THE KING THAT KNEW VERY LATE - Escaping Vain Labour Series 004

II Samuel 12:16, (KJV)

"David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth."

May you not do vain labour. This is another brother that exerts effort and pity over what God ordains to die. May you see and understand once and for all. 

May it not be you fighting for a life that is the will of God calling it to come home. If you've been sleeping in ignorance, may the Lord sting you to realize the situation that is beyond salvage or redemption. 

Wasted labour is bad! You can only comfort yourself with, "at least, I tried." Deep down, you'll battle with the pain of wasted time without results.

Prophet Nathan confronts David over his sin of sleeping and birthing a child through Bathsheba, Uriah's wife. Worst of all, to hide his sin, David kills Uriah in the most unfaithful and unworthy way fit for a leader who should protect his subjects. God sees this evil and He goes on rage. God's response is Nathan declaring judgement on David - one of which is the death of the baby. 

II Samuel 12:14, KJV

"Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die."

David is a struggler. He will not agree. He immediately goes into battle mode. He thought he could change or sway God with his fast, worship and prayers. Meanwhile, God's mind is made up.

But guess what, the struggle and contest lasted seven days. David would not agree with God as a fiery debater that he was.  

II Samuel 12:18, KJV

"And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?"

The Bible makes it clear that he didn't stop fighting this losing battle until he perceived and had confirmed the child's death. It was then he rose, bathed, changed his apparel, ate and went to worship God - continuing normal daily life. 

He exerted vain labour for seven good days. Look at how long he tarried in vain labour. Yesterday, we saw Jesus' parents going a day's journey before discovering Jesus was left behind. What do you have to say of David whose was seven days before he saw he could do nothing really? May you not be this stupid. May you not walk into foolishness saying there's an iota of wisdom there. May you recognize what cannot prosper and what cannot be straightened or recovered out of their crookedness. May you see the end from the beginning. God often do declare the end from the beginning (Isa. 46:10). May you take such a declaration as your rudder. When others are confused, may you decisively tell them God's will. May you not be one of those who's also shrouded in mystery. May you be as clear and bold as brother Paul (Acts 27:22-25).

PRAYER: I have light. I see the end from the beginning. I'm not as the world. I know which way to turn.
