I HAVE NO PLEASURE IN THEM

Ecclesiastes 12:1, KJV

"Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them."

I psychologically tried to put myself in the shoes of a ninety year old man; I found out that a ninety year old man would have retired from whatever might have been his life long goal. For me, that would be ministry and at ninety, one could have left the pulpit to turning his gazes to the other world. Ask ninety year old men and women, they become really retrospective, waiting for death. At such time, one would have seen the death of peers, madness/folly of the human hearts, the fallen away of many, lies of the devil, victories of the Lord and known the mortality of man as reality.

That may be the moment when the younger ones in ministry will see as a fitting time to visit that great man of God. It might be story after story of how the teaching grace and the anointing works one will tell. On occasions, one might lay hands or impart certain wise ones who dare to ask.

As I was meditating, I asked, why do elderly or old people lose pleasure? Obviously, I do know some reasons but I had to ask and research to know a range of reasons and peculiarities why old people lose interest in what they once admired or delighted in, even in life entirely. I'm not here to parrot those reasons. I just needed them for my own education and not to make up this teaching.

The truth is this, nothing in humans lasts forever. We'll tone down and if you're observant, we daily and constantly tone down. The wear and tear of life is actually having us. We're aging and as we do, a lot of things change about our mental and physical health. We change and move from one status of depreciation to the other. It is this that necessitates the physical exercise, dieting and medical solution many have come to put in place. This change in status in man is necessary so that he tune or prepare for his long home when he dies. What I've found out is this, the more we age, the more we'll lose interest and pleasure in life.

There's a sense of pleasure that a twenty year old man has that a fifty year old man doesn't have. One will be more easily impressed by many things than the other. Do you know why? One is just tasting and raiding them. Then, take a fifty year old man and compare to a seventy year old man. Then, compare the latter to a ninety year old man. It seems to me that pleasure wears out as we age. Therefore, "the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life" that once had grip on people notably to a very good extent loses their grips on anyone as he grows older. Rather, they tend to think more of their everlasting home. They tend to think of spending the day they are in as their last. They tend to make time for family and friends, distribute the life's goods their hands once took from life - giving portions to one or more.

On this note, the all knowing God who knows the end from the beginning admonishes us to remember Him in the days of our youth when the evil days haven't come, when you're not yet dull of hearing and none of your senses impaired. Time of your youth is still when you have Grade A physical/mental health. You can enjoy music or any joy to the highest. It's at that time you can appreciate God and keep devotion with Him to the highest as well. Beware, it's a law, the days will draw near when you'll say, "I have no pleasure in them (a range of many things) that could be summed up as life again. Yet, you once pursued those things, you once ate those things, visited those places, wore those clothes, haggled to have those things. However, what has changed? Interest and focus! Now, old age has produced a 'bride' so to say being made ready for her bridegroom. It is a law! It'll happen to you and I. Therefore, may the days we can consciously use to feel be used to feel, search and breathe after God. May we spend our time to know Him now that we still and can sustain interest for such pursuit!

PRAYER: Lord, have I been re-tracked to see wrongly or pursue after the wind. Give me a better revelation of esteeming knowing and having You.
