GIVE DUE DILIGENCE NOW! - Escaping Vain Labour Series 002
Luke 2:44, KJV
"But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance."
There's a reason why you have to give due diligence now that you haven't walked a day's journey. If you gloss over what you should do or the kind of life that you should be apprenticed to, you might need to come back to it when necessity is laid on you. You may not want to return but necessity has a way of compelling everybody.
At twelve years of age, Jesus' family takes him for the feast in Jerusalem. As typical of people in that world, they usually travel in companies, especially amidst relatives, friends or closely knitted ones. That's why His parents presumptuously thought he was amidst the masses. The Bible says, "and when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it" (Luke 2:43, KJV). "...but, why would a young chap refuse going home with his beloved family and why would his parents not know of it?" That looks odd to anybody's mind until it happens to one family that we shall see.
You see, not knowing will not excuse you from retracing your steps back to what you should have done but which was left undone. Ignorance will not give you any ground to be justified which is why you must check on every occasion that you're constantly in God's will for your life. The question is, "on this matter, have I checked thoroughly? Have I confirmed everything I hold unto or supposed to be truth indeed?"
It would have been okay if they hadn't gone too far. Turning back would not be too tedious and they wouldn't have missed the company of their friends and acquaintances. However, the Bible says they already went a day's journey.
Luke 2:44-45, KJV
"44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him."
May you not discover very late! May you know things early! For them, they already did vain labour for having gone on a day's journey without the package that should have journeyed with them. How could a parent forget their own child in a place they visited for pilgrimage?
You see, presumptuousness is dangerous. It makes you repeat classes after the discovery of the truth or what should really have been done. It would have been better for them not having left Jerusalem than leaving without Jesus. Necessity now gets laid on them to return after a painful trekking or journeying. As if that hurt was not enough, no one turned back with them to correct what they didn't do right. Only they had to do that solitarily and alone. Look, you'll pay for your foolishness by yourself in full weights. You may not be bailed out.
Let me tell you something. This may be your fate if you don't give due diligence to be in the right placements in life. Are you sure as it is that you're on the right vocation? Are you sure that you've been correctly set into the body of Christ through the local church you've joined? Do you have unshakeable assurance that your choices are the correct ones or upon discovery, there'll be a need for a reversal, scattering and tearing down of all you have built? Jesus' parents were operating in an assumption and a lie - that Jesus was in their company. They never doubted that or stopped early to affirm the truth. When they knew, a day's journey had passed over them. This is a call to raise and build things in honesty and truth from the beginning. Set things straight from the start. Don't embark on a journey that's void of Jesus except you're ready to pay with the sacrifice of going back to carry Him along later. Always go with Him! Journey with Him and let Him be amidst you and in your company!
PRAYER: I banish the spirit of assumption and presumption away from my life. I am thorough, living by the evidence obtained and not falsehoods.
