A MAN OF GOD HAS A MANNER OF LIFE - My Manner of Life Series 002

II Kings 4:9, KJV

"And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually."

A man of God has a manner of life. One time, I told our brethren to include in their library A.P. Gibb's The Preacher and His Preaching

Imagine that title. It's solely based on the verse that says, "Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee" (I Timothy 4:16).

That book actually emphasizes some things about the minister. That's what I've begun to do and deal with in this series as inspired by the Lord. When you see a minister, you should know he is a minister. God's hand should be on him. It's not the knowing that basically comes by wearing a suit or having certain hair cuts. Any one can take that appearance on themselves also.

It rather is God's possession of the man. When a man is in the grip of the divine, when he is a Nazarite, when he has been consecrated and he embraces that consecration, there's a way he will begin to appear to the world.

He will no longer look beautiful to those who are lost though he'll carry weight that presses them. He'll carry conviction that makes them see their wretchedness - run for salvation or avoid him all together. That's what it means to have lived holily before people. In no time, you'll begin to convict them. People will see you and they will be smothered at heart. Some will see you and hide or flee. It's not because you're a terror but they are guilty at heart for their unrepentant lives and will avoid being brought to light by coming in contact with you.

That's why the story of this woman and Elisha interests me. We ought to ask and ask again what this woman saw in Elisha that made her gasp and say, "this is a holy man of God."

She not only called him a man of God; she qualified it by calling him a "holy" man of God. You see, she was describing what she had both noticed about his life and learnt because of divine disclosure. She could see into the character of Elisha. She could see that he's not dubious. She has analysed how he travelled all by himself or with just one aide. Nothing about him made noise as he travelled. So, she learnt this is a quiet man - a peaceful one who loves quietness rather than fame. He neither carried a money bag nor was dressed in extravagance as if he wanted to prove something. She was reading his meekness that way and indeed she was true. She had seen right into who Elisha is. A man who's only contented by what God offers. He doesn't dupe church members or fleece people because he wanted to put hand to mouth.

She saw how grave he is and how tenacious he is with his calling. He could read his seriousness, learning how established he is through his constant passage without fanfare or entourage. He doesn't indulge in the lifestyles of kings. He's rather committed to that of the prophets. She therefore opened up to her master and lord - her husband, "this is a holy man of God who passes by us continually."

It won't be good to keep missing him. As such, he suggests, let's bring him in.

Let me ask you, what do you see in people - material wealth or their calling and grace; fruits of the Spirit or mere charisma only? And then, how should men of God be marked? By their suits, large following, luxury or by the fruits they bear?

Matthew 7:16, KJV

"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?"

Answer that question and probe your life in its light.

PRAYER: Lord, I fully submit to grow in the fruits of the Spirit.

A HOLY MAN OF GOD! - My Manner of Life Series 001

II Kings 4:9, KJV

"And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually."

Brethren, we're here to study why an alien who didn't know Elisha from Adam called him, "a holy man of God."

What did she see? Who gossiped to her? What appeared for her conviction? These and many are what we want to look into.

Let me quickly say something. No matter how hypocritical you are in speech or your lifestyle, you cannot hide your true self. I've grown to a place also where mere sitting or interacting with people would make me decipher who they are and what their cherished values are also. Without joking, if someone won't form before me but live his life, I can draw recommendations by having observed his or her living whether he/she is someone to court - as in to draw near, be friend with or hope to marry.

This great woman of Shunem saw "a holy man of God" in Elisha. Do you know that if you're prayerful, certain people can know. Being prayerful can reflect on you. Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. Spiritual devotion always leaves marks on their devotees! There are always smells that are given off which are only repercussions of having been with God or having been following Him (Acts 4:13). When you don't repay evil for evil but rather make payment for evil with good, your light will shine before men and they themselves (despite being vile) will be able to give glory and praise to your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:16). The Bible even acknowledges that this is when you can be the children of your Father who's in heaven.

Matthew 5:43-45, KJV

"43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven:..."

Brethren, this woman of Shunem saw something. Summarily, what she saw is what the Bible calls, "your manner of life" in II Timothy 3:10 and "your chaste behaviour" in I Peter 3:2. She could distinguish Elisha from other men and women who had passed that road. As Elisha trode through on his way occasionally (not mindful that someone may be observing his life and may get convicted by it), this woman sees a life marked by devotion, sacredness and consecration. While others had their gazes fixed on what the market and life had to offer, Elisha would just slip through the crowd and pass on. He was never moved by the many tricks stick jogglers, money doublers and many professional charlatans were doing to con people of their hard earned resources.

What this woman sees is focus and concentration. She observed a man on his journey and one bent on journeying until arrival. She observed a man with no interest in tale bearing and old wives fables.

I Timothy 4:7, KJV

"But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness."

Rather, she sees a man given towards the exercising (training) of himself towards godliness in the midst of a corrupt and perverted generation who want to feed their mouths than their bellies can take. Elisha for short begged to differ.

Elisha lived in a way. He has a manner of life. It is this manner of life that he couldn't do much to hide. Rather, it sips out like an aroma. It not only does, it evangelizes and wins hearts though he never made a proclamation himself.

How you live your life may look subtle and immaterial but it is graspable even if it is not grabable. Something graspable can be understood though it cannot be touched or physically related with. That woman couldn't hold the manner of life of Elisha as a physical tangibility in her hands but she "perceived" or sensed it. Perception denotes a spiritual knowing. It shows seeing, knowing or having knowledge beyond what appears to the physical senses. It takes a witness or conviction of one's heart towards being persuaded.

You're being watched! You too, you're being seen. Will your life convict men or confuse them?

PRAYER/CONFESSION: No! I am the aroma of Christ. My life will convict men and not confuse them.

A POEM: WE'LL RUN AND NOT BE TIRED - Olusola ADEJUMO

WE'LL RUN AND NOT BE TIRED - Olusola ADEJUMO

Eyiwunmi, you'd better tell them

that we'll run and not be wearied.

We are not of those who shrink back.

We see to the end,

laying to rest that which we have started.

We shall give no sleep to our eyelids,

and no slumber shall breach our eyes.

When wearied to trek,

we shall rejuvenate and be born again.

With wings,

we'll fly the remnant distance as newborns.

We're not like one chasing nothing.

The punches we throw are jaw-dropping.

Even at shadow boxing,

it is rigorosity we cast—binding the body with the spell of training.

We can't die, because our inner man resists death's wishes.

We will our lives,

authoring the scripts we play.

Imperishable particles are we;

we trouble their sight like alligator pepper,

infiltrating their coast like hordes of microorganisms,

yet achieving like a colossus.

Read The Analysis & Interpretation

Title: “We’ll Run and Not Be Tired”

The title immediately signals resilience, faith, and relentless pursuit. It echoes scriptural undertones (Isaiah 40:31), setting a spiritual framework of strength against exhaustion.

Stanza 1

“Eyiwunmi, you'd better tell them / that we'll run and not be wearied.”

Meaning: A direct address — you invoke a witness or confidant (Eyiwunmi) to affirm your commitment. It’s not just personal determination; it’s a public declaration.

Effect: Sets the tone of urgency and confidence, almost like a war cry against doubt.

Stanza 2

“We are not of those who shrink back. / We see to the end, / laying to rest that which we have started.”

Meaning: You reject cowardice. Persistence is central — you finish what you begin.

Effect: The language conveys discipline and courage, anchoring the reader in your resolve.

Stanza 3

“We shall give no sleep to our eyelids / and no slumber shall breach our eyes. / When wearied to trek; / we shall rejuvenate and be born again. / With wings, / we'll fly the remnant distance as newborns.”

Meaning: This stanza pushes endurance beyond natural limits. Rest is sacrificed; when the body is weary, renewal springs forth, symbolized by wings and rebirth.

Effect: It fuses human grit with spiritual renewal, heightening the imagery from trekking (earthly struggle) to flying (divine strength).

Stanza 4

“We're not like one chasing nothing. / The punches we throw are jaw-dropping. / Even at shadow boxing, / it is rigorosity we cast — binding the body with the spell of training.”

Meaning: Your striving is purposeful, not futile. Even in practice (“shadow boxing”), effort is real, rigorous, and transformative.

Effect: You use physical training imagery (boxing, discipline) to show how preparation itself is an act of greatness.

Stanza 5

“We can't die because our inner man resists death's wishes / We will our lives — / authoring the scripts we play. / Imperishable particles are we, / we trouble their sight like alligator pepper. / Infiltrating their coast like hordes of microorganisms / Yet achieving like a colossus.”

Meaning: This is the climax. You affirm spiritual immortality — the inner man cannot be conquered. You script your destiny, resilient and sharp (like alligator pepper), small yet pervasive (like microorganisms), yet monumental in achievement (like a colossus).

Effect: This stanza blends humility and grandeur: the microscopic and the colossal coexist. It’s a bold statement of invincibility and divine empowerment.

Overall Interpretation

Your poem dramatizes endurance, resilience, and spiritual renewal. It moves from personal resolve, to rigorous discipline, to supernatural vitality, and ends with triumphant invincibility. Each stanza layers the progression: declaration → persistence → renewal → purposeful rigor → immortality and greatness.

GRAND RISING!

Numbers 23:24, KJV

"Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain."

When you're zealous, it shows how you enthusiastically draw to meet tasks. Those who are reluctant, displaying sluggishness lack energy or initiative. They may even be of the number being forced to get the job done. However, if the dew of youth is well settled on you and you're well motivated, you move and your moving or rising could only be called a grand rising. A rising that's geared towards the purpose. A rising that's aiming for the head of Goliath. A rising of vision - with heart and gaze towards accomplishment.

The Bible says in today's reading, "behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion..." What does that suggest to you? What imagery is being painted there? It's that of one full of energy, passion, ready to meet his daily works. That's a goal-getter in there.

It's my prayer that we won't lack in zeal. Rather we'll be fervent in spirit.

Romans 12:11, KJV

"Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord"

When you have zeal, you're propelled naturally. People would wonder what drives you but only you will know. It'll be the goals that must not slide until you've taken them down.

A lion rises majestically and when it does, it is towards a goal. It is to hunt and eat the prey. It rouses itself up. It stirs itself up to work. Even if all is depressing around you, God is saying, encourage yourself. Great people who keep at it are those who can self encourage themselves even when all has collapsed around them.

Speaking of David, after he had exchanged words with Goliath, the Bible recognized he didn't delay. When Goliath rises to meet him, he immediately rushes to meet him also. Ensure you too give it what it takes. You must not be a sloth - dragging your body, dragging yourself. You must lift yourself up!

I Samuel 17:48, KJV

"And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine."

Did you see that? David hastened and ran towards the army to meet the Philistine. The opportunity David recognized God has provided for him in striking down Goliath is to be taken now and David isn't indifferent about it. His drawing towards the battle to meet Goliath reveals his readiness, faith and zeal. As you go about your businesses today, don't be lacking in zeal. Draw near to/against all projects that look mammoth and gigantic in faith. God has given them into your hands. When you believe, you don't act in doubt, rather you're spurred in faith. This leads to rising up as a great lion. Such grand rising is a product of faith that exhume confidence.

Today, yours is a grand rising propelled by faith.

PRAYER/CONFESSION: I am active and zealous. I am fervent and internally propelled. I do not succumb to discouragement or self pity. I rise as a lion to attack my objectives and I achieve them.

MARKING AND CHERISHING A SPECIAL CHILD

Exodus 2:2, KJV

"And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months."

The jealousy anyone has over anything is visibly seen in the preciousness of that thing. May you stop regarding after the flesh, as common or as ordinary what has another side, dimension and blessing to it that you haven't seen.

If you cannot decipher the preciousness of your child, you'll treat him or her as ordinary. As a matter of fact, you can't give him any special education - in the direction of his utmost passions, the kind that can train and harness his talents and gifts for what he should obviously become.

Many parents might have prayed for a creative and talented child but the truth is that they just cannot decipher one. There are children who have been isolated because their uniqueness, gifting and manifestations differ from what eyes have accustomed itself with. Shouldn't be.

On the day Moses was born, the mother could visibly sense that there was something different about him. When KJV says, "and the child is beautiful", it clearly means some other things in other versions. It means, Moses is a special or destiny child. So, what the mother smelled was a foretaste of his future and that God has a plan for this boy.

Jochebed could smell his destiny and that God may have a need for this one. For that reason, a boy who could have been yielded up was not released. Rather, they stuck out their necks for him. They took the risk and hid him for three months. Why all these efforts? That would be because of the specialness of the 'cargo' they have at hand. When you see into the spiritual side of a child - even your own child, your attitude immediately changes towards them. You don't relate with them carelessly but rather you call people to do in view of what you have discovered. That's why Moses' parents sought all means to retain him. Who does not want a special child - a child of destiny?

Taking this further, you'll also see that Miriam didn't leave for home after Moses was dropped off at the Nile.

Exodus 2:4, KJV

"And his sister stood afar off, to wit what would be done to him."

She stayed back wanting to see what would happen to the baby. That's part of the care system and cherishing that goes into discovering the worth of your kid. You'll retain a special jealousy for him or her. You won't let anyone call them some subtle diminishing names. Rather, everything will be in view of who God says they are and should be.

Let me ask you, have you seen the other side of your child? If you haven't, you will treat them anyhow. You'll send them to go and spend their holidays with relatives who are not even born again and cannot harness them for destiny. You won't be able to protect what should be hedged. Rather, you'll leave them vulnerable until the devil goes for what makes them who they are.

You must quickly see now and begin to give your kids the demands of their destinies.

PRAYER/CONFESSION: My child is a beautiful child. He/she carries a special destiny and is key in the volume of God's book.

WHERE YOU SHOULD GET

Read Acts 9:1-17

Acts 9:10, KJV

" And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord".

When you get here, it means you'll always be readily sendable. God has just found a need to meet and the next thing He does is to look for a human vessel who He could send. At a call, the response of this vessel shows he's both prepared and ready. His response also shows who he submits to and reference as Lord. Many Christians have Jesus as their Saviour but He hasn't yet become their Lord. There are things He can't touch in their lives or collect from them. They're still married to their own will - their very lord. "Ananias", God calls. "I am here", he responds". This should be the mark of a growing Christian especially one that'll bring gain to the kingdom. Like I said yesterday, we are in a kingdom where all of us are resources in God's hands. So, He administers and send us whithersoever He wills. The Bible records that Jacob sent Joseph likewise on an errand and his reply to the call shows a surrendered life and will.

Genesis 37:13, KJV

"And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I".

What did he say to him? "Here am I". God wants all of us to get here. A place where we are found for admnistering or errands as it would befit occasions. The truth is this, if you're not found for admnistering, God's work will continue. The experience of delay in the arrival of resources to he who needs it urgently may be inevitable but God will always and eventually make for Himself. The truth is that God always prepare and reserve for Himself. Don't forget that He has a reserve even if any man boasts himself as the only findable tool in His hands (I Kings 19:10, 18). God's children are scattered every where. Some are even in Saudi Arabia. To your shock, they may be in the high Imams' houses. They are secret believers who are pining for more expression of their faith but God is God to them and they aren't ashamed to call him Lord or submit to Him as Lord likewise. "Here am I" shows a man that God has found and who He can now commit to. I briefly raised the fact that you may be someone's answer of yesteryears, months or days in the first series of this devotional. God sent Elijah to the ravens (where they'll meet him at Brook Cherith). He did likewise to him when he sent him to the widow of Zarephath (I Kings 17). It means those are the two sets of people who will acknowledge him. If Elijah should mistakenly go elsewhere, he'll testify by experience that he missed it because none he goes to will acknowledge him. And if they ever feed him, it will be a blessing with reproach to him. Why? They have not been commanded and put under obligation for his sake. Those who can open up to you are those God has commanded for your sake.

I Kings 17:4,9, KJV

"And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there".

"9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee".

If I'm not under command by my Lord as a man of the spirit, why should I come and propose to you and why should you say yes to me when you have not received afore notification about me or my coming? Why? When God calls you and you say, "here am I", it means you're found administrable. Once you're eventually administered, you immediately bear a command to someone or a place. Jacob's errand has a specific intent and people as target. Joseph was sent to his brothers. Ananias was sent to brother Saul. Who are you sent or being administered to? That should be the next question. Some of you, you have been administered and sent to someone already. Instruction has gone on your head like Abraham that God told to leave but who still stays back (Gen.12).

The fellow also has received a command of God that when you come, she should open up and receive you. However, here you are still reasoning it out. You wouldn't want to propose to that sister because 'how can it be" is what you have filled your throat with? I'm so sure you can't be wiser than God. He has seen it can be. The prayer for a life partner that you've been praying for years is now to be answered. Though you have now being sent to an address, you're refusing to go there because you have found something out about that address and target that's in disarray or in disharmony. That can never be eventually true. If it eventually is, it means God makes a mistake pairing you both together. You're proving to be beyond admnistering therefore. You're refusing not to be an answer to someone's prayer also. You aren't the only fellow who prayed. As you were trusting God for a life partner and would daily and often pray to be remembered and led, so she also prayed. She knows you but she can't come to you to initiate it. What your responsibility should be is what you have refused to do now. The truth is just that even God can administer two obedient Christians to have their paths crossed and marry. The Lord who told Ananias to go heal Saul also told Ananias that Saul had seen in a vision a man named Ananias laying his hands on him to receive his sight and be filled with the Holy Ghost. It means this two are slated to meet. You may refuse such admnistering but God can never never be stranded. You're just a vehicle which God uses to fulfill His will. You're a part player. Your obedience can be consequential but God will always remedy things for he or she who should have benefitted from your submission to prompt administering. When the brook where Elijah drank from dried for instance, didn't God send him to the widow of Zarephath? Let us say you refuse to be administered and become an answer to someone's prayer or urgent need, God will find an alternative to you. There's always an alternative by the corner, in the distant Zarephath of Zidon to every brook that dries or to anyone who says, he or she has had enough.

Lord, what befits us is to be "here" before you always. What befits us is to eventually and in no time submit to your administering even if we have loads of complaints. Ananias also wouldn't go to Saul without a fight. He said he has heard a whole lot of things about his destructive acts especially to Your church in Jerusalem and how he has now come with permission from the authority to bind those of the Way in Damascus. However, your explanation satiates him. You only say.

Acts 9:15-16, KJV

"...Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: 16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake".

And that was all. The end of all strife for Ananias. The next verse recorded that he went. God, today, I submit, cast down all arguments and say, "whither Thou sends me, I will go; what Thou bid me, I will do.

PRAYER: Lord, may I be sendable. I am available, send and use me Lord.
