MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

YEARS AS A TALE THAT'S TOLD

Psalms 90:9, KJV

"For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told."

MotoGP is a premier road-racing championship. These bikes are purpose-built racing machines and can exceed 350 km/h. The bikes lean dramatically around corners on a race circuit, blasting speed and making it away before your eyes in a twinkle.

There's something today's teaching is all about that has to do with spending years in a jiffy and not knowing it has passed. We know that time passes and waits for no one but it can be a curse for someone that time passes on, who retrospects and wonders where his time is.

It means if you have no corresponding achievements for the time you've spent and the age you've hit, you might be disillusioned or confused and wonder how quick you arrived where you are. You'll ask, "how did I get here?" Why? Because you're trying to find a justification for your not having used time to become what the will of God or destiny said you should be.

That's why I'm praying for you that your time, your years will not be as a tale that is told. When something is as a tale that is told, it has no tangibility to it. It has lost all forms or things that could be referenced about his life. That is not different from the life that Methuselah lived (Gen.5:27). His life was as a tale that was told. Why? It passed at a very top speed without any record of any tangibility to show for it that he lived or contributed something solid to God's will.

You see, the breath of God in your nostrils is fuel for you to live life to the fullest on earth. You owe God that breath. Your life must count. When He breathed into Adam and he became a living soul, it was for Adam to serve His will and purpose as the governor of the earth. Where you are, are you just passing time or better still, time is just passing you by? That will be unfortunate if you're not careful, becoming repentant and becoming a judicious user of time. If you're not careful, like a bike in a MotoGP race, you wouldn't know when time will pass you by and you'll be left with only one testimony - "...your years are as a tale that's told."

That's why the Bible says we should walk circumspectly, making use of the time.

"See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:15-16, KJV)

Let me show you one passage that references one's life disappearing in a twinkle and as a tale that's told. It's even easier when that life has no defined purpose or destiny that could be traced to it. Read Proverbs 30:18-19, you'll see the descriptions of certain four wonders. One of them is what the Bible calls, "the way of a serpent on a rock." The Bible says it is mysterious because it leaves little or no trace to say a snake once passed over here. Don't let your life be described to leave no traces by the time you'll be leaving the earth. If it is unfortunately, it'll only be as a tale that is told. It'll lack form and real tangibility. Though we know that all flesh is as grass and that everyone will become history but some people tarry through their works that shall outlive them. They'll constantly be referenced and remembered for their evergreen contributions. Though they are gone, their works will locate them in the present and still count them as living ones.

I pray for you therefore, your years will not be a mockery. Your time will not just be wasted or pass like that without being accounted for. It won't just be as a tale that's told - that somebody visited and has departed with no evidence to remember he visited. I pray for you that you receive wisdom to live fully and productively.

PRAYER: My years will not be a mockery. I live wisely. I am accountable for my years and they are well invested. I have evidence for my living.
