OUR DAILY BREAD - The Bread For Today Series 001
Luke 11:3, KJV
"Give us day by day our daily bread."
Do you know there are a number of things we do daily that we do not count as rigorous? We even see the necessity in them and know for sure the consequences that await not doing them daily. From maintaining personal hygiene to nutrition, they're all daily businesses.
Why day by day? Why not a once in a while thing? Also, why does that prayer say, "give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11)? Why not, "give us today the bread or deposit for the year?"
God is full of wisdom. God simply wants to teach trust and obey. He's teaching us a life of constant trust in His ability to meet all our needs; be it provision, protection, good health, employment or whatever. I tell you, that's when we can appreciate those gifts.
God doesn't want us to get into fret mode where the cares of this world occupy us to the extent that we keep the food of ten years to come which may let our heart slip into self confidence instead of staying on the Lord. That's the mistake that certain rich man made when he says, "and I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry" (Luke 12:19, KJV). He had an abundance that deceived him into declaring independence from God.
In this kingdom, even if you have a store house of goods, God doesn't want you to put your reliance or confidence in it. He wants your gazes to still be on Him to provide and meet all your needs. That's why Psalm 23:1 says, "the Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want." Why you will not want or get to that juncture of being incessantly needy over a particular thing is because the Lord would have come early to meet your needs. When you see people who cannot release or give their store houses out when the Lord requests for it; it's simply because it's in that they put their trust (not in the Lord providing for them).
That place says, "give us this day our daily bread." It means there's bread for today that may differ from what God wants to give tomorrow. God offers a balanced diet in provision/care. That's why He's saying, come to a place of trusting me for your daily bread. If you want to keep a store house of provision, no matter how hard you strive, you cannot have stores that can afford variegated goods like I offer. If you can give yourself food, can you give yourself the needed strength, protection, good health or wisdom for the day.
Rather, trust in Me to allocate to you as you will need daily and as I will see fit. When you wake up in a day, I see and know the challenges before you. Better than your preparation, I can arm you for that day. I can give you knowledge or wisdom to respond to what could have trapped you or ended your life.
What you must know is that, "daily bread" goes beyond physical food. That's just a part of the "daily bread" that Jesus' prayer teaches. "Daily bread" however is the variegated resource that will be released to you as you'll need daily or per time. You know there's a place Jesus says, "...but when they arrest you and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand, or premeditate what you will speak. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit" (Mark 13:11, NKJV)
Being given what to say at the hour of need may be the daily bread for someone who doesn't know how to answer yet needs to give a response. Today, the Lord will not starve you. At every juncture of your life, you'll have your allocation released to you. You will not shrink or suffer left and right because of the denial of daily bread. Before you look up, you will have answers. You will not gaze around to no avail.
PRAYER: My allocation is released to me. All the resources I need for life and godliness are descended to me at my point of needs. No carry over in God's will.
