MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO
HE TAKES NOTE TO RESPOND - Emmanuel Series 002
Exodus 2:24, KJV
"And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob."
We began yesterday by examining Jesus' word to John the Baptist. Jesus said amidst many things, "...and the poor have the gospel preached to them."
Matthew 11:5, KJV
"The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them."
This baffles me. These are people who in the disposition of men ought to be left out. No one would have looked to their side. However, God is with them through His spoken word to them. God didn't leave them comfortless. He rather identifies with them.
There's a God in heaven who looks on the weak and vulnerable. He is with them. Look, if you quickly want to stumble or offend God, begin to afflict the poor and powerless. Just begin to misbehave towards them. Collect what is theirs and add it to yours. Become David the king who has many sheep but takes the only one his poor neighbor has and slaughters it for his guest (II Samuel 12:1-9).
Sooner or later, God will send a Nathan to you. Except you're deaf and numb at heart, that's when you'll not identify the Lord when He convicts you or sends His minister to you.
God defends the rights of the poor, afflicted and vulnerable. Why? They are already down. God doesn't want anyone kicking them again. They already have much weighed into their cups to see to. You shouldn't complicate life for them again. And that's exactly the story I have to present today. When Joseph died, a new Pharaoh came up who out of insecurity reduced the Israelites to slaves. They were depraved of free living and the wealth of Egypt and from the height of splendour fell into slavery in a twinkle of an eye. The Bible says, "...and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage" (Exodus 2:23, KJV).
God was so attentive and ready to deliver them that he heard their insignificant sighs and groanings. I guess that should have gone unnoticed or unacknowledged but God heard those tiny sighs they gave off under hard labour. He recognized their pain, the bitterness of their hearts and the need for a deliverer.
Immediately, the Bible comments, "and God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them" (Exodus 2:25, KJV).
Note, "and God looked upon them and had respect unto them." God has seen you too. Things might have been very difficult around you. You probably are the only one trying to make ends meet for your kids or someone might be there complicating the life you should live right now. Irrespective of what circumstance has prostrated you to the floor, may God look down and have respect unto you. The poor are not forlorn. Rather, the gospel is preached to them for their comfort. The Israelites were looked upon and not left to themselves also. You too, you're receiving God's visitation now. God is with you and He'll come through for you.
PRAYER: I am remembered and assisted.
