THEY HAVE THEIR REWARD!

Matthew 6:5-6, KJV

"5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

May this voice not speak to you. Jesus says, "they have their reward." One might take it for a good reward but that reward isn't what any God seeker should have.

Have you come to seek God or you have come for a demonstration? It is the work of the flesh urging you on to make a show, scene or scenario with your prayer life so that men might notice you. Some people in Jesus' days even took it further. They prayed in strategic places of concourse as to be noticed of men to pray. I mean, they prayed for recognition of men. At that point, Jesus vomits to them an immediate response, "they have their reward." What they're looking for is what they have found but this has hindered them from ever being a partaker in the blessing of any who prays and prays through.

This reward Jesus talks about isn't what they'll have but what they immediately have as soon as they have become hypocritical. It's like a programming that gives result as soon as it's operated. They are immediately judged for being hypocrites in prayer. You remember I Timothy 5:24 says, "some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after." These men's are open before hand. They're immediately judged. Those whose sins shall manifest immediately are those who have come with an intention of earning men's recognition. Your judgement is that, "you have your reward already." It is not what you'll hear later or tomorrow. It's a voice rebuking you immediately and seeking your amelioration.

If this is your judgement, God is trying to wean you from any further expectation of answered prayers. He's preparing your mind not to think of impressing men at His expense yet with an expectation of blessing from Him. No! You have your reward already. You're not different from that man that was told not to expect anything in prayer if he doubts.

James 1:6-7, KJV

"6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord."

Why? Because he has faulted the process by doubting. You, you have faulted the process by being hypocritical in prayer. So, don't still be caught in any deception of yourself that God is merciful. On this, you're judged already. What ought to be made to God primarily is been made to men! If you're praying to be seen and acknowledged of men, judge if you are praying to God. We could even take it further by calling you an idolater. You're very much or close to that camouflage of deferring what God should attentively acknowledge to what men should see and praise you for.

Irrespective of the number, people, status of people who found themselves stumbling against this principle, the judging voice speaking to them this morning is that they've been judged already and so, "they have their reward." That reward as it's been elaborated to me is immature and untimely. No farmer plants and expects germination so soon and fruits instatenously but these breakers and violators of process tend to have their own that immediately. A mark that God doesn't favour such act at all. You should search yourself if your things have been to impress men and be seen of them instead of God. If it is, you'll on many occasions collide with the will of God and can never become a yielded vessel in His hands. The reason is because He hasn't become your Lord and doesn't have you totally for Himself. Have you been having your reward or you'll await your reward. The Bible says, "God is a rewarder of they that diligently seeks Him (Heb.11:6). This verse means God will reward you but never untimely, inappropriately and immaturely. I pray that the voice of God's judgement and disfavour won't speak into your life.

PRAYER: Lord, kill in me what's breathing and desiring the inordinate acknowledgement of men and endorsement.

THE REWARD OF PRAYER

Matthew 6:5-6, KJV

"5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

There's nothing justly done without its reward. The reward itself accompanies it to appreciate the sacrifice given which a great congregation might be defying. You and I can have the reward of prayer. In getting where we'll have that however, we'll do well if we heed some ordinances of Jesus on prayer.

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet" - Jesus said this in contrast to many who prayed with the intention of being seen, regarded as religious or hardworking in prayer. If that's there intention for which they pray, Jesus says, "they have their reward." They have their reward means they have their reward. You can't improve on that. These are words coming from Jesus' mouth Himself. That's why He wrote to you personally saying, "but thou when you pray." You know, we'll say, "God judges intention." Yes, He does and you should always purge your conscience and make it clear by asking always "the why" behind any of your action. Many actions are dead works. They're spurred by rivalry, desire for public praise, fame or that which perishes. You will get in contrast with kingdom principles and God if your intention is alien to what God says is acceptable.

If there's a guideline to doing an exam and passing it but same is defied, we all know you'll be penalized. The same applies here. Jesus has set for us new laws as it regards prayer and personal prayer mostly. He's saying, "mind your intention for praying." If it's to look like a praying mantis before the people, you'll have your reward. Your reward is that you'll be seen and praised by them to pray. But that act will rob you of consequently having whatsover you have asked in prayer from God because your intention isn't to have an answer from Him but rather to impress men. Keep impressing men and losing God's favours. In doing something spiritual like prayer, you may get into trouble. The idea that you should pray in your closet after shutting the door against yourself is a provision to help you maintain privacy (of being touched by men or of touching them) and concentration. You're different from those who intentionally situates themselves where they'll be seen of men to pray and be praised for same.

Jesus now promises that any who fulfils this condition of prayer would see His Father in heaven - the One Who sees in secret reward him openly.   Your prayers - secret heart desires should be unto God. In prayer, we don't come to pose to God, we reveal our deepest longings to Him. He's someone we could disclose to. When rightly done for the right purpose, we're promised an answer. Also, it should be noted that it's very much inappropriate to pray and disturb your neighbours. The blueprint given us here would curtail that as well. If your prayers were to be secret to your Father which is in secret, then you won't have any basis for a jangling prayer that disturbs or wants to be heard. If that's your intention, Jesus is saying, "you already have your reward." If you're ignorant, correct it. That means, there's nothing that could be done to change God's mind about giving you answers to your prayers. You wanted to be heard, seen, felt and acknowledged of men to pray and they have and that's all. You have received your reward. They might have been deceived by the fact that you pray and spend time in prayer because you wanted them see same but Jesus says, "that's all, you'll ever have as your reward." "You have your reward" means since your intention has been achieved, you don't need another answer.

This is how many put themselves in trouble with God and wonder at what's not working that they're working. Hannah typifies one who prays this secret prayer. She even prays in her heart. Though Eli saw her lips moving and heard no voice, Hannah's intention was not to draw attention or be acknowledged to pray. As a matter of fact, Eli misconceived her for being drunken and didn't believe she actually prayed until Hannah opened up to him (I Sam.10:17). Jesus also fulfilled this when He went out to pray in a solitary place a great while before day.  (Mark 1:35). Today, you have a choice - to be acknowledged by men or God. It's he who acknowledges you from whom your reward will come.

PRAYER: May I stop every vain labour. May I not yield to the desire of the flesh to be praised or acknowledged. May I rather see the children of prayers.

THE PRAYERS GOD IS FAMILIAR WITH - Seek Right Series 005

I Kings 3:8,11, KJV

"8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment."

It is God who tells us the trap Solomon could have fallen into but he escaped it by his unselfishness while seeing himself as a needy who needed to be empowered and equipped for his own ministry. God told us three things he could have asked for. Do you know something I discovered? Those three things God said Solomon could have asked for are what God do hear from the lips of people when they ask of Him often. On daily basis, when people come to God, their prayer always is and always revolves round those three requests. They're:

1. God, give me long life.

2. God, give me my enemies.

3. God, give me riches.

This is one of the reasons why God is impressed with Solomon because he seems to have thought differently and acted differently from the masses. He deviated from all the popular asks that God is usually bombarded with. Though the Holy Spirit is not yet inside him yet he proved how believers ought pray according to the will and expectation of God.

On daily basis, multitude seek after "other things." They neglect God's kingdom, its servicing and glorification even when they are not pulpit ministers. They have left from asking God insights into the cures of diseases and discoveries in order to make life better. They only want food, clothing and shelter but would sacrifice what could secure all those. Who will God give entrance into discoveries that money, fame and honour won't follow? That's how Solomon learnt to labour wisely by asking for the one thing that matters. You too, be weary of petty asks. Pray transcendental prayers. Ones that move God. Ones that catch His notice and draws His attention. Stop asking for yourself only. I say, be overwhelmed with others and service for humanity in your asks. Stop dying and stopping where others died and stopped. Go further. Leave them behind. Ask for people and nations and He'll surely make it your inheritance and possessions (Psalm 2:8). There's no breath or distance of asking that God can't fulfill. You can empty Him yet He'll never be emptied. Begin to seek higher things and let the testimony of God be, "because you've not asked for yourself riches, long life or the life of your enemies but a discerning heart to judge the people, I have given you that and all that you didn't ask for." This is the prayer that justifies wise request. It's the prayer that seeks God's kingdom and His righteousness yet have other things attracted also but which men have made their own focus by wrong prioritizing. "All these things" will be freely given you if you'll be this wise like Solomon. Those who ask the chief things don't need to ask for "all these things" again. One will secure the others.

PRAYER: Teach me the seeking of Your kingdom and His righteousness in prayer.

BEING UNSELFISH IN PRAYER  - Seek Right Series 004

Read I Kings 3:1-10

I Kings 3:11, KJV

"And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

To mark a selfish man isn't far fetched. Close on his prayer. Watch and analyse it. What is Solomon's unselfish prayer? Let's analyse his prayer from what he didn't pray.

I Kings 3:8-9, KJV

"8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?"

He said, "I'm in the midst of much people who could confuse a judge. So, give me a discerning heart (one I could use to judge them aright)." A discerning heart is for right judgement and you'll agree Solomon got that because the two prostitutes' knotty case proves that to be true (I Kings 3:16). You can't say you have received a gift until it's first tested out. Stop claiming you have a gift that has not been experienced or acknowledged indeed. I said Solomon's prayer is unselfish. How? What he asked for is not even for himself in that it's not a thing meant to meet his own needs. He said, "give me a discerning heart that I may be able to judge this Thy people aright." He asked for that for the good and welfare of the people. Will it be good to call someone a judge yet switches wrong for right? Is that not why justice has been perverted in many societies and the guiltless taken to be guilty? Who wants to live under such type of government where the just are punished and the offenders walk freely and boastfully. So that there might be fear of God, respect for the king and fairness amidst the citizens; that the righteous may know that no offender shall go unpunished and so keep up with being good, he asked for good judgement. So tell me, what benefit does that give him? He requested for a gift to the benefit of others and that's the same thing the anointing on any minister is for. It's to minister to the masses and not the carrier. The minister like myself must as well learn how to receive by faith for his own daily victorious living if he has needs.

That's what God noticed which made Him full of swelling impression for Solomon. He said, "you have not asked for YOURSELF riches, for the life of your enemies or for long life." These are the common everyday prayers multitudes pray day in, day out for themselves yet without any remarkable progress.

Solomon transcends being selfish. He went to live beyond the request of the masses. A true mark of a king who must be discerning than the subject. Today, mark yourself different. Be unselfish in pray. Ask that God might bless others using you. Ask that you might be used of God to meet the needs of others. Let it always and mostly be for others and in that you'll be satisfied and your own needs met.

PRAYER: Lord, open my eyes to the kind of prayers to pray in this season of my life. I transcend the common requests.

WHEN THE BIG TENDER COMES - Seek Right Series 003

Mark 6:22-23, KJV

"22 And when the daughter of the said Herodias came in, and danced, and pleased Herod and them that sat with him, the king said unto the damsel, Ask of me whatsoever thou wilt, and I will give it thee. 23 And he sware unto her, Whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half of my kingdom."

The big tender will come. I already said that during the beginning of this year that opportunities will come your way but will you be sensitive, well placed and readied to catch it? Your tender will come. Your time will come. An open cheque shall hit your table but then, you must be ready to catch it. It is Herod who has it to give who organizes an in-house party for many guests on his birthday. They eat and drink. The partying is loud. To top it all, a guest artiste is invited. She is known for her graceful and impressive dancing. She has one thousand turnings and twists in her custody. Such is she who's fit to dance and perform before royalty who no man should disappoint. Until any is sure of himself and his calling, such is not brought into the chamber and made to appear before kings. Or else, those who bring them and the fellow brought may both incur his wrath. A moral that we all must prove to be sound professionals in what we profess is our thing. That's when our gift could make a room for us in truth.

The guest artiste dances and shakes all to their foundations. The applause in the house is full of revival and the whisper is, "she deserves to be praised." The King having being impressed brought out his cheque book in the spirit of that celebration. He's ready to prove how great he is. He said in the full glare of all. "Ask of me anything even to the half of my kingdom and I shall do it."

Since this guest minister has been going for shows, this is likely the first time somebody says, "determine what you'll get. Name your price!" She was confused right away. She never prepared for this. Immediately, she withdraw to seek counsel of a forerunner on how to utilize this opportunity and draw on this tender. And she proved having been taught. How did we know? We were told what she asked almost empty the king's account to the extent that he wasn't pleased (Mark 6:26). Kai! This lady couldn't have sounded that depth on her own.

Solomon's opportune time came and this lady's also arrive, this is a pointer that God will come for you too. Your blank cheque is coming. However, how ready are you? Are you prepared? Do you know what to pray and ask for at such tender? Do you know what to draw from the well even if you're presented with opportunity to draw? Do you have those guiding you and teaching you on what next to do after an occurrence of an event? If you don't, you'll always be shortchanged and you might not utilize the biggy tenders that'll come your way this year. God is saying, "be ready and then have a support system by your side." The Bible tells me of a tree whose leaves never wither and which brings out his fruit in his season (Psalm 1:3)." Don't think this tree achieves this on his own. It's basically because of its siting. We were again told that, "it's a tree planted by the riverside." That means what keeps it running, productive and never dry in all seasons (including dry or drought) is the availability of water and consequent his sucking of it. This year, I see you being prospered by counsel and counsellors by your side. They shall do you good and not harm and in them you shall safely trust to maximize all your tenders. Don't rely on your own understanding only. It's always in the multitude of counselors, there's safety (Prov.11:14).

PRAYER: Lord, teach me on the usage of the wisdom of others. May I open to what experience, professionalism and revelation of others could teach me. May you always come to my aid through men.

MOTHER, TEACH ME HOW TO HUNT! - Seek Right Series 002

Read Mark 6:12-29

Mark 6:24, KJV

"And she went forth, and said unto her mother, What shall I ask? And she said, The head of John the Baptist."

You actually don't know how to hunt but you need learn how to hunt. Your prayer should be, "Lord, show and teach me how to hunt." Did we not know that at least David said  "He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms (Psalms 18:34)." So, it's a reality and not a denial that the Lord do teach and could tailor His teaching to your own specific need.

Herod in the spirit of hilarity promised the daughter of Herodias to make any request upon him. How much more God whose is the earth and all that's in them? How I wish Herod had seen the end before now however but he was too impressed. Not wanting to disgrace and reduce his own words to nothingness, he orders with bravery that the head of a prophet - John the Baptist be given to Herodias' daughter. But this girl is too young. She knows not what to pray or how to pray it. That's why she immediately flings to her mother with the cry, "mummy, teach me what to pray. I know not what to ask." The mother must have smiled and said, "thanks you didn't waste this rare privilege and open door. I will now teach you daughter and you shall come home with a baffling profit. You shall fish big from the waters and all that hears shall be surprised." Immediately, this woman taught her to ask for the head of John the Baptist. This was the girl that didn't know what to afore ask for. She could have asked for some petty gifts if left alone but the mother put her right and aided her in her asking so much more that her ask reveals maturity beyond her age. I'm hearing a loud echo in my spirit saying, "likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27, KJV).

Paul is saying that our failure to know God’s will and consequent inability to petition God specifically and assuredly is met by God’s Spirit, who himself expresses to God those intercessory petitions that perfectly match the will of God. When we do not know what to pray for—yes, even when we pray for things that are not best for us—we need not despair, for we can depend on the Spirit’s ministry of perfect intercession “on our behalf.” Where our profit is is that we're not forlorn. Even in our weakness, God's Spirit intercedes for us succinctly as fit and meet with what's the will of God (the mark that should not be missed). This is where all petitioners who don't know what to ask or how to ask it can be made perfect. Herodias'daughter knows not how to pray nor know what to ask for, but she was aided. The difference is only that those words were put in her own mouth. Apart from the importance of mentoring that I'm seeing there, being full of yourself will rob you and make you request for less where you could have carried the 'head of John the Baptist" or make the greatest tender that'll leave God's account with sigh. You really don't know what to ask or pray. So, we ought to often pray that we'll be led in prayer to hit on the mind of God. There are Spirit led prayers. I call it dictates. It's what you hear bubbling from your inside when you pray. Some call it prophetic prayer. This is the mind of God per time apart from all His explicitly revealed will already stated in the Bible. At times, scriptures will float to your mind time after time.

Today, God wants you to be humble and acknowledge you know not how to pray. Apart from the Spirit's intercessory work of aiding our weaknesses, take the yoke and responsibility of the Spirit praying through you upon yourself and you shall always hunt big. Yield to him if you sense a move in your spirit. Quit yourself, be quiet and know He's Lord. The Spirit knows what's the will of the Father and He'll help you ask the important, major, big and impressive delightful things.

PRAYER: Thank you for the intercessory role of the Holy Ghost for me. Teach me to ask Lord. Equip me to ask according to Your will.

WHEN YOU IMPRESS GOD - Seek Right Series 001

Read I Kings 3:1-10

I Kings 3:9-10, KJV

"9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing."

Only few ever impress God. So few a people. How do we impress God? By seeking of Him what will impress Him? Many times, people ask or seek frivolously but God wants you to be weaned and be saved from the selfishness revealed in your search and prayer.

God appeared to Solomon in Gibeon and in his dream. He made him a tender, "ask of me anything." This is probably after the first impression he made on God. Solomon was said to have sacrificed a thousand burnt offerings. Imagine slaughtering an animal at every step and inch (I Kings 3:4). Solomon having just being crowned king therefore requested for an understanding and discerning heart as to be able to judge the people. He touched God because the Bible recorded that, "his speech pleased Him." Many a speech that didn't even persuade God. These are prayers and thoughts that didn't bypass the ceiling to the heavens. At such impression, God couldn't hold it but express His delight. He told him, "because you have not asked for what men prioritize and what concerns many, I have given thee an understanding heart that never existed before thee or after thee (I Kings 3:11)." To now prove that Solomon indeed impinged on God's heart, God told him, "I've also given you what you didn't ask for: riches and honour so that there'll not be any like you in your day (v.12). Look at how Solomon caught what he didn't even ask for!

That's it. Solomon impressed God. He asked for what should be the ingredient of his ministry as a king and one who will often judge the people. God sees that the love to excel in kingship and never be partial or misjudge exists in him. What did God respond with? He saluted him for such good choice, compared his choice with many frivolous choices (God must have seen and experienced of other men) and then gave him his request while blessing him with what he didn't ask for in his prayer. Many times, we humans are so parochial that we miss the mark. There's a chief blessing that command others. If you seek that chief blessing, it'll attract to you other minor blessings. But many times, we pursue the lesser instead of the greater. When Solomon went for gold, God gave him other trophies with it.

Matthew 6:33 says, "but seek first His kingdom and his righteousness and all these things shall be yours as well." You see, knowing what to seek is actually not so hidden. The Bible keeps helping us focus on what our pursuit should be. But many there be who run helter skelter after what can't bring them the ultimate in life. If you seek after God's will, seeking to make heaven a reality on earth for humans wherever you are, you can't but possess other things like fame, riches and honour. In the service you've committed yourself to, other attractions will by it come.  But, what people pursue are "these things - food, clothing, shelter (Matt.6:31)" to the neglect of His kingdom and God's ways of doing things.

Today and this early, God wants you to prioritize what to seek and pray for in prayer. Don't waste your bullets. Focus your target and it'll have a mark. There are blessings that command other blessings. The mark that Solomon asked right and that God was impressed with him is giving him other things many covet and do die for but which he acquired by pursuing "the only one thing that matters." The mark that "seeking God's kingdom and His righteousness" is chief also comes with sub blessings. It therefore tells me that whenever a man seeks right, he's rewarded beyond his search. Please, seek right this year.

PRAYER: Lord, open my eyes to the utmost need in my life and of my ministry, vocation or assignment. May I seek and impress God.
