MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

WHO'S THE LORD MAKING PREPARATIONS FOR?

Psalms 105:17, KJV

"He sent a man before them, even Joseph, who was sold for a servant:"

Do you know Joseph has been overblown? We have over spoken about his destiny, greatness and accomplishments in the land of Egypt to the neglect of why the Lord gave him such favour and promotion.

Joseph didn't become what he became for himself. He himself knows that when he said it was God who sent him ahead of them (Gen. 45:5). He knew his promotion and ascension was unusual and that God only gave him those privileges to enjoy but He actually needed the rule in his hand to achieve a purpose - preserve Israel.

The place we're considering today says, "He [God] sent a man before them..."

Two entities are mentioned there - Joseph (the sent man) and those on whose behalf he was sent. Imagine becoming something for someone or some people. How's it that everything Joseph passed through was so that Israel might not pass through the same? How many of you observed that Israel only had a free passport into Egypt? They didn't have to beg for it. They didn't have to pay a dime for it. They were allocated the best of the land without any form of payment. Why does their own things come free when we know that Joseph himself (the man sent before them) didn't have it easy when he was sent? As a matter of fact, his mode of transportation is slavery. The Bible says, "He sent a man before them, even Joseph who was sold for a servant." God did a thing like this out of love for His people. He'll rather suffer one man than the entire people. Didn't you hear the high priest say something of that nature about Christ and His assignment?

John 11:49-50, KJV

"49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not."

That's because God cared for His people. The assignment and calling of Joseph is not very different from Jesus' calling. What He suffered is so that we might enjoy. He died so that we might have redemption and abundant life. Though Jesus is important but we are not less important. Why the Lord looked away and allowed Him to be pierced not only by sorrows but by suffering is because God was targeting us.

That verse actually turns me inside out. "He sent a man before them..."

As a matter of fact, the idea it passes is that of an errand boy running before an important convoy. Joseph is the errand boy that precedes the train that would soon come which God delights in and wants to preserve. This is why you cannot fail. This is why you must not give in to sin or compromise. You might be the emissary of some people. You may be lifted so high and blessed seriously by the Lord just for that. That doesn't mean you're more important than the people you're raised for. If you're wise, you'll understand that without them needing you, you wouldn't have been raised or called upon in the first place.

God sent a man ahead of Israel [Jacob] because He loves them and seeks to protect His covenant with their forefathers. God is sending people ahead of you and not only that. He will send words ahead of you. You will meet your ground prepared. You will not arrive without a mouth to advocate your matter and an arms to welcome you.

So shall it be! Amen!

PRAYER: Lord, may I be humble to understand the weight of the responsibility on me. May I not become proud because I'm the sent one but understand why I was sent.

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Ezek. 1:1-3:15, Hebrews 3:1-19; Psalm 104:1-23, Prov. 26:24-26
