on evidences we have found and named tangible. Those evidences may include "doctors' reports, human assessment of one's capabilities etc." So, having gone round this way, we draw a line, shut the door at ourselves and say, "that one is too high, marvelous, too important, really exotic and unimaginably dope to be fulfilled." At times, you may say, "those who are qualified for such life or extravagance are the heroes of faith or millionaires." You see, we call it "incredible, too shocking to occur, outrightly impossible or too high to touch." Once you get squashed into this form of thinking, you stop dreaming. Once dreams stop, hope and faith wanes to drop dead. Then, you stop living the non friction life that believes nothing is INCREDIBLE, SURPRISING, SHOCKING or TOO BIG for God to deliver.

The Lord is on me. He's heavy on me and I could sense Him. He is asking me to ask you to make a list of all the things that you have classified as "incredible or impossible" and attach their "WHYs" to it. God said, "He wants to glory over those WHYs which you thought could hinder Him from delivering answers to you just like He gloried both over the horse and its rider at the Red Sea."  He said "He wanted to see them." They're pretty light in His sight. Paul asked those present that day as he tables his matter before the council, "do you think it incredible (unbelievable, big, gigantic, magnanimous, impossible) that God should raise the dead? Do you think you are not born for some testimonies? There must be a why for this kind of thinking or belief and as I hear, I speak to you that "God is taking them over." He's enough for them and He'll wrap Himself round them all. That is God's own doing - to do the incredible, to do the impossible stemming from human judgement. With God, no mission is impossible. He will go and come. You, just hang on in faith. You, hold your peace. Sit at His right hand (of believing, observing and partnering on and on) and see Him to your face realize all those impossibilities which you've believed are too high to be given.

I ask conclusively, "Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead (do the impossible)?" What are your reasons? Is it scarcity of fund or health issue? Please, why do you think A or B is impossible? God is glorying over all your reasons. Did he not consume the sacrifice, the stones, wood and leak the water too (I Kings 18:38). Nothing shall be spared. He'll go round. I call Him Eliminator quick quick. Here, He is at work. Let Jesus be glorified in your situation. He has not stopped being beautiful for every situation. Believe it. It is not incredible with God to deliver you that impossibility.

THE CONFESSION OF TRUE CHILDREN - Lead and Feed Series 003

Psalms 23:1, KJV

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

Who does, "the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want" really works for? Drivers on the highways who aren't even born again but inscribe it on their vehicles or the heathen and Christians who have not even made the Lord their shepherd? Who does it really work for? It is high time we began seeing "the Lord is my shepherd" as an instruction and not a confession first of all. The only category of people who are permitted to confess Psalm 23 are those who are disciples. I mean those who are so meek as to enquire and receive daily instructions on how they should live their lives. Whenever such Christians say, "the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want", he's only affirming his position and what he already had subscribed to. Already, he's born again. Yet, this man would pray to find out what God wants of him per time. He doesn't go to school because others are going. He won't marry because he's of age and has money. God must give him a "ram" to prompt him to action. An "Eve" must be brought him at the observation of God that he shouldn't be lonely again. So, he does each act at the command of God. God must first be his eyes. He must watch out for him. It is then the whispers of God to him whether he could launch or not will now become the instruction that guides him and which people will see his body acting out. A Christian isn't an impulsive actor but a guided actor. Many are today and they have accidents and several breakdowns for it. "The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Think it well. Don't accuse God and claim Him to be a role player of what you haven't relinquished your position to make Him. If your whole time and life is not in God's hands, every time you confess this, you lie and accuse God.

Psalms 31:15, KJV

"My times are in thy hand."

That becomes sin since He isn't the administrator of your life - One from Who your acts stem from . When you say somebody is not who he is in your life, you lie and lying is sin. So, refrain from vain confession. I'll like you know that one thousand confessions of Psalm 23 won't offer you leading except you work it practically first of all. I laugh at what Christianity  has become and how idiotic so many people are. They're using heads instead of their hearts. Everything that could glorify God is what they're substituting because it rhymes and fit with what they naturally want. Is it not easy to profess? But, how easy it is to submit to another man's will for one's life? Don't we know how many calls Him "Lord, Lord" yet who He didn't know and would deny at day's end? How many people are so meek enough like the arrested and broken Saul as to ask, "what will you have me do?" Once you get here, you're beginning to make God your Shepherd. He knows what you should do and the path you should take, He'll show and direct you in there. This is where you say, "not my will but Yours." However, how many Christians operate this? That's why their lives are full of mockery and it seems unbelievers are proving biblical principles wrong that could have given them the good life and made them a testimony to the world.

If I say "the Lord is my Shepherd", the Shepherd will hear. Why? I have esteemed Him first as that role player in my life. We wait until we hear him on matters. If he's not speaking, then we pray more. So, the confession of  "the Lord is my Shepherd" is just an ignite or a prayer of remembrance to call God to the task and responsibilities of who I have taken Him to be in my life. You have not submitted to Him as Shepherd yet you want the deliveries of a Shepherd? You've not submitted to Him as Lord yet you call Him same. What a mockery! Is that how by force you father and impose yourself on those children who do not receive you as a mentor first of all? Won't you be infringing on their rights? If you're married and you say, "Alice is my wife", that confession isn't vague or vain. She is because both of you have exchanged vows. You're only reaffirming what is known because you want Alice show off or answer like a wife. And she will because she owes you an obligation of a wife. She'll come around and greet her in-laws and they'll relate as one. You aren't confessing publicly what you don't know existed first of all but there's a madness I have seen, "it is calling God Who people have not allowed Him to be first of all in their lives." Who will make Him Lord and Shepherd? You. Be a doer and not he who looks his face in the mirror now and forgets what he looks like in a second. Let it be known that God is your shepherd by how you rely on Him to guide you. Act it before speaking it. He'll indeed take over.

The relationship between couples make them answer to each other, so also is "the Lord is my Shepherd" a triggering device to seeing the acts of the good Shepherd. We only use that to summon Him since we've been obedient and submissive to Him as our Shepherd. If you've not, you'll never for once see the good acts of the Shepherd. You'll rather go your own way and experience what it means to be a wanderer. The Lord is my Shepherd is first an instruction that must be binding on any who don't want to be in want. If you indeed submit to God as your guide and you take Him  for same indeed, you obligate Him to see to your wants. Honour God that way first and see Him honour your wants. Lips honour isn't honour at all. Pay it with acts.

PRAYER: The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. I trigger the pact that's between us. Remember Lord. Come on scene and meet my needs.

HE KNOWS WHERE IT IS HAPPENING - Lead and Feed Series 002

Read I Kings 17:1-16

Psalms 23:2, KJV

"He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters."

If you've been relying on God to live your life previously (even though you work), as you see God shows up where you've trusted Him, it would build you up in your inner man to trust Him the more. You must start as to grow in the faith of trusting God to meet your needs. Many Christians only have their needs met through their own income or the labour of their hands. They don't till the other side where the Shepherd could send men to them or send them to men. God knows where it is happening and if you show total reliance on Him and consult Him before you move any day, any time, He'll lead you to where the food of the day, tomorrow or the future is. This is done in what choices and decisions He'll guide you to make which will consequently preserve you. The vultures are birds of prey and they only gather where the carcass is. If these birds have enough common sense to opt only for where food is, will God in His infiniteness not care enough leading you to where what you call want will be nailed and fixed. He knows where the green pasture is and He sure leads there. Let Him lead the way. God is the One who should be believed as totally having the ability to ordain our path with goodness. You can't orchestrate it. A praying Christian is a boneless Christian actually. The more anyone prays reveals his dependence on God. His dependence on God is what will make God adopt him and make him the sheep of His pasture. God won't force leadership on you. You must submit yourself and prove to be ready.

After the decree of Elijah, the man of God that there'll neither be dew or rain, God knew He'll be endangered by his own prophecy. Immediately, the Word of the Lord came to him. The first was for him to depart to Brook Cherith before Jordan. God told him he had commanded the ravens to feed him there. You see, Elijah had to leave "here" for "there." He had to be led to where God had discovered the next move to be for him. "Gold mines" of provision may be hidden to men's sight but God knows it even when disguised in a small setup that you wouldn't find comfortable to work in. There won't be food, there won't be water but God can still locate where water would be for His own. When God leads you somewhere, He prepares the ground before you. It wasn't Elijah who instructed the ravens to bring him food. He had no language to set forth communication with them. God did. They were awaiting his arrival and at arrival, they swiftly went into business.

Not long however, the brook dried up. This is where we test if leading is real. What happens again? God's instruction came again. Depart to Zarephath for I have commanded a widow to sustain you there. On each occasion, Elijah survived on instructions, on being led and on obeying it. It is God who sees the vision of tomorrow. That's why He might come to work from your future into your present now. Let God help you to make choices and decisions. Each one you make right seals you against any inroad of the devil into your life. The devil is an opportunist. He's looking around to get into people's lives by the cracks left there. If God tells you not to take a job, it is because He has a premonition of things yet to happen even if all makes sense now. We humans live at the present at best but with God, you have a search engine and full light to see into the future. It is this that'll preserve you, break the back of needs and makes you look like a wonder to many. For as many who will wait on God before they make any turn, their lives can never be a revelation of mockery even if they're thought to be slow by people at the moment. An instruction correctly received and heeded to make a choice puts you ahead a thousand times of he who lives his life naturally. When the flood comes, we'll see who will float!

PRAYER: Teach me waiting on Thee. May I live on daily words from You. I float. I'm sustained.

THOSE WHO SAY THE LORD IS THEIR SHEPHERD - Lead and Feed Series 001

Read Psalm 23

Psalms 23:1,KJV

"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."

Brethren, many deceive themselves too much. Many Christians (born again) are not actually being led. The confession of Psalm 23 do not immediately make you he who won't be in want - desire for a particular need to be met over time continuously yet not met. It is the fulfilling of it that will put God under obligation of seeing to it that even if you have needs, it never stays long enough till it'll really be felt that you're in want because your needs are not met. That's disgrace! Many would say, "the Lord is my shepherd." I'll say, 'and so what?" What difference does that makes. Confession doesn't buy you God's commitment like that. There are many who call God good, good names without good, good things to show for it. You may be calling He Who you don't know (as a Shepherd) and He Who doesn't know you (as a sheep). Those who have made God the spearhead of their lives, so much more that He has indeed become their shepherd because they let Him be are those who only have the clear conscience and all necessary qualification to await the coming into manifestation of "I shall not want." God knows the sheep of His pasture!

Who's a shepherd? He's a guide, a leader, feeder and protector. That's why the ministry of a pastor is that of a shepherd. It is the responsibility of any shepherd to ensure that his sheep are led where they'll be fed and by that subsequently stop being in want or need of pasture (grass).  Any reasonable human shepherd cares that much enough for his sheep. So, if you make claim that the Lord is your shepherd, it means you must have become a sheep. A sheep doesn't argue or has its own initiative. That's why sheep have been taken by those who don't really understand their meekness for being the dumbest of animals. They don't take laws into their hands. Until the shepherd says, "that side" and sways them their with his staff, no one goes. They await what He'll say by which they govern their lives, families, careers, ministries and all their wherewithal. They don't run until they hear his shot. That's why Jesus says that His sheep hears his voice (John 10:4). There ought not to be a sheep who won't be able to hear the voice of his shepherd. His communication must be clear to them. Will you have a pet who can't discern you from strangers?

Now, if indeed you've become a sheep to God, the Shepherd, then you're qualified for feeding. Leading is the first discharge of a shepherd to his sheep. It isn't feeding. Leading is the transportation that will take you to the location where the carcass is. If I may tell you, don't think you know it. Some Christians always love the peripherals. What delights flesh is solely what they want. They desire a "bless me God" and not an "instruct me God." Can we collect one from God and hope not to be served the other? Stop joking. That's why God first of all created a prerequisite to being fed. It is being led. Those who have not submitted to being shepherded are out of plans of ever being fed let alone never being in want. I hope you know there are thirsty wants - where someone will hope and hope yet he's still hoping that the thing will drop and yet it's not dropping until they get disgraced, tired, left behind by the community of other people etc. Have you qualify for His leading? Do you consult Him on all areas of your life? Even without opening your mouth to pray at times, do you carry the consciousness that, "I'll do as He bids or reveals to me on this matter", or you just live your life on your own. The Shepherd is not looking for rude, impatient Christians. He's looking for meek, submissive ones. If you're a child of God, the mark is that you have an inbuilt system of hearing God in you. That means you're opened to God's communication because your spirit has been regenerated (John 1:12, Rom.8:14). But what if He withholds communicating to you at times, do you ask Him perterm how you should go? The job you said yes to, the business you began, the relocation you did, the hospital and school you registered your wife and children in, of whom did you seek consent and who released you to do same? When people don't confirm things, they go into things they'll later become doubtful over and pull out from. Waiting on God until He speaks or begins to make situations work out in your favour which you'll later see and acknowledge as a by product of having sought God is what God is calling you to. If you pray to God, even if you have more than an offer, He can lean them down to the one you should pick for you. God is the One who knows the heart of all men. He differentiates between Mathias and Barsabas at all times. It is not always He'll direct you where they'll pay you less but He solely determines "your still waters" - where you'll have maximal peace and still be useful to Him. Are you saying that God won't know the spouse, location etc that will suit you? Today, God is calling you to humble humility to first of all see reasons why you've continually being indebted, always being in want and entering one trouble or the other. It is because He's actually not your shepherd practically. He's technically since you're born again but how you live, relate and acknowledge Him will show whether He is really or you're just honouring with your mouth.

PRAYER: Father, forgive my having accused you of being my Shepherd when you've not been but I've expected you to provide. Help my dedication to daily let you have your way in my living and choices.

WHAT A SACRIFICE FOR MY LORD! - My Lord Series 002

1 Chronicles 11:17, KJV

"And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

Once you become a leader who has built reputation with men, one whose life of sacrifice has become an example and by same made disciples of men, you'll always be prompting men to follow in your footsteps. David only longed for water and then made the mistake of soliloquizing his desire. He thought it would just slip but his desire became a request and an errand for some to carry out. Mind you, David didn't say they should go and fetch him water. He only desired drinking water from that well in all honesty but never said it out in order to compel them. When it was heard however, some put their lives at risk to fetch him.  Yet, where the water is located is where a military post is. How easy it would be getting water from the garrison of the enemy.

1 Chronicles 11:18, KJV

"And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the LORD."

Now, "they break through" means they fought their way through. To arrive at that water was not easy but they fought a whole troop of soldiers to have it fetched in order to meet the longing of David. Leadership has worth and we can't lie about it. David himself had exemplified a life of sacrifice many times and it isn't a surprise that some are now willing to die to make him have his wishes. Be careful of what you're unserious about because it may become the errand of some. One day, I just confessed to myself taking "garri." Before you knew it, they had gone to prepare food for me. And with all sincerity, it was not straight up food I wanted to eat but just that "garri." Once you're a beloved and you have series of work that speaks for you, men would always be willing to go the extra mile for you and even give you better than you might ask for. We saw it in yesterday's devotional. Sisera asked for water but he was given milk.

What did David therefore do with that water? He poured it away. He wouldn't drink it. He himself was made afraid by the acts of these three mighty men. If he had taken it, he would have been taken their blood. At times, what people do for leaders is what reveals them as those who indeed cherish them truly. Until then, they may only be smelling the smoke of it. The same goes with God. You can build such distinguishing relationship of importance with Him that your wishes send angels on errands. It would be at arrival that you'll be telling God, "but I didn't mean it." He'll tell you, "anything for you because that's how much I cherish you." What those three mighty men jeopardized their lives to do for David is a revelation of the kind of sacrifice made for leaders. May God however make us humble and discerning leaders to know what sort to "pour unto the Lord" and not take as honour to ourselves.

PRAYER: Teach me a life of sacrifice that compels others to live same. May I not be a covetous leader who jeopardize his followers.
