HANDS ON!

Proverbs 31:19, KJV

"She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff."

If the verse above was to be written for a driver, a cook and a trader, it'll all look like these respectively.

"He sets his hands upon the steering wheel and his grip holds firm to the gear. His eyes read the road like a scroll, discerning every bend and brake. With steady feet on the pedals, he guides his passengers safely and no recklessness finds lodging in his lane."

"She lays her hands upon the chopping board and her fingers dance with the knife. Her pot receives her wisdom and the pan listens for her timing. For short, she seasons with correct measures."

"She stretches her hands to the scale and her fingers weigh with honesty. Her voice calls customers with grace and her eyes study the market's tide. She bargains with prudence and keeps her ledger without deceit."

When the Bible says of the Proverbs 31 woman that "she lays her hands on the spindle and her hands hold the distaff", we're immediately launched into the psyche of a profession that uses the spindle and distaff which is traditional spinning or weaving. A spinner (often a woman in ancient and rural societies) uses:

Distaff: a staff that holds unspun fibers like wool, flax or cotton.

Spindle: a rod used to twist those fibers into thread or yarn.

So, the profession is spinning (thread-making) which is part of weaving, textile work and cloth-making.

In biblical and historical contexts, the person is simply called a spinner or a woman who spins thread and that's what this virtuous woman is. As she does that, she contributes both to the nation's economy and her family needs.

The idea of laying one's hands to the spindle and the hands holding the distaff reveals a workman who patronizes her work always. She is glued and given to it. It's like calling to her. She nourishes and waters it by giving it her presence. So, that business flourishes. She is at all not far away from what she practices. So, the Bible rightly describes her by saying, "she lays her hands to the spindle and her hands hold the distaff." Meaning, she grabs the tools and instruments of her profession and puts them to work. The idea of "laying" and "holding" reveals that for the most part, she diligently has her hands and fingers working with these tools. She has become 5 and 6 with them. This therefore portrays the dignity of labour, grip and engagement. That verse will mean grabbing and reaching for her instruments of work and readying oneself for work.

Work will not do itself. If you do not reach out your hands to lay and grab the instruments of your trade, vocation or profession, you won't just have ready made goods appear nor food on your table. All things are made possible by engagement. Little by little, the bird builds its nest. Little by little, your progress will accumulate and be revealed to everyone. Today's Bible verse portrays, "reaching out and dying there." It reveals a persistent hard worker given to the skills of her youth and the employing of it for all benefits as fitting human dignity.

Can it be said of you irrespective of your profession that when you check out of your house you have gone to lay hands on your own 'spindle' and hold your own 'distaff?' Or at the place of work, you're still known for unseriousness, non-challance and procrastination.

All those demons didn't find a place in the life of this woman. She has bound them by the righteous activity she is seriously committed to. The Bible in describing her seriousness, commitment and busyness to her profession and work could only say, "she lays her hands to the spindle and her hands hold the distaff." What imagery is being portrayed? Of engagement!

May you not be caught reaching out for a bottle of drink and grabbing a plate of meal when your hands should be firmly located on what can give you livelihood. May misplace priority not master, distract and eventually divert you away. When your hands should be firmly established on your work or business, may you not have gone spreading a chain of gossip and pushing false information around your market. May you not have gone after the chasing of those who sap kings of their strength at this morning of your life. May you rather be in-depthly engaged, given and poured out to your way of life, choice of work and life's activity. May you give yourself away like Samuel who was given away to the Lord. This way, they put his hands on the spindle and distaff of his call - his holy work. He could only spend his days there. May you be this steeped in what you have found to do so that you will have no room for what doesn't profit you but ministers arguments and questions. May this verse below not chronicle your life as one of misplaced priority.

Ecclesiastes 10:16, KJV

"Woe to thee, O land, when thy king is a child, and thy princes eat in the morning!"

May your hands and concentration be given to your life's calling and work! Go and do so!

PRAYER: Lord, I receive concentration. I banish distraction and every temptation not to be focused. My hands are strongly fit and engaged with my work.

FOR THE SAKE OF WORK: BECOMING A SEEKER OF WOOL

Proverbs 31:13, KJV

"She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands."

May you see the joy in work and applying yourself to work. That place says, "she seeks wool and flax", fibres used for making linen and fine cloth. The fact that she seeks them shows her interest in engaging work. "She seeks" also passes the idea of something not easily available or situated, but all the same, she applies herself to work and seeks to have them for the sake of becoming a manufacturer of goods. This woman seeks because of the end goal.

In seeking, effort was given, time was spent and even some resources might have been given up. But she sought! In seeking, she had to learn bargaining and the art of trading/relating with those who sell these materials. She learnt confidence and the importance of relationships. Why would anyone go through such rigorosity if she hasn't known the dignity of labour and the taking hold with one's hands? She knows that a man who takes hold with her hand cannot but be respected and given her flowers. She knows that she will be able to raise her shoulders high and be proud of contributing to the economy.

"...and works willingly with her hands."

This part of the verse concludes our study. I guess it's because of the willingness she possesses that makes her apply herself to seeking wool and flax in the first place. There are those being forced to work. They've become comfortable with being helped, assisted or given hand-outs. To get out of this deadly comfort zone and work therefore takes the preaching of a sermon. However, not this woman. The Bible says, she works willingly with her hands. That is, she has had a personal revelation of work and what it does to the human body and esteem. She works because she wants to work. She works for the personal joy and satisfaction it brings.

It wasn't her husband who said as a matter of fact, she must find something to do. Hers was a purposeful work and well directed vision. It was inborn and not induced by anyone or circumstances.

Is this who you are? Do you want to work? Does working give you joy? Do you really want to have the delight of being found in kings' palaces? Then, you cannot wish away taking hold with your hands. We saw this of the spider yesterday and how it benefited her. For those who'll take hold with their hands, for those who'll hold their tools and grab their instruments, then you can't but see the miracle of taking hold with your hands. It's that, your work, career or calling will take you to great places.

In all labour, there's always a promised reward. Yours is here.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the understanding and initiative to launch and stay on what I should do. I shall not do the wrong work but one suited for my being and pleasing for rewards.

THE MIRACLE OF TAKING HOLD WITH YOUR HANDS

Proverbs 30:28, KJV

"The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces."

Nobody can box you! Nobody can put a lid on you! Yes, just nobody if you'll borrow wisdom and strategy from the spider. You may be small and insignificant like her but your daily work and activities when accumulated together can bring you the needed glory and attention.

What many people are begging for or willing to pay their way for in order to secure access, you can actually have it if you're diligent enough to take hold with your hands. Over the years, I have met beggars on my journey. They beg for every favour and by this diminish themselves before those who should esteem them as equals or carve for them their own space and respect. They sold themselves out so cheaply because they were thinking of themselves as not being able. For short, they felt they were incapacitated. So, the climbing they could have done by hard work was substituted for convenience. They thought great things happened on a platter of gold. They have cheap recognition which at day's end leads to loss of respect before whom they should have earned it.

To prevent this, God is coming with the wisdom of the spider to us this morning. If you're diligent, if you're a hard worker, if you're strategic, clinging to your vision in commitment, you will one day sit with those you once envy. They'll give you the honour you deserve, the one you fought your way for and not the one they cheaply conferred on you. That's why you must wait and not rush. What others are taking a short cut for but to lose in days to come, you must take the highway to have the same. Even Jesus, a space was not made for Him amidst the great and strong until He had sacrificed Himself for us.

Isaiah 53:12, KJV

"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

He had to first apply Himself to the job before all the voices came to say, "well-done" - rewarding Him with a name that's greater than any other.

The spider is an insect or animal of no reputation but one way or the other, it eventually finds itself in kings' palaces - honourable places that no mean man just secures. How did she do it? The Bible says, "the spider takes hold with her hands..."

Just by taking hold - by spurning thread upon thread, by keeping at its work, by labouring diligently and quietly, it got the opportunity it deserves to make it eventually to the king's palace one day. Does that not confirm another portion of the Bible that says, "the gift of a man makes a way for him and sets him before great people?" (Prov. 18:16).

Only that, it is the taking hold with one's hand, that is, being skillful and working diligently with one's hands and initiative that brought the spider this promotion.

Other animals like the lizards are intruders. Lizards would enter the king's palace without having applied herself to any hard work. It'll do just through the backdoors of cracks in the wall. However, not the spider. He begs to differ. It is rather the works of his hands that takes him to places. The spider here has the characteristics of David when he was found to stand and minister before Saul.

I Samuel 16:18, KJV

"Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him."

Irrespective of your background, race, status or gender, our world and guiding laws in it are responsive to this thing - a man who can take hold with his hands. A man of skill, the world will in no wise cast away.

You don't have to pray before you achieve some certain greatness as this verse tells us. When you act some way, you'll naturally reap the consequences of having acted that same way.

The Bible says, "the spider takes hold with her hands..." And just because of that, the next part says, "and is in kings' palaces." That is, "is found there." Not by luck or wishes but by self application and pressing.

How many of you have watched the spider at work before? I haven't seen a better weaver than it. It does its work without arousing the dust. It applies itself to it without caring who watches or urges him on. The spider is a persevering and consistent fellow. It has overcome criticisms to not being deterred from its goals even when we destroy its webs. And as she spurns threads and threads upon threads, she enables herself to connect and have better mobility. As she does this, before you know it, her reach would have gotten to the distance unimaginable. By the time you turn your TV to watch the news, you'll just hear it is now in the kings' palaces. Then the great question, "how did she make it there?"

Why would anyone ask "how" now? Didn't we see her when she was labouring and applying herself to work, day and night? Should it now be surprising that her hardwork has eventually paid off and sent her to great places, amidst the great and strong?

I really don't like humans when they sarcastically ask such questions. In Romans 8:26, the Bible says, "Likewise, the Spirit also helps our infirmities..." The key word is "help" from the Greek Word that means, "to take hold together with someone, to take hold on the opposite side or to jointly lift a burden." That's another place where the idea of "taking hold" is portrayed in the Bible though we have other references like this one below.

Proverbs 31:13, KJV

"She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands."

Why these two connect is because they emphasize grip, support, enablement, hard work, involvement, engagement and persistence.

If you'll take hold with your hands, only God knows how far you'll go. The spiders took hold in all diligence and before we all know it, it has spurned webs to access kings' palaces. What you do and what you're known for can bring you exaltation and bring you before great people.

So, take hold with your hands.

PRAYER: I receive renewed energy, consistency and an unbreakable spirit. I will persist until the sunrise.

MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

ONE IN BILLIONS!

Psalms 147:4, KJV

"He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names."

This is a personal knowing and it is one of the wonders that makes the Lord who He is. He tells the number of the stars in their multitudes and then He calls each of them by names. Forgetfulness didn't bash him and confusion didn't bug him.

If you're a teacher of many students, you'll agree it's often difficult calling all your students by name. We've heard cases where over a hundred students are in some public schools. In such a situation, the teacher might not have personal knowledge and information on each individual. That's the problem that confronts the limitedness of the human mind.

Meanwhile, if it were God, He is at all not bugged. He is not intimidated by the much computing of information. That's why a verse like we just read says, "He not only knows the stars but He also calls them by names."

Personal knowledge!

God has a personal knowledge of each one of us too. He knows us to the barest minimum possible. He created us and He has data on all of us. As we walk to and fro on the surface of the earth, we shouldn't think we're unseen and can't be related. God is the greatest bird or drone who has every detail on our lives even as we create new ones.

God while speaking in the book of Jeremiah says, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

This is personal knowledge. He knows us! Meanwhile, it's not only Jeremiah God knows this way. He knows you too. He tells the number of stars and also calls them by names. God has even ordained what you should be in your calling and what destiny you're curated for. You only need to find out and fulfill them.

This however shows God's overwhelming care and recognition of the beings He has created. God is our arch parent. He doesn't bring forth to forget. He doesn't bring forth to neglect. He doesn't bring forth to jeopardize. He knows us. He has us!

Are you worried? Do you think yourself as insignificant? Are you being called worthless? Are you categorized as a non entity? God got you covered. Speaking of the sparrows, Jesus Himself says in Luke 12:6-7,"Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows."

If God stretches to account for the hairs of our heads - one of the minute and insignificant part of we humans, what proof do we need again to ascertain if there's one with an unflinching love and care for us? Do you give recognition to what you take no interest in to the extent of learning its details? Yet God does that. He sure has interest in us.

Sparrows are very very worthless birds in Jesus' time. They are so inexpensive and worthless that five are sold for a farthing. Imagine that! Imagine selling something for five for #5. How cheap and worthless will that thing be in the Nigeria of today? Yet, our Bible verse says, "not one of them will fall to the ground without God knowing about it." God has self and conscious knowledge over His creations. If He does over ordinary birds that are so treated as worthless by humans, what about you? He says you're far more precious and worth more than they are. Will something just befall you without God taking notice?

You're this great before God. You're a very acknowledged entity. You're continually before Him. Know this and stop the anxiety, fretting, worries and doubts. He knows you by name amidst the billions on earth. Your data is just in His box and that of course places premium on you. That's why the Psalmist can say, "my times are in God's hand" (Psalm 31:15). It's because He knows God is the One watching over His portion in this life. Knowing that, these verses can't but come to pass over him and you yourself.

Psalms 16:5-6, KJV

"5 The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. 6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage."

Since God keeps your data this way, be sure He'll use it all to administer things for your good. No better shepherd and carer than He. Believe! Your times are in His hands. He maintains, governs and administers what befalls you.

PRAYER: Thank you my overarching parent. I stiff all worries and fears to receive in faith and assurance from You. You're the sailor and I'm guaranteed of safe destination.

LORD, BY WHOSE HAND HAVE YOU ORDAINED TO DELIVER OUR SALVATION?

LORD, BY WHOSE HAND HAVE YOU ORDAINED TO DELIVER OUR SALVATION?

WE really need to ask ourselves this question. We need to ask in deep longing and prayer saying, "Lord, in whose hand have you kept our salvation? By whose hand have you ordained that something should happen for us?"

If you have no answer, you'll be stranded. If you cannot find he or those in whose hands your salvation is left of God, you cannot flower. You'll be alone like a corn of wheat that unless it falls to the ground doesn't bring forth let alone multiply.

Therefore, we must trust, pray and hope that at every time of need, God will appear and project to us men in whose hands he has kept what we desperately need which can only be fittingly described as our salvation or breakthrough for that time being. Without this, man made in God's image will suffer!

Jesus would have been embarrassed successfully if He didn't know in whose hands God kept His salvation. They came, bearing tales about tax. They asked Peter, "Doesn't your own master pay tax." As to give no room for offence, Jesus as One with revelation immediately instructs Peter to go, cast the hook and pay with the coin that he'll fetch from the fish's mouth.

Matthew 17:27, KJV

"Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee."

Jesus knew where his salvation was to come from. He could see the sea. He could see the fish. He so knew which fish held His help that he specified it would be the first fish Peter would pick up. Therefore, every beating around the bush was eliminated. When you know by whose hand God has ordained your salvation/provision, you'll stop every guess work. You'll walk facing front, going straightforward to where God has ordained. You'll mind your business and let alone what you've not been commanded about.

You can then go like a programmed bot and make demands that don't make sense at times. You can then say to the commanded person, "bring me the morsel of bread in your hand" without feeling guilty, ashamed or beggarly (I Kings 17:11).

It'll look like you're casting or binding people with a spell yet you're only professing God's Word to you to them.

It would look like play but it'll be effective because you have marked He who you are sent to.

At this time, this particular need of Jesus was not to come from any human being. It was not to come from Lazarus, Mary, Martha or any human for that matter.

To the glory of God who's never stranded and can never be stranded, it was held for the time being in the mouth of a fish - hidden and well banked until He who owned it asked for it. Has God not spoken that He will speak for your sake also?

Hosea 2:21-22, KJV

"21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; 22 And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel."

Your salvation is quartered somewhere. Jesus' was sheltered in the fish's mouth. Who would have believed that?

This is why ministers and Christians must trust God for provision and their salvation per time. Your ministration will not always be given and custodied with a particular individual at all times. God has sons and daughters everywhere. He has people everywhere. He has vessels, instruments, agents and willing and obedient men everywhere to use. God could have used A yesterday but He sure can move to Z for your next need. No one man can hold God to ransom. It is God who chooses which instrument He wants to use. Anyone who knows understands what honour it is to be used or demanded from by God.

The God who used the ravens and the brook today for Elijah soon moved to the widow of Zarephath another day, after the brook had dried.

He used the raven for Elijah. For Jesus, it was a fish. For Balaam, it was a donkey that aided him. What can God not use to bring a man's need for the moment to him? Where can God not leverage? Who can God not command? Who can God not collect from to give to you if it's that critical and important?

Research has found that ravens are very resourceful birds who cache foods for the future. But when God issued His commands to them, they immediately released what they had saved up and planned for use in the future to Elijah. Somebody might have been keeping a savings in one hole from January that you're the one God will instruct they give it to. The contribution might have been monthly but at the end of the day if God sees your needs, He can instruct this disciple that his or her own needs will be met some other way by Him and that he/she should release his present resource to you.

God will tell him/her, "criticality is on the scene. It's a matter of importance and pressing needs. Release it now son/daughter." And immediately, it'll be released into your lap: good measure, shaken together, running over that somebody had secretly rejoiced over and planned to send on one errand or the other.

But such a person that such type of instruction will go to must be someone with ears to hear God. To such, God will also do much more.

Shocking the ravens parted with their most cherished bread for Elijah? Who binds them with a spell? Is this how effective God's Word is once spoken?

Aaah!

People, you must meet your men. At this time, I'm hearing God's Word. I'm hearing what God said He would do. He's saying, "Things shall hear you! You'll command their hearing and they shall be given to you just like we read earlier from Hosea."

Brethren, have you settled the matter of who you can collect from? They can't be everybody. God won't use every person for you. He won't send all men to you. He however has certain men in reserve for you. What He does is to give you your own men as your own allocation. What He does is to send you a certain sum that'll be in agreement with you. You cannot have the ears of all men but you can have yours. They'll be your reserve or go to persons.

God speaking to Gideon brought up the need for his men to him. God looks on Gideon and sees a man seeking to fight the Lord's battle with his own scheme and wisdom. He has called and they have answered. However, these are nothing but a mixed multitude. They must be purged, divorced of every harm and sieved to solidly remain God's right men. Therefore, God called for a test. He puts them to a test.

Please, don't fear to lose men. Don't fear to lose church members. Don't fear to lose fake friends. God is actually preparing yours for you in the process. You might have gathered or brought them by your friendliness or mistake. You might have gathered them by your strength and it may be painful that the stones you have gathered are now being scattered. However, this scattering is to your advantage. That's because God is only trying to keep with you your 300 men. When Gideon's men were reduced to 300, it looked disappointing. Disillusionment might have filled the horizon but God has a point to drive home.

God made His point when He said...

Judges 7:7, KJV

"...by the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place."

Imagine that - "By the 300 men that lapped will I save you..."

Affirmative! Of a surety!

God has declared what He would do. God has guaranteed him salvation and victory even before the battle. It takes an attentive ear to hear what God was saying there.

He was actually swearing by Himself when He said, "By the 300 men that lapped will I save you."

We too must ask and pray saying, "Lord, by what men and by whose hand have you planned to save me?"

Is it even through my own child?

Salvation is of the Lord and He gives it to whom He wants. But there's a way it is wrought. Salvation (deliverance) doesn't just fall. It has to be caused by the doings of men but who are the men? Who are those men who'll become your men in all loyalty and obedience?

Who are the choice men? Who are the appointed men? For Gideon, God trimmed down his men in order to give him men. God divorced him of fake people. He divorced him of those without Christlikeness. He purged him of those who could have claimed glory with their bow and swords. He only reserved for him silent labourers on whom God's strength was made perfect. He gave him disciples. He gave him those who will obey in fear and trembling. He gave him his men - those he could have least regarded but that God highly esteemed.

He gave him only 300 men and vowed that by their hands He'll give him salvation.

"Lord, who have you ordained and in whose hands have you chosen to save me? Who's harbouring my salvation? Who has the cure for my needs? Who's to meet this peaked need? Who's to give himself for this? Who have you called to do ministry with me? Where are my ministry financiers who have their own part to play? Who have you raised for us?"

Look, God has not left us without a witness. He is not a wicked God. He has our provision at hand. It is somewhere that you have to discern. It is with someone that we must mark.

Lamech speaking after identifying through whom God will bring them comfort concerning the works of their hands says:

Genesis 5:28-29, KJV

"28 And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:

29 And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed."

That's having a heart and eyes for he with your remedy. Despite Noah just being a baby, yet Lamech, his father could see what destiny he is carrying and that he'll be their salvation and respite someday.

You must see with whom God has hidden your salvation or deliverance?

One time in Jesus' ministry when he desired to meet the physical needs of the people, it was a young boy's meal that God used to save the day. Thousands ate!

John 6:5-10, KJV

"5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, saith unto him,

9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.

12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost."

Have you discerned who holds the key to your locked gates? Have you seen he in whom the Lord hid your need? Don't say he or she isn't significant. Don't question, "what can he accomplish amidst the multitude of needs on ground?" Don't despise the widow of Zarephath if she's the commanded widow but yet doesn't look commanded. Don't say, he is just a lad! That's what David was when God used him to save Israel from a national disgrace. If he's the one like Andrew rightly sees when he says, "there's a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes...", please, receive him. Welcome him! Be open to him. Let him give his ministry and ministration. Let him contribute to the body of Christ.

Don't mind what the media might say. If it were today, the headline would read, "A Popular Evangelist Entertained His Guests With A Fella's Lunch."

But that boy was well tutored. He was there to save the day. As a matter of fact, that's why he hadn't eaten his food. There'll always be a way of escape. God will create it.

This is a critical issue that we can't trivialize. If you do, you're toiling with your cure, salvation and the remedy God may want to apply to you handily.

You must not miss "this God's help."

"Lord, in whose hand have you chosen to save me? I open and receive such. No pride! No rejection of same! Just openness!

Is it a small child? Is it a Moses, Joseph, Deborah, Esther or Jesus? Is it even a certain boy with five loaves of bread and two fishes? You might have hidden our salvation in a woman or a child, open our eyes and give us humility to collect what they're bringing. Who have you ordained to save the day so that our years and living may not be a mockery?

If you had not saved the day with David on the battlefield, Goliath would have gone away with the forty days and nights taunting of God's army and the Lord Himself? But you raised a horn for yourself! You moved your man of the match to the battlefield so that he could put a goal in the Philistines' net.

I Samuel 17:16-17, KJV

"16 And the Philistine drew near morning and evening, and presented himself forty days.

17 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren."

The rest was history. That "running to the camp" of David rested Goliath in the grave.

For forty days and nights, Israel endured the demoralization of Goliath until God raised for Israel a stock.

May God raise you to put an end to nonsense ravaging our world! May God lead you to say, "I can't take it anymore."

Lord, raise up salvation and raise for us a horn!

Raise salvation for us and raise us too as a cure for men as you have solely appointed!

Those who are proud will say, "they need no men." But we who know the work of the Lord will cry saying, "Lord, in whose hand have you put my cure?"

We are willing and obedient! We are not proud at heart as to despise or neglect the provision of the Lord. If it's what He has prepared for us, we'll take it. We won't shirk away from what the Lord has prepared and furnished for us. If we know it, we shall take it.

God is not just giving us men. He's giving us, "men that have lapped with their tongues." He's giving us men of uncommon and extreme obedience. He has sieved our men from men and He's only presenting to us, "the prepared!" Our very own! The one we can confidently say, "the Lord gave us." The ones with whom we can do life and fight the battle of the Lord together.

Don't force relationships. Let God give you men that have lapped with their tongues. Those are the men after God's heart. Men that lapped are such that have passion and motivation after God's heart. They only live out God's standards. God told Gideon, "By the 300 that lapped will I save you..."

God Himself could swear on them! God Himself could bank on them! God Himself could recommend them without shame or any consequence of reproach!

Imagine their faithfulness and sure standing. They are men standing at attention and uprightness as the army of the Lord! They won't shiver or turn back. They are steadfast and established in what God has called them to do.

At day's end, God found Gideon's 300 men because 300 actually lapped and met the set requirements of God.

God will not use bastards for you in ministry. All pastors should relax. God can command birds, animals, all elements of nature and even humans for you. But even at that, He still chooses who or what He uses. God is choosy, picky and diligently careful on who touches His work. He won't choose those who will bring reproach to His work. He chooses those with pure hearts and clean hands. The prepared!

Those He chooses are those men who could do the "hardest", "go the extra mile", "do the unthinkable " "defy the odds", "meet the requirements."

God will use willing and obedient people. He'll raise for you disciples.

Your men are your men. Don't claim more than He gives to you. God gives us men and resources according to the expanse and demands of His assignment in our hands. God knew Gideon only needed 300 men. That's why he purged him of others. That's why He said, "and let all the other people go every man unto his home."

If you need #500,000, God won't send you #1,000,000.

God funds and fathers His needs and tasks.

Don't be emotional to collect from those God is not collecting from. Don't be pushed or pressured to ask those God is not asking. Don't ask the untested. Only ask he who has been tested, passed and approved of God.

God's endorsement which is first invisible can be visible. You'll see it in the crucified Christ life of people.

God is saying, "don't gather chaff with wheat." Separate between the men with you. Forgo this mixed multitude. Let these people you're struggling to keep as members go. They have not been given you from heaven. Don't let them begin to cause you injuries.

Let them go. Only go with God's 300 men. Take the recommendation of God and it will save the day. They are okay for every cause. They have the certification and recommendation of God. Only those could be trusted. Those are the people who'll give and look away, deserving nothing in return but rather regarding themselves as unworthy servants.

Parents should ask, "What the Lord want to do, who does He want to do it through?" Who's the channel through which He seeks to pass?

That's what God told David. He said, "your son Solomon will build me the temple." Yet, that son had not been born when that came to him.

I Chronicles 22:8-10, KJV

"8 But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.

9 Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days.

10 He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever."

God's assignment cannot be done by anyone. It's rather by those He handpick. He must choose His men. If they are not smooth stones fetched from the brook, they can do no business with Goliath. They'll slip off and fall. Sloppy men they'll be - not fit for battle.

Raise a cry to God saying, "where are my 300 men? With whom have you ordained that I should fight the battle of the Lord? With whom have you kept my cure? In whose custody reside my salvation?"

Give me my 300 men by which I will be saved! Give me men from men!

Amen!!!

WHAT CAN MEN DO TO ME?

Psalms 118:6, KJV

"The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?"

If there's any action the Lord wants to call you to this morning, it is to take account of whatsoever has been done to you and then imagine what else could be done to you. Ask with me, "what can men do to me?" In this life, some have been jilted, slandered, libeled, rejected, abused, ignored, hated, persecuted and even discriminated against. We can take account of more painful hurts and label them for what they are. In all, the Psalmist wants us to ask, "what can men do to me?" First of all, you have to see that the Psalmist creates an endless list of evils or hurts humanity can unleash against an hated neighbour. Man is wicked and he can do much but despite that much he can unleash, we're still told to ask, "what will his much amount to if God be with us?" Paste the full list of any evil invention that any man can do to you here and it shall be made void and null by just one truth - "that God is with you". God being with you is therefore the antidote that swallows and makes null and void any evil any man does or can do to you. You remember vividly the Hebrew boys. The heat killed the mighty men who threw them into the furnace. Meanwhile, they themselves survived the furnace and obtained a testimony that "fire had no power on their bodies, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire passed on them" (Daniel 3:27). They experienced the furnace but it has no effect whatsoever on them and that's because God was with them. So, what can men do to them?

This is what God does for a man that He's with and that's why you should not be afraid of what men may do to you. Your protection is the Lord if He's with you. Irrespective of what men does to you, God will ensure it becomes insignificant. It won't be traceable on you. God will overshadow its effects and those former things will no longer be remembered. What has men done to you, may the effects be annulled this instant. Gradually, may time bury it and recover you. At times, God does a kind of restoration or replenishing so that those victims of hurt may be compensated and vindicated. It's in this category, Joseph falls.

Joseph pastures the sheep of his father with the children of Zilpah and Bilhah. The Bible says he brought an evil report of them to his father. We all know that's possible because the father once sent him on an errand to look after their ways (Gen.37:13). This in itself is an exalted position that can draw hatred to anyone considering his birth rank. For his dreams which predicts him as being a leader over them, they however hated him the more and couldn't speak peaceably to him. This hatred is set in motion when Jacob made him a garment of many colours. Having concluded he enjoys a special favour while conducting himself in pride, they planned to send him on an errand he can never, never survive. One suggests killing him but Reuben wouldn't have them shed the blood of their own brother. When the opportunity avails them, they sold him into slavery to the Ishmaelites' traders. Their sole intention is, "to see what will become of his dream (Gen.37:20). You immediately know what they're fighting to hinder from that hateful speech?

Joseph's brothers are very commonsensical people and they're not different from how any average man would think. Joseph is constituting a threat to them and all they have to do is to eliminate his presence. That they have done. Having banished him to everlasting slavery, they have therefore set him on a path where all the things he had seen and predicted would never happen. Will he come back from slavery to rule over them? No! That's if he has not died before manifestation time. But this operation of Joseph's brother is the same that God now catches on to bring prophecies to pass. We all know who Joseph became and how his brothers ignorantly bowed before him.

What can be more than calling him, "lord?" When Joseph made himself known to them, as they sorrow and cry; Joseph keeps saying," God preserved him to raise him for their preservation." Later he says, "you meant it for evil but God meant it for good to save many people alive" (Gen.50:20).That's where that Psalm becomes effected. God on your side and God with Joseph made all done to him to become a key to fulfilling his destiny. They did their worst but God rose His best. At the end, it was as if Joseph had never being through slavery. When they even met him, they couldn't even find that mark on him. It's all gone. Joseph knows that. He knows God is with him and so, what can any man do unto him? What will betrayal reduce him to? It would only have effect except God is not. But if he has God by him like we read yesterday, He will turn all evil of men to advance him. Herein is fulfilled, "the Lord is on my side, I will not fear, what can man do to me?"

PRAYER: I banish the secret fear of what men can do to me? God is with me. I rise above fear.

THE SHEAF THAT ROSE

Genesis 37:7, KJV

"For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf."

There's always the sheaf that rises. That sheaf is the one that other sheaves give their obedience unto. It is the Lord's doing not man's.

In Joseph's dream, he sees his sheaf standing upright and those of his other brothers surrounding his and doing obeisance to his. These sheaves are human representatives and they symbolize something more than dry hays standing upright or bending.

As we all know, this is one of the visionary dreams that predict and foresee the future of Joseph. He'll one day become a governor and leader that men, even his family will submit to.

However, God is ready to pick up a matter with us on this. It is that, there's always the leadership sheaf. God in every generation and at every time when He has something to accomplish always does raise leaders. He'll anoint their heads with the Spirit and give them a portion that'll make their horn stand upright like the unicorn's. It is this that makes the sheaf of some people stand upright, unique and shining amidst many people of their times. When David killed Goliath, he walked his way into leadership. As he continues to wage the war of the Lord and lead Israel to battle, he reaffirms his leadership or sheaf's uprightness. It therefore becomes easier for all Israel to accept him as king later on. There's always a man with a unique achievement. This unique achievement will stand him up amidst others and it is usually what will surround him with people.

But that's not an ordinary act. It's the work that the Lord sovereignly does because He's only the One who could make space for any amidst the great and strong. Isaiah 53 says it better.

Isaiah 53:12, KJV

"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

God did that verse for Jesus but in extension to those He wants to make/shift a space for amidst those with positions and statuses.

So, the mystery of the sheaf that stands upright is a reminiscing of a leader - one amidst many that God has given to lead and provide leadership for many. The Bible still speaking of Jesus says, "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be" (Genesis 49:10, KJV).

When people gather round an anointing or a leader, it isn't because that man or woman do give them money or because he has charmed or enticed them literally. It's because there's an anointing, grace and gift with which he's endowed that made it possible for his leadership to be recognized and submitted to. You can contest with leaders but you cannot keep at it because you'll see a reason why the Lord has chosen to anoint their heads with oil. You'll soon see why it's their boat that Jesus chooses to enter and not another's (Lk. 5:3).

Leadership is first of all spiritual and not physical. It has nothing to do with age or size. Joseph is way younger than his brethren and David is even the last born of his family. But once destiny keeps calling and the anointing chooses a particular man, he makes him esteemed and favoured above all others.

That's why when the angel visits Mary, the greeting passed to her in Luke 1:28 is, "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women."

Favour is the mystery of choice and those God chooses He favours. Don't contest with who God has raised. The fact that it's God who raised them is usually pronounced in your seeing many reasons why you think they are not qualified yet surprisingly they succeed. I've seen a stammerer who is gifted and anointed for songs who a band gathers round. He even composes. As such, other instrumentalists become drawn to him. In his purpose, they found their own purposes. There's always a man that unto him shall the gathering of the people be. They'll be drawn by his light and come in submission to what he shall command them. This is the mystery of leadership that excels and stands upright amidst many. That's why in every generation, we easily recognize some people as flag bearers than others. Don't contest with it. Submit to it.

PRAYER: Lord, lift up my head. Let me take my destiny position. Call me unto my higher place. Anoint me for leadership.
