MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

OUR DECIDED TIMES - Wherever You Are Series 002

Acts 17:26, KJV

"And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation..."

Today, we shall solely consider a part of the verse above. That is, "and hath determined the times before appointed..."

What does this mean? The famous quote "all the world's a stage" was penned by William Shakespeare. It appears in his play, "As You Like It", specifically in Act 2, Scene 7, where the character Jaques delivers the famous "Seven Ages of Man" speech. The opening lines are:

"All the world's a stage,

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts..."

What does it mean? Shakespeare compares life to a theatrical performance: the world is like a stage. People are like actors. We each enter life (birth), play different roles (child, student, worker, parent, elder) and eventually leave (die). Our roles and responsibilities change as we move through life's different stages.

It remains one of the most quoted passages in English literature because it captures the idea that human life is constantly changing and that everyone has a part to play. If the world is a stage, what does that mean? It means people come and go but the stage remains unchanging. Each and everyone of us had witnessed the passing away of several people. These may include our loved ones. They came, probably saw, probably conquered and then left. In plain words, they died.

But there's something much more interesting. It is that they had their times. God is not a disorderly God. The account of creation reveals Him as a synchronized God of order who does things for certain reasons and especially with foresight.

For instance, take your grandfather, father and yourself as an example. You didn't come at the same time and you're also not even of the same generation. If things run their course naturally, you also will die at different times. Meaning, they'll die earlier than you'll do.

That logical analogy explains that part of the verse we're considering. It says, "and hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, AND HATH DETERMINED THE TIMES BEFORE APPOINTED, and the bounds of their habitation..."

Listen to that! God determined our appointed times. He had taken into consideration our lifetime - when we'll be born (arrive on the stage) and when we'll be deceased (leave the stage). He even numbered years for individuals. That is what we call lifespan. Someone may live for 99 years. That's his lifetime. God knows the times before he was born - time he was born, time he lived or would live and the time he died/would die.

That is a revelation of predestination! We have therefore not come at the wrong time. We are in our time, at the right moment to slay the giants and fulfill the will of God in our generation as David did before sleeping in the Lord.

Acts 13:36, KJV

"For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption..."

You're not a mistake. Your time is in God's hands and He has brought you to the earth for such a time as you live in.

PRAYER: Lord, let me be useful for your purpose while I'm alive. Show me where I fit into your plan.
