WHAT ARE THE DEVICES OF THE CRAFTY? - The Lying Mouth Series 004

Job 5:12, KJV

"He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise."

The word, "craftsman" takes its origin from the word, "craft." To begin with, let's do the definition of terms. 

The word craft has many meanings that are relevant to this teaching. It's an ability, especially skill in making plans and carrying them into execution; dexterity in managing affairs, adroitness, practical cunning and ingenuity in constructing. Also, it could be sagacity, art, skill applied to bad purposes; artifice; guile; subtlety; shrewdness as demonstrated by being skilled in deception. It could even be a branch of skilled work or trade occupied by masters or certain professionals. Fast forward, it could also mean occult work or magic. It may even be a device, a means, a magical invention, spell, enchantment or any tangible product of a craftsman whether physical or spiritual like amulets, talisman or charm. 

That's how comprehensive the meaning of the word, "craft" is. If you say, that's my craft; it means that's what I've produced. For instance, the craft of a baker are the cakes and doughnuts she does. So when that verse says, "He [God] frustrates the devices of the crafty...", it means God annuls or destroys their handiworks, plans, crafts, activities, incantations, enchantments, bewitchment, charms, amulets, talisman, magic, evil works, thoughts and all vehicles of the crafty by which they could reach you. See the Lord as carrying an anti- missile weapon that is immediately released to counter an incoming drone or hypersonic missile. The Lord sights it long before it enters your territory to compromise you, sounds the sirens and then makes a release that meets it mid air and crashes it to the ground. 

That's what the Bible summarily calls, "the devices of the crafty." The devices of the crafty are their productions, mechanisms, machines and strategies. What they shape and engineer like a weapon of mass destruction. A pharmaceutical company produces medicines. The same way, the crafty one - one skilled in deception, art of war: physical or spiritual forges weapons of war also. He fashions something into existence like a blacksmith manufactures instruments of war like sword, spear, helmet etc for both the defensive and offensive works of his end users. 

That's how comprehensive God intends we should understand that verse. "Devices" means every weapon possible that could be made and then launched at you. That's what God stands up to frustrate, gag or disturb. Take the case of David fighting against Absalom for instance. What he really had to contend with was the counsel of Ahithophel that's likened to a wise word from God or an oracle. That's the device or instrument of war that has been released against him and will need to be deactivated. That wisdom if allowed to flower would have gotten David killed that night (II Kings 17:15-16). In the case of Samaria, the wisdom of sieging them by Benhadad until they're forced to surrender is the strategy that the Lord had to frustrate and call off (II Kings 7:6). Without the Lord frustrating that particular act, Samaria's back would have been put on the ground. It would have been, "shame on them!" However, the Lord disallows it. 

In your case, it may be one mouth speaking against your promotion. It may be someone spreading lies and negativity about you. It may even be spiritual devices that are being fashioned against you. It may be demons of abortion of dreams or whatever disturbance. It may be that of constant sickness or illness at a particular juncture of breakthrough in your life. The Bible speaks in that respect when he says, "no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper" (Isa. 54:17). 

Conspirators have gathered before to bewitch me to be mad. However, it didn't happen. The next day, I saw them and still looked them in the face. We greeted eyeball to eyeball. It was then they knew they were in trouble. So, God is saying, "what is their weapon? What innovation or invention are they bringing to the battlefield this time? What newly developed chariot, horses or mercenaries have they contracted your case to?" He's saying, all those devices and weapons of war put together shall be frustrated or destroyed. God will not have mercy at all. Rather, He'll render ineffectively their enchantment, incantation and sacrifices to bind you. They might mutter words or lick the horn to bring you under their spell but all those devices shall be disappointed. You are born again. Such things don't have a hold any longer on a man whose life is now hidden in Christ. 

It is this disappointment that will make their hands not to be able to perform their enterprise. Let them try, let them attempt, their end is vain labour. I have seen it before they started. Didn't the Bible say, "behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake" (Isa. 54:15, KJV). 

When that verse says, "He [God] frustrates the devices of the crafty so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise ", God was also showing you the end of the crafty over you while reinforcing your victorious position to you again. Do you understand and believe that the end of the crafty over you is that their devices will be frustrated so that their hands will be withheld from achieving their purposes over you? If you do, you have believed right!

PRAYER: I am from above and so I'm above all. I'm above powers and principalities. Instruments of war perish sighting me. I'm an anti-missile myself.
