WHAT SHALL BE ON THE MORROW

James 4:13-14, KJV

"13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

God would want me to ask you. Do you know what shall be on the morrow? Do you have an inkling, glimpse, hint and insight into what your world and the global stage might hold tomorrow? Can you forecast it? Can you predict it? Have you seen it all?

No matter your professionalism and the kind of accuracy you choose to profess, I believe you don't know what tomorrow holds except it's granted to you. Nobody actually knows what tomorrow holds is a true saying. That's because instability could rock when we anticipate peace and peace can be maintained when we anticipate destabilization. That's why that Bible verse says, "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow...even your life can be taken." That saying is to those who are boastfully speaking, "They shall do this and that - be in that city or that other one without acknowledging God in their thinking." This is not about not taking thought to plan but rather it is the exclusion of acknowledging God in one's plans.

Speaking of not knowing what might happen tomorrow as that passage says, I'll have us look at Elisha and the sons of the prophets. They suggested enlarging where they dwell. Elisha wouldn't have followed them until someone had asked that he should be pleased to follow them. They never anticipated that something would go wrong. In all their futuristic plans, they couldn't have known that someone's axe head would be lost in the water. Even the axe head was borrowed. What if Elisha had not been asked to follow? What if they had acted unilaterally all alone without acknowledging God in his life?

II Kings 6:5, KJV

"But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed."

Rather the Bible is teaching us humility and acknowledgement of the divine. Instead of boastful railings, it says, "But ye ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that."

This last verse should communicate something deeper to us. Our life depends on God. He even controls what we're able to do. Your existence tomorrow is not even guaranteed. It depends on God. This is a direct challenge to human confidence and independence.

"If the Lord wills" is not a mere confession. It is rather the posture of your heart. It is a constant awareness that God decides and not you. Look at the Bible.

Psalm 37:5

"Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass."

Another place says in Proverbs 21:31, "The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD" (KJV).

Human responsibility is key but divine sovereignty cannot be forfeited. May you have the heart that acknowledges God in all his ways. May you always remember your Creator even in the tiniest details of your life.

PRAYER: May this awareness be in me that you're the Lord. Therefore, let your name be glorified.

RESILIENCE!

Ecclesiastes 4:12, KJV

"And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken."

I once talked about building a multilayered system into one's life. When you do, you can endure, withstand and defend against collapse. When the Bible says in Ecclesiastes 11:2, "Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth", what the Bible is teaching us is resilience.

A man who has shares or investment in one organization only still doesn't have economic resilience. A man who only has one stream of income hasn't built resilience either. Resilience is if the brook dries up, do you have a widow of Zarephath as another stream of income that can feed you and family for many days. Continuity and survival is why we build resilience. Resilience comes from building a multidimensional system so that one can kickstart as soon as the other(s) fails. This way, you can never crash or experience disappointment. Rather, you'll always be borne up instead of dashing your foot on a stone. Instead of being disgraced and broken, you'll rather receive aid and intervention from where else you have sown and invested something in your days of abundance.

That is building resilience. It is moulding a system that will ensure your continuity even when collapses begin - irrespective of what type it is. The dictionary has defined the word "resilience" in a number of ways. Let's see some. "The physical property of material that can resume its shape after being stretched or deformed; elasticity."

"The positive capacity of an organizational system or company to adapt and return to equilibrium after a crisis, failure or any kind of disruption, including: an outage, natural disasters, man-made disasters, terrorism, or similar (particularly IT systems, archives).

"The capacity to resist destruction or defeat, especially when under extreme pressure."

All those three definitions explain something great about resilience - the life that can persist and not collapse when besieged on all sides. The Bible verse for today says, "And if one prevails against him, two shall withstand him..."

This part begins to show us the importance of building an anti-fragility system. Brittleness will collapse and cannot withstand. We all know that one man can easily get beaten up or bullied. But when they are two, they can easily stand against their bully and defend against him. That is the importance of not being alone but more importantly, building resilience. That second layer (second person) that is added to yourself is your layer for resilience. Then, the Bible takes it further by saying, "A threefold cord is not easily broken..."

People have mostly applied this to couples in marriage and God as the third cord. We may not debate that but that verse is only telling us an obvious truth. If you weave a yearn of three threads together, how easily snapped are they? It'll be hard to snap them. That's because each of the yearns serves as a buffer and aid to the other from being broken. So, resilience is actively being portrayed in that. In the face of pressure, you'll continue because you're not alone but are in a working relationship where partners who can help you bounce back and continue when crisis strikes.

A single tree doesn't make a forest. You can't have a poem in an anthology. In building any system that will resist collapse and defend against it, it must be a multilayered system - woven together to stand in unison to defend against pressure or crisis. Let me show you what it's like to build such a thorough system that doesn't fail or allow any defeat.

I Kings 19:15-17, KJV

"15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay."

These verses are about God's coming judgement. The "sword" is symbolic of judgement. At this time, Israel had gone deep into idolatry under Ahab and Jezebel and God is seeking to do a cleansing - a deep one.

Hazael symbolizes the external pressure (war from Syria). Jehu is an internal military (he overthrew Ahab’s house violently). Elisha is the prophetic authority (God’s word exposing and confronting sin).

Together, they form a kind of complete system, like a net no one can slip through. If anyone in rebellion or idolatry escapes the judgement the first one brings, they can't possibly escape the second 'sword' but if that still happens, the third set-up will deliver and implement the will of God.

That is building a system that can endure, keep continuity and performance of its purpose no matter what comes. God wants you to build this kind of buffering system into your life. When you build it spiritually (having spiritual partners), financially (having streams of income) and in other needful areas, what will break you will be tired out. You can then always win or endure until aid comes!

PRAYER: Lord, show me critical relationships to sharpen for resilience. Teach me the company of wealth and its building.

INSURED!

II Kings 7:8, KJV

"And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it."

What you do with resources when it comes into your hands is more powerful than having that resources itself. Also, what we do with abundance in its season is a greater wisdom signalling our survival in days to come.

When the seven years of abundance came upon Egypt, the advice of Joseph was to take the fifth part of everything harvested and store it up. In his words, "it'll be food for the coming seven years of famine" (Gen. 41:34-36).

God is not unjust. He seeks to equate you to the challenge. That's why the Bible says in I Corinthians 10:13, "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

Most often, God will always visit you with the way of escape before the problem comes. It may be by preparing you for hard days or by giving you superfluous abundance that could be invested for days of stringencies.

Look at these lepers. They know they are thrusted out people. They know they have no inheritance in the city. They know they are left to plan for themselves. And guess what they do in the day of abundance.

After they had met their primary and most pressing need of eating and drinking, they immediately insured themselves. The Bible says, "...and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it."

Do you see what they did? They didn't insure themselves once. They did it over and over again. They hid silver, gold and raiment. These are useful items that they can fall back on when the season of abundance the prophet prophesied and which has come is over.

That reminds me of this same principle of "repeated action" that Elijah did on Mount Carmel. When it was time to pour water round the altar, he told them to do it over and over again. What you do over and over again is what has effective potency to save you. Once is not enough. Saving and investing must become your habit. That's the only thing that can leave a mark on you or be resilient to stand in hard times.

I Kings 18:33-35, KJV

"33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water."

You see, if Elijah had only filled the trench with water once or twice, he might not have the testimony of water running round about the altar as recorded. It was his repeated actions that gave him that kind of overflowing or bustling abundance.

In insuring yourself against the harsh economic weather of the future, it is not what you do once. You must do it over and over again. Even the Bible says, "Joseph gathered grains like the sands of the seashore until he left counting" (Gen. 41:49).

You must have enough bustling and resilient investment/savings that can tackle the cold winter that's coming. All days will never be the same. Seasons will change. Interruptions will happen. That is why you must invent how to continue when those interruptions or shake ups happen. Your survival is a priority to God. So, keep saving. Keep investing! Carry out and hide. Carry out again and hide until it flows and run roundabout.

PRAYER: Lord, I lay and pile up embarkment for the future.

YOUR COORDINATES!

Genesis 19:1, KJV

"And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground."

The Bible says, "And there came two angels to Sodom at evening and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom..." Your coordinates is everything.

A lot of people aren't locatable at all. These angels are divine emissaries. They have come to confirm if the evil that has ascended to the Lord of Sodom and Gomorrah is as it has ascended. They could have bypassed everybody. Nobody could have seen them let alone stop them. However, at their appearance/arrival, they came falling into Lot's hands. As if he had a witness concerning them; he didn't lose them at all. Rather, the Bible says, "And Lot seeing them, rose up to meet them..."

You see, Lot is well positioned. He was at the gate. Those divine emissaries didn't pass him by. Even while at the gate, he is both aware and awake. He is sensitive and full of ears around his body. He could discern that these men should be convinced to dwell with him.

In short, what God was sending to Sodom and Gomorrah met him well positioned and ready to receive them. It is this divine perception and welcoming of these divine guests that leads to the saving of his house amidst a corrupt and perverted generation.

The Spirit is asking, "What is your coordinates? Are you at all well positioned? Are you where you should be? Are you hale and hearty spiritually? Do you still have ears and discernment all over your body? Or, you have been shifted or taken away from your position?"

There are those that would have been taken away before such a visitation of God. We read of the first family who at visitation time God couldn't locate. They were nowhere to be found in the presence of God. God had to raise an alarm. He had to begin to call them. Why? They were not locatable because they have sinned and have gone to hide themselves having discovered themselves - in the shame and guilt that sin brought.

Genesis 3:8-9, KJV

"8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?"

Their coordinates ought to be in the presence of the Lord. That's where they ought to dwell and be all the days of their lives. That's where they should have been found. However, they lost their bearings. They couldn't find their coordinates. So, they wandered off. They took off and hid themselves away. This made God begin to beg to have their coordinates. The Lord Almighty begins to call, "Where are you? Let me meet you. Let me see you. Let me know where you are. We have discussions. We need to talk." Imagine that!

A lot of people have absconded from God's presence like Adam and Eve did. God is saying, "The last time we came, they were here. What could now have happened to them? Where are they?" You see, they have lost their coordinates. They are no longer locatable. Heaven can no longer detect them before God. They have lost their bearings. It is disastrous because they won't be able to receive any incoming that God is sending. Just like Adam couldn't welcome God upon His appearance, they also having lost capability to hear or discern God will miss God.

God is looking for people who will take their stands in His presence. Irrespective of what the pursuit of bread becomes, God still doesn't want anything to dislocate them or relocate them away from His presence. God is saying, "I am not done with them. My mercy is given every morning. The words that I speak are very often (Matt.4:4). They ought to be available in my presence, in the spirit and in the Lord to hear/receive it and trap it." Abraham has that testimony. The Bible says, "And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD" (Genesis 18:22).

These were the same divine emissaries that came to inspect and met Lot at the gates. Abraham was standing well established where he could make contact with heaven. That place says, "Though they departed from Abraham, yet Abraham stood yet before the Lord." Why? Business is not over. Abraham knows transactions could still be done. God's presence is where communication is sent and is received. It is where things are influenced or changed in the Spirit. It is the place where you can have a discussion with the Lord to save people alive. That's the place Abraham was when he was bantering that God should spare Sodom and Gomorrah for the righteous people in it.

You must find your coordinates - be at your bus stop. Elijah found his - standing in God's presence undebatably.

I Kings 17:1, KJV

"And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word."

Mind the phrase, "Before whom I stand." The question is, "Before who do you stand?" Are you standing in God's presence or before another god? May you have the testimony of someone who stands before God's presence continually. Elijah couldn't have overblown it more than that. He said, "As the Lord God of Israel lives, before whom I stand."

May you not lose your standing! May you not be found to have departed from the faith - losing your standing because of compromise and sin. May you not concede grounds to the devil. May you maintain your integrity like Job. May you be like Mount Zion that cannot be shifted but abides forever.

PRAYER: Lord, where has my relationship and spiritual standing with you come under attacks. LIBERATE me!

WHEN MERCY EXTENDS ITS ARM TO YOU

Genesis 19:12, KJV

"And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:"

Mercy can call for an extension (extending its arm to you) but the question is, "Will you take it?" I pray for you that you will be hale and hearty spiritually to hear the voice of mercy when it calls. May you not say "no" on the day of salvation.

The divine emissaries that were sent to check for God if what has become of Sodom and Gomorrah was so were accommodated by Lot. They owe Lot and they show their gratitude to him by letting him into what the Lord has set to do.

They told Lot, "Do you have anyone here besides?" They even listed names.  "Son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:"

The matter is urgent. It has to be attended to immediately. As a matter of fact, they had to hurry him up when he began to be reluctant (Gen. 19:16).

When those angels asked if Lot had anyone in town that needed to be saved also; was it that they saw that he had sons in law? I asked because they mentioned specifically, "sons in law." The truth is that they could have judged using the marriageable age/stature of Lot's daughters. Whether that was true or not, God is committed not only to saving you but your household. When God saved Noah, he wasn't the only beneficiary. His family was part. Whenever God moves in this manner, it is to your saving and your household. At times, the salvation of the Lord can cover friends and relatives. Consider Cornelius - the centurion (Acts 10:24, 44-45). It can even include extended family members. Consider Rahab - the harlot (Joshua 6:23).

The sons in law of Lot aren't covenant people. They are Sodom and Gomorrah people. However, their association with Lot is beginning to pay off. They're beginning to reap the dividend of having known Lot and having desired to marry his daughters. As of this time, Lot's two daughters are betrothed to them. So, they are potential sons in law but in truth they are already family because they've formed special closeness and ties with Lot's daughters/family. So, such people can no longer be ignored or left to perdition. That made the angels include them in the plan. "Do you have anybody else here? Son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:"

It was mercy that included them. It was mercy that added them to the list. It was mercy that chose them. Mercy offered them an opportunity to escape destruction of sinners. Mercy gave them an extended arm. However, they treated it with levity and rejected it.

What does the Bible say?

Genesis 19:14, KJV

"And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law."

Did you see that later part? It says, "But was as one that mocked [played, joked] unto his sons in law."

It is on this basis that they reject God's salvation. They are part of God's salvation plan. Because of Lot, God had to count them in. People can be given to you or redeemed for your sake. That happened frequently in the Bible.

I pray for you that mercy will always be extended to you. They actually didn't deserve it but at least, God's mercy still came to patronize them in order to give them an exception. They obviously are not as corrupt as other indigenous people because they have plans to get married [to women - Lot's daughters and not men]. They were heterosexuals (not homosexuals). That shows they are not gays. However, they aren't believers. If they were believers - believing in the God of Abraham or had witnessed His acts for once, they wouldn't have doubted that such a thing could happen. Lot wouldn't have looked like a joker to them. That rather happened because in their thinking, where would destruction come from?

God wants you to cry out to Him this morning that you won't miss the appearance of His mercy. May you not be a mocker and a waster of divine things when they are lowered or made available to you. May you rather jump at it, grasping and grabbing it and using it for your benefit and to God's glory.

As for you, you'll have been gone before the sword and predicted destruction comes. I see you on the mountain. I see you far off - in the distance (separated from the wickedness of the wicked).

PRAYER: Lord, may Your Word not look like rubble to me. May I not lack discernment of times and seasons. I escape to the mountain. I am saved/safe in Christ.

THE HEAD LAMP!

II Kings 8:1, KJV

"Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years."

Predictive prophecy can come to you yourself or to someone with a recognized function in your life in order to give it to you. This woman didn't receive a prophecy from a stranger. She received one from Elisha and as far as we know, they've been in a spiritual relationship for years. If you can't remember right away, this is the Shunem woman who sees Elisha passing, perceives him as a holy man of God and speaks to her husband on bringing Elisha into their home. Later on, they built a place for Elisha and furnished it (II Kings 4:10).

So, this woman is not a stranger to Elisha and Elisha isn't a stranger to her. It was even through Elisha's prophecy that she now carried a son (II Kings 4:16-17). So, she is a beneficiary of the prophetic stream of Elisha. She has tasted his ministry first hand and there's no confusion that Elisha is a holy man of God.

On this occasion however, Elisha is saying a famine is coming and she should flee to sojourn wherever she may find. This is the importance of the head lamp. Do you know what the head lamp does? It sees far into the distance that the tyres will soon come to tread. A driver sees into the distance stretched before him through the aid of the head lamps. Without the head lamps, where to turn or go is usually unclear.

The prophecy of Elisha to her here is coming from a place of relationship and having served as her cover. This woman is enjoying the prophet. Seeds that she has sown even when she never had the heart that it would one day bring her blessings ended up doing more than enough for her. First, she received a child through that and now she's receiving a much needed guidance again.

The prediction says, "Go, thou and thy household. Go and live wherever you may find, for the Lord has called for a famine and it will last for seven years."

We have entered into a time where you have to see it to escape it. Without seeing it, you can't but be trapped. I'll keep saying it. The Bible says, "The prudent man foresees the evil and he hides himself but the simple passes on and are punished" (Prov. 22:3).

Break off from being without guidance and instruction. Either it comes to you through your constant relationship with God or it is complemented by the relationship you have with other brethren or ministers. You must always be in the know of what tomorrow says.

That place says, "...for the Lord hath called for a famine..."

It means it is inevitable. It means it is established by the Lord to happen. That is why she had to pack her bags and leave because danger was coming. May you not be without warning. May you not continue to live without a change of attitude. Those who have no instruction or those who are disobedient to it are those who will be trapped by its consequences. The Bible says, "For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark."

Did you see that? Despite Noah warning them, they didn't change their attitude. They rather kept on in their debauchery. They never had a change of heart. They never were serious. They never were contemplative for once. They never regretted their actions until Noah entered the ark and the flood came. The Bible says, "...until the day that Noah entered the ark." It was that day that heralded consequences. It was only then they saw the harms of having despised warnings. It was then they cried, shouted for salvation without any help being near. You can know too late.

What instruction or warning is coming to you lately? What has the Lord told you lately? Heed warnings. Be guided! Take actions by them. Only then can you escape the imminent dangers.

PRAYER: Father, I am open to whatever you want to communicate. May I not be alone without Words that come from Your mouth.

DIVINE COINCIDENCE!

II Kings 8:5, KJV

"And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life."

Say, "Mine will not be difficult to accomplish!" Say, "Mine happens with ease." Say, "Before arrival, God's angels go ahead of me to make mine possible."

That's exactly how it happened for the Shunemite woman. According to God's Word, she left to sojourn in the land of the Philistines because of a predicted famine. She dwelt in that place for seven years - leaving home, leaving farms.

At the end of seven years, she returned home but things were not the same again. She would need to now appeal to the king for the release of her properties. She was in the process of doing that when she met with divine coincidence. Ask what it is.

Shortly before her arrival, Gehazi had been recounting to the king the great deeds of Elisha as demanded of him. As a matter of fact, they were on her case. Gehazi was telling him about the woman whose child was raised from the dead (II Kings 4:35). That's the story and narration Gehazi was talking about when this woman entered the palace and appealed to the king for the recovery and release of her properties.

II Kings 8:3-4, KJV

"3 And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.

4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done."

How lovely that is? How timely that is? Imagine walking in flesh and blood to concretize what someone pines to hear about you. Nothing like this affirms and serves as convincing evidence. The king not only heard the story, he saw the woman and the child on whom the miracle was wrought. How blessed his eyes are! Gehazi said, "...my Lord O King, this is the woman and her son, whom Elisha restored to life."

To preachers, you will not only preach, tell narratives but rather it'll be backed up by power and evidence. May you have evidence to present. That's when it'll be undeniable. That's when you can convincingly win your hearers to yourself. Even if the king doubted the story of Gehazi before the woman's arrival, her arrival in flesh and blood settles and clears his doubt. Imagine just having the evidence of your ministry walk in where there's doubt, arguments and contention about how effective or great you have worked the calling. This is how God will shut those asking and querying you for the fruits of your ministry up. God will bring an undeniable proof to seal the truth you have said or that you will teach. You will not only be a story teller but an evidence giver. You'll also be able to say, "...this is the woman and her son whom Elisha restored to life."

At this point, doubt is cleared and denial is exterminated. So shall it be!

PRAYER: Father, back me up with proofs. May I not be alone without evidence.

THE COST OF BEING A DESERTER

Acts 15:38, KJV

"But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work."

There are two types of students. The conscious and unconscious learners. The truth is that discipleship is happening on a daily basis and if you apprentice yourself to masters, you'll be able to learn one thing or the other.

That's what they call mentoring or internship as the case may be in our organizations nowadays. If you submit yourself to an internship for instance, it'll be a form of mentoring you and making you into a trained personnel to do certain things.

So also, when Paul and Barnabas travel, they don't go alone. They take other Christian brethren with them to learn, witness and do their works as well.

Acts 15:37, KJV

"And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark."

The Bible says Barnabas was determined to take John Mark with them. For what purpose? To assist them in ministry. However, he'll not only be assisting, he'll be learning. If John Mark had been successfully concluded on, he would have been likened to a student surgeon watching a master surgeon do surgeries in the theatre. He'll not only help the master surgeon pick tools but he'll be learning as an active, conscious apprentice in order to replicate those same procedures one day.

Unfortunately, John Mark missed all these opportunities. On what reason?

Acts 15:38, KJV

"But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work."

Did you see that? John Mark is a deserter. He left them to the work when they needed him. They must have suffered for his sudden deserting. He couldn't pay the sacrifices that goes with the work. Though Barnabas, his uncle was willing to give him another chance, yet Paul has learnt from history and he wouldn't want it to repeat itself.

For this reason, Paul would not have a deserter join them in their missionary journey and work. He protested and this refusal led to a sharp contention between himself and Barnabas.

Brethren, are you a friend who sticks closer than a brother? Do you endure when the road is rough? Do you give your due diligence to the appearing of all? Can others confirm your attitude and behavior as fitting of a brother? If not, you might reap that fruit one day.

John Mark thought he had gotten away with being a deserter until he was refused on the ground of not being able to endure, suffer and persist in the way. What are you reputed for? Hope it's good.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive enduring grace to finish the work I'm called to and the calling entrusted to me.

CONSIDERATE LEADERS

Acts 15:28, KJV

"For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things."

In an interview with one of the heads of state of AES, it is revealed how the state cushions the inflated price of petroleum by paying for it herself so it doesn't lead to increment in prices of goods and services. Then, that head of state noted that they could have chosen not to have done that because they are not an oil producing nation but yet they had to take that step because the happiness of their citizens is at the centre of their agenda.

Yet, there's a contradiction in many other places. Even countries that produce oil and have refineries and plants couldn't survive the rising cost. Instead of absorbing it for their citizens, they have rather spread it over to them. This has led to higher costs of living in groceries, transportation and fuel etc. This obviously has led to the difficult life being experienced in those countries.

These two experiences I just shared have a thing to do with what the apostles did for the church in Antioch. Amidst the doctrinal controversy and confusion on circumcision, they wrote them a letter only demanding that they abstain from things polluted, sacrificed to idols, strangled, or of blood and then from fornication.

In the statement of the apostles, they said it pleased the Holy Ghost and them not to lay any greater burden on the Gentile brethren apart from those petty demands they have made on them in order to keep them pure and distinct from their idolatrous world.

The question is, how many leaders have such hearts not to extort people? They could have pushed things to the extreme. Even as some which are of the sect of the Pharisees amidst the apostles said, they could have been made to observe the laws of Moses - every bit of it. However, Peter defends against that by recalling the impracticality of that to them this way.

Acts 15:10, KJV

"Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?"

Many times, what hypocrite leaders want their followers or citizens to do is what they themselves struggle with. It is what they can't cope with or survive. One will think that'll serve as enough deterrent to hinder their going ahead. However, these hard and difficult leaders instead of relieving their citizens and followers of killing burdens will rather put much on them.

But in the midst of all, I'm hearing another voice that tends to challenge the selfish and hypocrisy demands of the Pharisees that lay heavy burdens on people without lifting it with even their own finger. The voice I hear speaks of good to the benefit of the society and it says reassuringly, "For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things."

If the Holy Ghost struggles with you to stop bothering and extracting your members for financial gains, why isn't it pleasing to you? Why haven't you stopped? As for the apostles, the Holy Spirit's will is their command. First, it seemed good to the Holy Spirit that no extra charges or burdens be laid on the Gentile brethren. Immediately, it pleases the apostles also.

Do we have this type of leaders in our churches and nations? Leaders who want to relieve the burdens of the people. Leaders who want people to have a gracious life under the law of liberty. It is left for you to answer. I pray that what pleases the Holy Ghost to do will also please you to do.

PRAYER: Father, give me a true heart for leadership. A heart that wants to serve sincerely and honestly, not for gains.

MAY YOU NOT BE ALONE!

Acts 15:32, KJV

"And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them."

May you not be alone. More so, may God encourage you. May God give you those who actively hear from the Lord in the now and could speak to you God's mind in the now. That's what a prophet does.

Over the years, I've said a prophet is not only the one who brings predictions. That's the popular manifestation of a prophet that people know but that is not all. A prophet could bring predictions but also, a prophet is an exhorter. I function in that office myself. So, I ought to know.

A prophet is someone with constant revelation on what God wants His people to hear or know. He can bring a word for God's people in the now. That word may come from a teaching that comes to meet their needs. It will be revelational and insightful.

We read of Judas and Silas. The Bible says, "...being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words and confirmed them." I Corinthians 14:3 speaks further on this. A prophet brings edification, exhortation and comfort. He speaks by the Spirit of God. So, these two prophets were not just messengers sent to deliver a letter but vessels who discerned the mind of God and spoke it into the ongoing debate of "Should Gentile believers be circumcised?"

The word, "exhorted" reveals something about what a prophet does. To exhort means to encourage, to strongly urge or persuade. It involves a great deal of stirring up to action. That stirring up also comes with a breathed energia to do what is being taught. As they speak, they strengthen the brethren inwardly.

Then, the Bible says, "With many words..." This is where teaching and repeated teaching comes in. You'll have thought they'll just drop some encouragement and leave. No! They exhorted the brethren with many words. They taught and taught until it got to a place where the Bible says, "...and confirmed them."

The word, "confirmed" means to establish. It's to make to stand firm. That's what strong encouragement or teaching that is done repeatedly birth. The brethren were rooted and grounded after their exhortation. Picture a tree with established roots in the ground, that tree can withstand the storm. The same is what happened here.

That made me pray that you won't be alone earlier. You will have exhorters in your life. And not only exhorters, but those given to teachings that can grind you in faith and establish you.

PRAYER: Lord, I am opened to those You have raised and sent to me. May I by them by exhorted and established.

THE CENTRE SHOULD STILL HOLD

Acts 15:22, KJV

"Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren..."

In Nigeria, there's an organization called Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON). It endorses every product that is rolled out as fit for public consumption or use. Having tested it in its labs, it knows whether the said product is fake or healthy for use. That's the exact thing the Jerusalem council or the congregation of disciples (apostles) in Jerusalem are to the course of Christ - especially on doctrine.

When there arose debates on whether Gentiles (who are now believers) should be circumcised according to Moses and abide by his law, the church in Antioch had to send Paul and Barnabas to the Jerusalem church to go and learn for them which to practice.

Though Paul and Barnabas have tried to persuade them on what is right to practice yet because of its futility because they were being confused, they still needed to find out the truth and hold unto that which is truth.

Acts 15:1-2, KJV

"1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question."

We thank God for the centre that still holds. Unlike some denominations today, it's from the centre they lay heavy burdens hard to bear on people. They strip them of their hard earned money as they endorsed the transactional gospel. However, the apostles beg to differ. Look at their response.

Acts 15:19-20, KJV

"19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."

James means don't burden Gentiles believers with the full Jewish law. They are already accepted by grace. To abstain from pollution of idols means to abstain from idol worship and foods sacrificed to idols. That's because idolatry contradicts loyalty to God. To abstain from fornication is necessary because God requests for our moral transformation. At that time, fornication was common in the Gentile culture. From things strangled means meat from animals not properly drained of blood. From blood means not drinking blood directly or eating it in meat.

They were only commanded to keep all these to keep them distinct from their idolatry world and the prevalent acts in their day. They didn't bind a heavy religious burden on them. Never!

Let's ask ourselves. Is this how our group of elders in the local church does? Is this how our leaders at the headquarters write and send letters to save people far away from the centre from being made slaves of - believing another gospel and being subjugated by unrighteous men? Or is it those at the centre who are trusted with the preservation of doctrine that perverts it for filthy lucre?

We need to check ourselves. As you do, may God wash you clean and set you right. May you stand as a watchman indeed. May you fight for the cause of Christ's sheep which He redeemed with His blood.

PRAYER: Lord, let our watchdogs stand as one indeed.

BRO. SOLA, WHO'S A PASTOR?

BRO. SOLA, WHO'S A PASTOR?

Somebody asked me, "Bro. Sola, who's a pastor?"

I said, "Somebody who can cultivate others."

I thank God for my education - not basically and importantly the one I got in school.

Self education I mean.

I've studied.

There's no day I don't read.

And I don't mean the study of the Bible only.

If I don't have time to read, I'll watch videos - maybe sermons or whatever, listen to news and analysis of global trends or watch movies.

When I watch movies, I analyze, interpret and apply them to real life situations. My study of English Literature has made me an analyst and then an applier. That's why I'm progressing into the niche of global and geopolitical analysis, trends etc.

I hope you're not offended at my watching movies. I'm trained to watch movies and benefit from them. Watching a movie on critical themes and paying attention to lessons in them could mirror and prepare for real life.

For instance, I recently taught on Persecution, Suffering and Signs of the End Time. To complement my studies, I had to watch movies on End Time Crisis and how lawlessness is mirrored.

It's like running a simulation before the real event.

Then, I keep a good record.

I have a lot of diaries (note pads I intend) where I jot things down.

I'm not one of the people who listens to a speaker or reads and don't write things down.

I cultivated that habit before my campus days and mandated it for all the excos that served with me while I was President in TASUED.

I can bet it with you, many might have forgotten them.

A pastor is a cultivator - feeder of people with knowledge and understanding. Where you're ignorant, you'll remain a captive. A pastor frees you by the truth he teaches and the light you receive from that teaching which helps you to live in breakthrough in that area. Check Jeremiah 3:15.

"And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding."

A pastor must be able to PROSPER his congregation in all ramifications of life. The success of a good pastor is seen in the growth of his congregation in every ramifications of their lives. For instance, when someone who's a spendthrift by teaching and counselling becomes a wise spender, now saves, invest and grows wealth; you'll say he has been prospered because he was taught.

Look at III John 1:2, KJV. See the wish, desire and pursuit of a pastor for his congregation.

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

Only a pastor thinks comprehsively about his congregation this way.  When you want people to prosper and be in health in all things, then you teach them on how to prosper and be in health. When they abide by them (not being hearers only but doers of those taught things), then they'll have their breakthroughs and situations turned around.

See the Amplified Version.
"Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as I know your soul prospers [spiritually].”

ESV says, "Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul."

It's a pastor who can furnish or sensitize you to everything that'll require your prospering in all things this way. He doesn't want you to lag behind or lack in anyway. He rather wants all things (make a list of things that concerns you) to go well with you. As a pastor therefore teaches you that, he also teaches you this - so that by them you may wage a good warfare and prosper. A pastor literally fulfills what Paul says here. See:

Acts 20:20 (KJV)
"And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house."

Acts 20:27 (KJV)
"For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God."

He wants you to be robust, all rounded and robustly attended to. He wants every areas of your life to prosper - mental/emotional, financial/economic, family, spiritual etc. Only that "profitable" as used in that Acts 20:20 only defers to spiritual growth or soundness. Yet, it carries the flavour of thoroughness and all roundedness.

I think we need to study certain Greek words in that III John 2. Let's see some good revelation so that you can decipher good pastors from those naming themselves as one.

Key Greek Words Explained

1. “Prosper” - euodoō. It means all these:

- To have a good journey

- To succeed in life’s path

- To be led along a good road

This is the breakdown of that word.

"eu" means good / well

"hodos" is road / way

The literal picture this paints is like somebody waving at you and saying, "May your journey in life go well.” This is NOT just money. It means success in decisions, favor in direction and progress without obstruction. That's what a pastor desires for you as he stands in the pulpit and teaches you.

2. "Be in Health" - hygiainō. It means to be sound, whole, healthy. It is the root of the English word, "hygiene." This is NOT just the absence of sickness but it refers to:

- Physical strength

- Wholeness of body

- Stability of condition

It also implies or means a life that is functioning properly - not breaking down.

3. "Soul" — psychē. It means inner life. It encapsulates your mind, will and emotions. We're referring to your seat of personality. Not just your "spirit" but also:

- Your thinking

- Your desires

- Your emotional state

This is your inner operating system.

4. "Prospers" (Soul prospers). The same word again - euodoō. It means your inner life is on the right path, flourishing.

All together, that verse is really saying, "I pray that your external life (health + success) will match the quality of your internal life (your soul’s alignment and growth)." Imagine that! That's all round prosperity and only one person teaches you to have such all round prosperity - a pastor! That's why you must see your local church as school. Always have writing materials - soaking everything and recording things down for later visitation. If you won't be a mere hearer, then you have to record things down in writing or you buy the tape so that you can revisit them and by them lead a prosperous life.

Why did I say that? Because every instruction you forget cannot prosper you. That's why we have many hearers and not doers. Many look at their faces in the mirror, depart and forget what they look like in a second. Such will never be prosperous because they have refused to take heed and live by the truths that are shared.

That verse sets a divine order:

1. Soul prosperity (INNER LIFE)

2. Physical health

3. External success

Now, let me ask you, "Who do you think can help you achieve all these? Who can you be accountable to - monitoring your progress, helping your discouragements and cheering you to success?" That's what a pastor does. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep by sacrificing for them in these manners that we have explained. He seeks the prosperity of his members. He wishes them well and sees to their progress.

Apart from God, he's the one who has thoughts of good towards you, seeking that you have a hope and a future (by what he teaches you and arms you to do life with) - Jer. 29:11.

So, he could acquire knowledge in all those areas of life or know something about them.

For short, he is a body of knowledge - a library or bank of information in one person. He must be able to diagnose and apply truth to your situation. Without consciously taking thought for how to do this every time, the Holy Spirit will lead him into the discovery of what is utmost that his congregation needs to hear, know or take action by. God will often give him teachings towards those areas. He could then complement that/those inspired teaching(s) with what he has gathered during his personal education and from his experiences.

He must be able to arm them with truths that are doable as he communicates spirit and life (John 6:63) while bringing in practical, life, historical and day to day events to supplement it etc.

That's why the office of a pastor is not usually alone. To a very good extent, every pastor is a teacher. He will be able to preach/teach. As a matter of fact, Ephesians 4 that talks about ministry offices or what we popularly call 5 fold offices in truth are 4. Let's see.

Ephesians 4:11, KJV

" And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers..."

Note this, "...and some, pastors and teachers."

They are together - intertwined though distinct rivers. They go hand in hand. They flow to meet into one. It is pastor and teacher. A pastor must be able to teach.

Let me say if you're serious with ministry or have your eyes on ministry (probably you're desiring the office of a bishop), you must give yourself to study and knowledge.

Because by it, your congregation will prosper.

Most of the educated people on earth are ministers - pastors especially. That's because they minister and pastor men from all walks of life, backgrounds, professions and education. Yet, they are relevant to their experiences and expectations when they teach or talk.

Imagine having a congregation of a hundred men yet when you speak, you meet their needs always. Yet, they aren't of one background, tribe, nationality, view, training or prejudice etc.

Imagine how difficult that should have been!

However, what makes them (those pastors) that relatable and important? The things we've been saying. The fact that they have or can teach what every human needs or is looking for.

At times, I wonder where all the things I know and have learnt would find application.

But what matters is to be faithful where one is.

Wider opportunities will come.

RATHER FURNISHING

Acts 18:26, KJV

"And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly."

If you saw the first issue in this untitled series, you'll see we talked about not binding heavy religious burdens or yokes on people especially when God, the bishop of their souls doesn't make that demand on them.

We saw that in Acts 15 where certain brethren from Judea taught that the Gentiles (who are now born again like they are) must be circumcised (cut in the flesh - foreskin) like they (Jews) have been cut before their born again experience. However, God made a nonsense of this. Circumcision was never part of God's prerequisites to being born again. Rather it is belief in the resurrection of Jesus' Christ (Rom. 10:9).

It is on this premise that I prayed that you will not be a stumbling block to young converts. Through you, people will not fall, become confused or bothered by irrelevances that God Himself doesn't list as acceptable for salvation. Instead of being a stumbling block to convert - standing on their way to salvation and free grace, you'll rather be a teacher and discipler of converts, instructing them in the perfect way of God.

And that's what happens in today's issue. Let's read about the man called Apollos that certain beloved couple take unto themselves to teach the way of the Lord more perfectly.

Acts 18:24-26, KJV

"24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly."

Despite the giftedness of Apollos, he is still lacking in something. Guess what? He only knows the baptism of John. The baptism of John only emphasizes repentance because a greater than John was coming. However, what about when that greater than John had arrived? Since Jesus has arrived and has been experienced (has even died and ressurected at this time), the message in the mouth of Apollos should be the full message of Christ, especially the completed works of Christ.

That should be the message. On this note, this couple took him aside (that is privately not publicly) and expounded to him the way of God more perfectly.

They didn't disgrace him. They didn't correct him in the crowd. They took him unto themselves (as if he were their own child) and taught him by explaining God's way more perfectly to him.

Isn't this a blessing? Isn't this a blessed act against the one we read of in Acts 15 where certain men from Judea and certain of the disciples - of the Pharisee background canvass for the circumcision of the Gentiles? While one set of people was binding a heavy yoke on the neck of the people, one was instructing them perfectly in the way of the Lord. So, the question is, "Which will you be? Where will you belong?"

Will you be amidst the believers who becomes a stumbling block to the young ones or fall amidst those who help the young ones to discover and learn Christ better. May it not be said of you that you who should be a teacher of the perfect things of God is now the one leading others into imperfections. May you be like this couple who expounds the perfect things of God to Apollos. May you be a discipler of babes in the things of God.

PRAYER: Lord, may I not be used of the devil to bring saints into captivity. Rather, may I open their sights to their precious inheritance in Christ.

DO YOU HAVE PEOPLE ABROAD?

SEE THIS WISDOM!

Let me say this.

I've seen some people abroad lamented on how their people back home wanted to suck them dry.

I think there's a bad mentality that we have to correct.

That mentality is that ABROAD is always Green land.

It is this mentality that's making droves of Africans take illegal means to escape Africa for Europe.

You must have watched international news and heard of Africans that disguised themselves as sheep, Arab women or those who hid near a ship's rudder to escape abroad.

Countless stories of risks like these abound. Many have died and have fallen victims of several abuses through this route only.

It is this same mindset that's making family members at home believe that once they can send one of them abroad, the family will become well off.

That's not always the case.

That the family will be well off is still hinged on some other factors after that.

But irrespective, let people at home stop being latchers and suckers.

I am not saying your sibling, relative or friend abroad can't help you but mind how you relate with them and ask for help.

Don't be a frequent at their door.

I'll rather that you don't even ask at all.

Show yourself a worthy man. Prove your worth.

Apply yourself to hard work here in Naija. If that person abroad sees how you carry yourself - your determination, hard work, discipline and the fact that you're not like others, I assure you that he might likely invest in you and take a better liking to you.

This is even of more importance to those that their family member who's abroad is their younger brother or sister.

Now, how should you relate with your younger sibling that's abroad ?

Even if he has the money indeed, don't become a beggar to him. Don't put yourself under him by putting all of your family challenges and responsibilities on him. Disallow your wife from calling him frequently especially to notify him of your needs.

Whenever your kids speak with him or her, tell them not to pester them for things.

Stop forcing the hands of such people by telling your kids to ask things from them.

That's nonsense. In a more blatant way, that's bullshit. And it is.

Rather, conduct yourself very well.

Relate with him very well without offence. Let your family do the same. Rejoice and mourn with them as their situations might call for. Don't envy him. Pray for him. Share lessons from the Bible and life's experiences with him. Tell him to invest his money and secure his future.

Money flies as time does.

Let him or her see that my big brother loves me and sees to my welfare.

Let him be the one to ask you (as a responsible person that he is) what you would need or how he could help you.

That's more dignifying!

I don't think anything of your life is hidden from him or her since you have good relationship together. So, if you're struggling and you've only been enduring, he'll know.

And if your help doesn't or couldn't come from someone as close to you as that (until you ask and pester him), then let it be.

God might need to find you another vessel.

That is if you're the elder here and he is the younger.

If you're the younger asking from your elders, they know how to tell you you're becoming irresponsible without constraint or sounding disrespectful.

Follow that rule!

Especially if he's married, if you don't master this wisdom (when you're the older), the wife might see you as her rival and sooner or later, you won't like it.

Position yourself for things to be done to you in honour therefore.

While a lot of people are busy raving for money to eat from these people, someone who doesn't come often might win the favour of being invested in because he or she would have been seen in the light of being able to handle long term investment.

This address also goes to parents.

You're not wrong desiring returns from your children.

However, learn to have them breathe.

Why did I say this?

I learnt of a case where a man in one particular church was demanding thousands of pounds from his son for the celebration of a chieftain title in the church.

At day's end, the son sent nothing but rather spoke and convinced the father out of it in humility.

It was like wanting to rip someone off despite the untold hardship they pass through before making that money.

You think money grows on trees when you are abroad right?

You're joking!

It takes hard work. At times, it takes taking a humbling job with odd working hours.

Because of all these, let us be fair and responsible.

Be someone that they do things for out of honour.

Let your son/daughter look at you and say, "Daddy deserves to be celebrated on this birthday."

Let all of us quickly discern and live in the light of this truth.

MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

THOSE WHO BIND HEAVY BURDENS ON YOU

Acts 15:10, KJV

"Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?"

May you not find yourself in this category - where you're the one binding heavy burdens on people when you should be advocating for their liberty. Unfortunately that is bound to happen when you refuse to operate under grace but under the law. When you have refused to be set at total liberty indeed, you might want other people to be as you are in the flesh before it can be said that their salvation is guaranteed.

Peter questions that mindset here even as some Jews, especially those of the Pharisees' sect are saying that the non-Jewish believers (Gentiles) must be circumcised before they could be saved or counted as part of Christ's body.

In replying, Peter says, "Why do you tempt God?" That means why are they opposing God. Before this time in Acts 10, the Gentiles had gotten born again through the gospel of Peter in Cornelius' house. God didn't discriminate against them. He poured the Holy Spirit on them like He poured on the Jews. They were born again like the Jews. God for once didn't require that they become Jews in the flesh first of all by been circumcised before they'll be born again or receive the Holy Ghost. So, in essence Peter was saying, "Why are you testing and opposing God's decision?" That's the meaning of that expression of Peter. He said that because he saw what God had already settled and set in motion as per the salvation of the Gentiles without asking for "prerequisites" are being fundamentally criticized and made nothing of. In essence, those fighting Jews would have the Gentiles get circumcised in the flesh as did Abraham and his downlines.

But Peter is saying, "That's over with" because God Himself is done with it. If He wanted it, He would have asked for it from the Gentiles before pouring the Holy Ghost on them.

Then Peter says, "...to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear."

Did you see that? By insisting that the Gentiles be circumcised , those born again Jews are actually putting a yoke on the Gentiles. A yoke is a burden or a weight. It can slow down and press on the bearer. That's the kind of suffering they are submitting them to. The yoke is the heavy burdens of Jewish law (rules, rituals, ceremonies). So, in essence, Peter was saying, "Why are you placing heavy religious burdens on these new believers?"

Unfortunately, their fathers and they stumbled under it. Even they, they could not perfectly keep the law. How many times have we made what grace did for us a matter of rites, rituals, ceremonies and legalistic acts that must be observed?

Salvation doesn't hinge on circumcision or rites that any man chooses to perform to God. He can do nothing to gain God's favour if he refuses to accept what God has done. It rather centers on accepting the finished works of Christ. The Gentiles believed and they were saved. If you too are, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9, KJV

"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."

This is all you have to do and believe in and you shall be saved. You don't need to make payment anywhere. You don't need to sleep with anyone or be anybody's slave before you can be saved. Do you believe in Jesus' death and resurrection? If you do, confess Him as Lord with that firm belief in your heart and you'll immediately be His.

PRAYER: Lord, may I not be the stumbling block on someone's path to salvation. Help me rather to take people and teach them the right way correctly.

MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

HAPPY EASTER!!!

YET WITHIN THREE DAYS!

Genesis 40:13, KJV

"Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler."

There are things that happen within a number of days. This event of the butler being restored back to his office is one. Joseph says, "Yet within three days, shall Pharaoh lift thy head and restore thee unto place..."

Did you catch any significance in that? Did you catch any feeling of predictiveness in that? "Yet within three days..."

It means what will happen will happen within three days. Time was measured and slated for it. Expectation and hope can therefore be aroused having something tangible to latch unto. "Yet within three days..."

Are there people reading this that the Lord's Word is also coming through saying, 'Yet within three days..."

When time is designated for something, you not only have prophecy at hand, you know when to expect till. "Yet within three days..." is the fence that surrounds what will happen to the butler and within three days as we read, Pharaoh lifted up his head and restored him to his office, to deliver the cup into his hands.

Genesis 40:20-21, KJV

"20 And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants...

21 And he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand."

It happened within the specified three days, specifically delivered on the third. This is your third day too, I ask for you, "Be restored!" What have you lost that should be taken back? Let it happen on this third day. The Bible speaking of Jesus says, "Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption" (Acts 2:27, KJV).

He escaped corruption (the general fate of humanity) which is to die, decay and become decomposed by the earth. Rather, He rose. God didn't allow His Holy One to see corruption like David (an example of a mortal man) saw.

Acts 13:36-37, KJV

"36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption."

God sovereignly prevented Jesus from seeing corruption. That's because His Spirit raised Jesus from the dead (Rom. 8:11). And guess when it happened. It happened on the third day. That was not an accident. The third day was even prophesied by Jesus Himself and He didn't miss that slated time. Jesus was crucified on Friday (traditionally called Good Friday). He was placed on the tomb before sundown on the same day. On Saturday, he stayed in the tomb in silence - an act that actually testifies to the fact that He died indeed. Meanwhile, it's also at this time that He went and preached unto the spirits in prison though it wasn't visible to any human eyes (I Peter 3:19). This invisible workings that is a pause/silence to us is truly symbolic of the fact that all is finished and that every strivings are ended. However on the third day, Jesus rises from the dead. His tomb was found empty. He therefore fulfills the scriptures, "On the third day He will raise us up" (Hosea 6:2). Just like Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights, so Jesus fulfilled and resurrected on the third day (Jonah 1:17, Matthew 12:40).

On the third day it was accomplished just like He Himself said, comparing Himself to Jonah who was three days and nights in the fish's belly. Today, every Word of God that has been tried till now in your life is coming to pass. This is the third day. Death couldn't hold Him captive. Nothing therefore shall be able to hold you captive. "For death couldn't holden Him down" - therefore you cannot be incapacitated. You will rather fulfill your prophecy and fulfill your destiny. So shall it be. Happy Easter!

PRAYER: Thank God for Jesus' death and all privileges availed us through His death and resurrection.
