SEE THE PRINCIPLE GOD IS TEACHING US - The Bread For Today Series 003
Luke 11:3, KJV
"Give us day by day our daily bread."
You see, I think we need to understand Jesus' prayer anew. When Jesus says, "give us this day our daily bread", He is trying to lay down a principle by which Christians should operate or live by.
If you are ignorant of this, you may beat yourself too much or be given to mere pursuing of things. "Is life not more than bread and the body more than raiment", the Bible says (Matt.6:25)? You know, I once narrated how I prayed to God that I should not experience miracles anymore in my life. The Lord told me, that's only possible when you're dead. As for a living soul, he will need miracles upon miracles to keep living. Some of you atheists might think God has not contributed to your sustenance because you owe no allegiance to Him or due to not seeing his hand visibly. However, do you know what invisible miracle the giver of life has done for you that you aren't aware of? Have you ever been pulled out of situations that made you wonder how you escaped? When it's unimaginable, defying human explanation, that may be God in your life.
God told me, once you're still in this body, you'll need what I have to give even if you do not acknowledge Me for it. Isn't that why Psalm 91:16 says, "with long life will I satisfy you and show you my salvation." There cannot be long life for anyone without the constant intervention of God in providing us with salvation (in this case, deliverance from our troubles). Isn't that why David says God is his hope maker who redeems him when he should have died on his mother's breasts? (Psalm 22:9-10). Many things will make attempts at ruining us but we need the help or ministration the Lord has to give if we'll ever continue.
All those deliverances of the Lord are necessary because of the troubles that can't but come on us. If the Lord sees that you might fall into the hands of scammers, he might just nudge you towards taking an action that'll prevent it from happening. That's God's salvation you're experiencing. That's God giving you daily bread that day where it is critical for your life. If God had not appeared and you had lost your hard earned money, you'll see that even if you had food at home, you won't delight in eating it. You'll just be depressed and weak.
So, it's a principle God is laying down when Jesus says, "when you pray, say, ...give us today our daily bread." It means the exclusive bread for each day, each hour and moment you may enter into is with God. God is constantly manufacturing remedies and helps that will solely fit your situations or needs. Since your problems and life's issues are always changing and advancing, only God could keep pace with them by proffering the solutions that can rightly contain them. No matter how worrisome you are over your needs, you cannot be as responsible as God who said trust me daily for everything that concerns you. Let's take the year 2030 for instance. Do you know what you'll specifically need on July 28th of that year at exactly 3:00pm? You cannot fathom what mess you'll likely be in or what fortune you'll need a specific wisdom to handle. Only God knows. Only He could give you a tailor fitted help at the right hour. So, go and sleep. Place your cares in God's hands. When worried, rather with prayer and supplication with thanksgiving bring all that concerns you to Him and you'll see His hands move (Phil.4:6).
PRAYER: My soul, rest in Jesus' assurance of meeting your needs daily. Stop seeking what has not been given. You already have enough for the day. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.
