INCOMING AIDS

Luke 22:43, KJV

"And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him."

There's something called wear and tear. It is caused by grinding, abrasion or erosion of materials during contact. A cutlass becomes blunt after prolonged use. Every time it cuts the grass, weeds or hit materials like stones, its sharp edge gradually wears off. This is called edge wear or blunting. This is why sharpening is necessary at day's end if it'll continue to eventually function in full capacity.

The Bible says in the verse above that an angel appeared unto Jesus from heaven, strengthening Him.

For us to understand why the strengthening, we need to understand the context that necessitated that "strengthening." Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane. There, He desired Peter, James and John to bear burdens with Him. He was filled with sorrow and groaned in full weight towards His death on the cross. The weight of what would soon happen crushes His soul. Like any human being, Jesus shows the full nature of man by the reluctance he exhibited in bearing the weight of sins of the whole world.

In His words, he says, if it were possible, let this cup pass over me. But not my will but your will. It was at this juncture that an angel came unto Him to strengthen Him. It means the assignment at hand was not an ordinary assignment and for that, He needed help.

"Strengthening" there could be understood to mean "encouragement, stomach or ability for something." It means an impartation of strength or capability. It's like filling something with power in order for it to be able to bear the load or weight that'll be put on him.

Irrespective of which one, an angel came and strengthened Jesus for the work ahead of Him. If Jesus was strengthened, I want to believe you are not self sufficient. It is only a man who's self contained that doesn't need help or assistance. That's why we have self reliant nations and dependent nations. While an interrelationship is important, yet an independent nation differs from a dependent because it has sovereignty and is a major producer of what she needs for life. She's not reliant (or totally reliant on anyone).

Have you heard of aids before? Aids are usually given by developed nations to the underdeveloped. When a nation is in crisis as well, they might need "strengthening." So, aids are usually allocated and distributed to them. Without aid, people may not find relief. Without that external assistance, people may perish, hunger and languish.

It is for this reason we all need strengthening. We need our shield or wall to be made strong. You see, what happened to Jesus here is best portrayed this way. Imagine Jesus as a Roman soldier with a shield on his left hand and a sword on his right hand. Meanwhile, he's both attacking and defending against the enemy at once. The temptation to cast off the assignment given to Him is what He is defending against while attacking and aspiring towards doing the will of the Father. Now, as he defends against the devil and that temptation, envisage his shield reducing in size and quality of strength - to resist and bear future burdens of suffering. That's why that angel came to give Him aid. That's why that angel came to strengthen Him. That's why that angel came to build him up. It's so that His mountain could still stand tall.

I pray for you that you will not diminish until you fall. Rather, you'll be built up. As you're used, so shall you be leveled back and nourished back in Jesus' name.

PRAYER: My mountain is made strong. I am replenished. I am strong because God is mighty.
