FOOD CONVENIENT FOR ME - Food Convenient For Me Series 001
Proverbs 30:8, KJV
"Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me."
As you grow in God, some of the things that will lose their hold on you are gluttony, greediness and wastefulness. I do tell people, "you can't use more than your body requires." If you don't want to endanger your life, you ought not to eat or drink to stupor. You have to do that moderately for your own personal ease.
However, that is not only restricted to eating and drinking. It is a key principle that ought to cut through our lives. If you built a big mansion and have many rooms in it, I bet it with you that you can't sleep in two. That's the idea of being fed with the food that is convenient for you. It means, what comes to you or gets released to you is actually what you need to do life or sustain it.
A life that is not measured, sober or disciplined will transgress this principle. Instead of living on bread that is convenient for him, he'll want to rob Peter and Paul for himself. When we look at the political scene of many countries, they are not advancing because they have corrupt leaders who have refused to live by this principle of only making to do with what is apportioned to them. Instead of their salary or allowances to be enough as "food convenient for them", many of these politicians will rather gather the money meant for millions and make it theirs. Do you know the repercussions? They have too much. They will become spoilt by abundance and confused by it. Instead of having a disciplined life, family and children, the deception of "unnecessary bread or meat" on their table will push them to misbehaviours.
There's always food convenient for each one of us. I'll give an instance. In my family, I eat less. I'll be wrong in wanting to compete with my wife who eats more because her body needs more. What I take or eat is what my body needs which will suffice for it. That is the food that is convenient or appropriate for my body. So also, there's food convenient for you. There's a provision meant to meet your needs and then that suffices.
If you were to read the next verse, you'll see why the writer prayed for food that is convenient for him.
Proverbs 30:9, KJV
"Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain."
The context therefore doesn't encourage poverty nor discourage wealth. What matters is not backsliding either because of abundance or blaspheming God due to poverty. So, he asked for a balance. Give me enough to always keep me going. Always meet my needs. Give me food that is convenient for me. Give me as much as I need daily and per time. Give me only that which is necessary for me. Appoint for me what things are needful and sufficient. Cause me to eat the bread of my allowance. The bread of allowance is what God gives, approves and tolerates. When you develop a bigger appetite than what God wants to give, you can't but eat the bread of trespasses and sin. You will backslide to meet your wide appetite!
I see that therefore as an allocation that God gives as we live, work and relate with Him daily. Food that is convenient for you to an extent communicates the idea of "the daily bread." God gives it to you as you need and in the quantity or measure that fits your needs. Even when you are rich, you still need food convenient for you or let me say you should still live with that principle in view.
One version describes "food convenient for me" by saying, "give me just enough to satisfy my needs." Another says, "feed me with the food that is needful for me." It means if it is not needful, you don't need it. Therefore, it is a measured, allotted and disciplined diet or provision that constantly sustains you through God's own hands appointing it. Nothing goes to waste even if you are a billionaire. It is a measured and disciplined lifestyle and God is your manager on this matter.
It will be wise to note that God is teaching us moderacy which is needed in having a life that will not make poverty ruin you or allow abundance drown you. God knows you cannot make do than what you need in reality. He knows what will satiate you without it confusing you. So, stop the greediness and covetousness. Stop aspiring to kill because you want to have.
James 4:2, KJV
"Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not."
If your needs have been met, let it suffice.
PRAYER: Teach me Grade A contentment and what it means to live by food convenient for me.
