MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

YOU'RE NOT BUILT FOR WHAT YOU'RE ATTEMPTING - The Bread For Today Series 004

Matthew 6:31, KJV

"Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?"

Have you heard of the term, "data centre" before? Do you know what purposes it serves? A data centre is the digital infrastructure that powers much of modern life. Just as power stations provide electricity and roads move goods, data centres provide the computing power and storage that keeps today's digital world running. Nigeria and every country you know has one/many. Now, take all the information of institutions and that of over 240 million people in Nigeria and try to put it in a card with 10 Gigabyte memory. What do you think you'll get? It simply won't work. Even if all that information is successfully transferred, they'll eventually crash that memory card. Why? That card is too limited for what it wants to contain. It's not built to handle that much pressure/storage.

That's the exact thing happening to many of us. You're taking concerns for what only God should handle. What some people are carrying as weights and burdens, only God ought to concern Himself with such. The verses before the one we read for the day notes that God even concerns Himself with birds and mere plants, sustaining them beautifully. Are you built for that? Were you the one who created all the living things, distributed them into their natural habitats and see to their continuous living, including nutrition? Has the lion ever rung you to ask for food from you before? God takes care of all that. He ensures existence continues in the wild. Despite that, he assumes your responsibility as His. He didn't deny you. He's only saying if He so much cares for plants and animals, won't He care for you?

However, it seems the revelation in that verse hasn't hit you over these years. You aren't seeing God as the Almighty. Rather, you've been taking His place. You can't take His place and not crash. The reason is because you're not built to begin to handle and process that much information for days/years to come in worry, anxiety and fear. Assuredly, if you continue like this, your blood pressure will rise and endanger you. When Jesus teaches us to pray by saying, "give us this day our daily bread", He is trying to fight the incessant pursuit of worldly needful things to the prioritizing of God and trusting in Him. You can't take your attention from living daily to wanting to live in bulk and not carry much than you're built for. You'll simply be endangering your health which God wants to protect by admonishing that even as you work, don't over stretch because it's only required of you to live daily. Greediness is what has shifted the goal post and that's why people keep aspiring more than it's measured unto them daily. As a matter of fact, that's why many people are not fulfilling their own very call. It's because they've been distracted to chase what some are chasing in fierce competition. I'm hearing again, "take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

If you refuse to let the problem of the day be sufficient for that day but rather accumulate coming days, you simply risk crashing. Why? You're human. You're built to live daily. That's why you eat daily, bathe daily and breathe daily. You cannot be too careful or covetous as to eat the food for six months in a day. Jesus is not telling us not to plan. Elsewhere the Bible commends wise planning (Proverbs 21:5). Rather, He is telling us not to be anxious about the future. Stop adding tomorrow's imagined problems to today's real ones. God gives us grace for each day. When tomorrow comes, the grace for it will be allocated. Suppose today you have enough money for today's meals, but you begin worrying, "what if I lose my job next year?" "What if I become sick?" "What if prices keep rising?" Those concerns may or may not happen. By dwelling on them today, you rob yourself of today's peace without actually solving tomorrow's problems. Brethren, enter into rest if you don't want to crash your frail memory and frame. Let each day be sufficient for its own challenges. When your hands are too full, everything can slip or snap. Don't break please.

PRAYER: Teach me the revelation of the life you've ordained for me and how it's different from the many races of other people. Teach me contentment and containment in You!
