BEATING WHAT BEATS OTHERS
Mark 1:35, KJV
"And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed."
May God help you to beat what beats others. The man who is free from what entangles and gets others is a wise man and a blessed one for that matter. I pray for you once more, you will beat what beats others. You'll be free of them so that you can float and give attention to what is necessary and are the things of your destiny.
The Bible says, "and in the morning, rising up a great while before day..."
That's it! That's the key! That's Jesus' secret! That's the source of some of His revelation and power! This man by His actions was able to beat a lot of things that beat others. He not only rises but the Bible says He rises a great while before day. If it were our time, Jesus could have set an alarm. Now, let me ask you, what are the things that you beat when you rise a great while before day? You beat the struggles and strivings of people. You beat their distractions and human activities or involvements. Don't you know there's a turmoil of being awake. When the enemy went to sow tares amidst the wheat, when did he do it? The Bible says, "when men slept" (Matt.13:25). If the devil would work and likes to work when his activities will go unchallenged, why should you not learn that wisdom? "A great while before day" still hints at a part of time when men still sleep and when there's absolute quietness for communion with the heavenly Father. At that time, there's no queue at Jesus' door thirsty for healing or seeking to to touch His garment. Once the day breaks and everybody wakes to life, He'll lose that privilege of solitude or quiet time. So, He couldn't risk it. He had to painfully and sacrificially wake up a great while before day.
This is what you beat when you're an early riser. This is what you beat when you're such a dedicated man, given to your work. By the time others wake up, they'll be meeting the distractions of the day which you have escaped. The bustling and rustling will not incapacitate you. While they are begging for quietness, you have spent time when you don't have to exert any external control before you have it. Unfortunately for these late comers, they won't have time enough to give to prayer but rather quickly take their bath and dash out to resume the day's activities. However, not Jesus! Though He also lives in a busy world and in a time where He was the talk of the town and the most popular minister, yet He protected His communion time with God. He knew what the day would look like so He scheduled for a time without interference - "a great while before day."
Keeping that appointment wasn't easy on His flesh but He puts His flesh under. How many people wake up at 5:00am not to talk of 4:00am? How many observe a one hour prayer time or the like that'll make them hear God before departure from home daily? That's a hard thing to do. You may not know it's hard to do unless you become as busy as Jesus. A lot of things might have informed the choice of time Jesus made. Obviously, it's to be ready before the world is ready. That should be your wisdom too. Choose a convenient time. If early morning is not working for you, choose any other time of the day. Your quiet time doesn't have to be in the morning. Learn to beat the world and be ahead of their strivings. Psalm 18:43 talks of being delivered from the strivings and pettiness that catch the masses. Unless there's this setting apart, you cannot carry headship let alone leadership.
A parent in the home setting must beat the whole household and model this truth. He/she can't even afford to be careless when the Bible calls him/her the watchman. Proverbs 31:15 says, "she riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.." Doesn't that fit our context? "...rising also while it is yet night/dark."
The key is, "a great while before day or while it is yet dark?" That's how to have ample time to prepare and plan for the day. Not the one that'll force pressure, forgetfulness and fretting on you because of inadequate preparation for the day. Let me ask you, "have you always been on time or you've been missing time?" A great while before day is meeting time and being on time. You'll be cumbered when the whole house's waking coincides with your moment with God or time of planning. God is discovered in solitude and quietness. That is both the quietness of the heart and surroundings. I'm hearing, "write a programme and let it be a great while before day."
PRAYER: I receive the grace of being on time, beating distractions and learning the power of solitude with God/by myself without distractions.
