THE GENERATION THAT SEEK THE LORD - Thirsty In A Dry Land Series 005

Psalms 24:6, KJV

"This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah."

Yesterday, I hinted at the fact that there are two types of people. The Marys and the Marthas. The Marys tarry. They want to hear the new thing that the Lord has to say from the Master. They are excited by the words of His mouth. They live by it (Matt.4:4) and have exalted what He says more than their daily necessary meat (Job 23:12). They are not different from the many curious people who rush to Mars' Hill to hear the latest that's to be discussed (Acts 17:21).

That shows appreciation for knowledge. In our case, ours shows appreciation and love for God's presence. While Marthas are distracted by food and to food, Marys can fast and for the moment jettison pleasure to listen to what the Spirit has to say to the church.

The Psalm we have to consider today is best understood by starting your reading from verses 1-5. It was after that we met, "this is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah."

Before then, some characteristics that qualify the species of people that seek the Lord had been mentioned. For short, this Psalm identifies a truth. There's a set of people, a category; the Bible calls them, "a generation" that seeks the Lord.

That immediately means it is not everybody who has been found to seek the Lord. If there is a generation or category that fulfills certain standards and qualifies to seek the Lord or to spread holy hands before Him, it means those without those prerequisites are out of contest. Even amidst believers, there are seekers and non-seekers. There are those who seek God's face and those who seek God's hands. You're likely one of the two.

God is asking, "are you of the generation that seeks the Lord? Is your family, household, team, school, institution, church, fellowship or group the people or generation that seeks the Lord? It's God's intention to have you numbered here and not elsewhere. God's purpose is that you'll not be found replacing the glory of God for the images of what's not alive (Romans 1:22-25). Therefore, you must be of the people (generation or category) that seeks the Lord. When others have backslided and are weary, you must separate yourself and beg to differ. You must be of the seed that seeks the Lord still. You must never be found amidst the dead. When Jesus' women disciples rushed to the tomb seeking Him; the angels they saw said, "He is not here, He is risen. Why seek the living amidst the dead (Luke 24:4-6)?"

Even if you're in Europe or any other centre of sin or hardship as your own case may be, your testimony should still be, "you're the generation of them that seek Him, that seek His face, O God of Jacob."

May you be this constant in and out seasons. May your feet be planted in God's house. May you be of this particular species and generation of seekers. May you be a Joshua who says he and his house will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). May God testify of you like He did of Abraham that you'll command your kids after you (Gen.18:19). May you be counted amidst the generation of people that seek the Lord. That's the goal! That's the ultimate prize. Not those who seek booze, booties or worldly gains only. Say with me, "I am of the generation of those that seek the Lord. I am tied to Him and I am His."

PRAYER/CONFESSION: I (mention your name or household) am of the generation that seeks the Lord.
