IN THE PRISTINE WORLD - In The Beginning Series 001

Genesis 1:1, KJV

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."

When a vehicle is newly rolled out of the factory, it draws the attention of everyone for its beauty and perfection. This vehicle has not for once experienced wear and tear. This vehicle has not been dented or even accidented. It is a product that still expresses the original intention of the manufacturer. That's why it appeals to us that much.

At such a moment, you can stop to praise the brand maker for all the details they paid attention to in making it. As a matter of fact, that's when all those details are clearly seen and praised - from the interior to the exterior and even farther to the vehicle's engine. Why? It has not departed from its intended perfection.

You have heard of vehicles in their first bodies. The price for a vehicle in its first body/elements will therefore differ from one that has been beaten and battered and now is being offered for sale. Laws of diminishing returns has caught up with that.

So also is it with the original world God created which Adam started to live in. That's that world in its pristine state. Going back to the age of the early man for instance will give us some insights into that perfection when taken in comparison with what we now have. Now, billions of trees have been felled in their glory, pollution has ravaged our world. As a matter of fact, human activities have so much dented the earth that seasons and natural orders that we used to know are changing and taking new courses. You have heard of heat waves killing thousands. You have heard of a lot of humanly caused disasters which were products of our tampering with the pristine world/nature.

In the pristine world after God's creation of heaven and earth and later all that He fills it with, when God looks at it, His remark is, "behold, it was very good" (Gen.1:31). God didn't say it is good. He qualified it. He revealed the extensity or degree of how good it was. He emphasized how ordered, beautiful, clean and perfect all He had created was. He was so enthralled by what He created and filled the earth with that He said, "it was very good."

That's the pristine world. In that pristine world, leaves could have looked like AI generated images. Water was so clean that you could see many depth of the deep. What do we have now? A departure from that state. What we can't even say now is what stage of damage or depreciation our world is in.

"In the beginning" in Genesis takes us to when things are caused, freshly rolled out, starting from the heaven and earth and then its filling with creations so that it will not remain empty and formless. Think of the earth at that stage and time as a newly built apartment that you just packed into. It is void, empty and may be dark (without electricity). But then, you begin to furnish it until it takes shape and looks like something intentionally designed and curated for living.

I just packed into a new apartment. So I have a recent experience to compare that with. While I was doing the packing (before the arrangements of furniture, fixing of plumbing and electricity), everything was scattered and out of order. But then, a hand came and put each thing where it should be, then things took shape and formed. It's that world and finishing that God looks at and says of, "and it's very good."

In essence, God was praising Himself for doing a fine job. The kind that can be praised and celebrated not only by Him but anyone who contacts that first world. And we know because when Adam was created and given Eden, he never lacked. It was home indeed to him. Everything was in its pristine state. I guess you need to know what "pristine" is.

It means "unspoiled; still with its original purity; uncorrupted or unsullied." Its synonyms are immaculate, spotless, pure and untouched.

It's very opposites are corrupted, tainted, dirty, polluted, spoiled. Take this instance for an example - the beach is in pristine condition after a council-led cleanup.

It could also mean primitive, pertaining to the earliest state of something when tampering, decay or depreciation hasn't entered. Indeed, that's when anyone can look and say, "and it's very good." It's the house in its first glory; the car in its first body and the baby in its first skin. Even sin hasn't yet entered the world nor disease, sickness, curses or any unfortunate thing that sin opens the door to. The man also hasn't lost intimacy with God nor got driven out of the garden. Everything still follows the way God had intended it. That pristine world however diminishes in perfection as one generation comes, uses it and leaves it to another. As of today, the earth has been seriously damaged, not only by sin and the wickedness of humans but by maltreating nature. That's why many billionaires are seeking to carve out a niche for themselves on private islands where they could live, breathe fresh air and touch some form of that pristine state. As a matter of fact, the race to colonise Mars and other galaxies is also being fueled by the fact that a cataclysmic disaster might come upon the earth. So, some are seeking to escape it in their notion.

Irrespective, may our lives be a testimony of the perfection God intends in the beginning. Seasons were ordered, nature was obedient. Relationship and intimacy of man with God was intact. May this mark ours also.

PRAYER: Lord, may my life be a testimony of the perfection and order you intended at the very beginning.
