NAKEDNESS THAT NEED NOT TO BE ASHAMED - My Priority Has Changed Series 003

Genesis 2:25, KJV

"And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."

May you not enter the wrong marriage! May you not enter a marriage where you can't touch or use what your partner owns or where you don't know how much they earn, their accounts' passwords and deep ongoing things about them. It is not because you don't want to know but because your partner may be like someone still resuscitating from a trauma. What do I mean? Do you know there are children who have watched one of their parents suffer for his/her faithfulness and openness in marriage? Eventually, they made a decision that they'll run their finances separate from their partner's. It may not even be their parents. It could be a sibling, uncle or aunt who got married before them. They might have made the wrong judgement or be wrongly fed with an error/assumption or even the truth on how one partner became the 'slave' of the other. Irrespective of which, that's why the Bible says in I Thessalonians 5:21, "prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (KJV). It means if it is not good or consumable, drop it. Even when it is consumable (though poison) but not healthy, drop it. Don't believe or act on it.

Search all around for partners who have trust issues in marriage and are unnecessarily afraid. You'll in the long run see that it's not because their partner committed adultery (which a Christian can even by grace choose to forgive) but which I'm not preaching to condone but rather because they've been fed stories by friends or colleagues at work of how a lady's husband they know eventually betrayed her. Now, guess what they're guarding against...marital betrayal! It would have been better staying unmarried rather than creating a tense life for your other partner.

So, they become independent, rigid, iron ladies or men. Yet, they are married. The Bible didn't say a married person should be independent of his/her spouse but their own condition made them so. Instead of needing the other, that trauma, pride, inferiority complex or the wrong teaching they have believed would make them fight against dependency. They'll tell you, "I am a self contained!" As a matter of fact, such people see being dependent or needing their spouse for something as a weakness.

I can assure you that you're not in a marriage but in a jail. You're even serving a jail term in the prison of your own mind. You have believed the wrong teachings from people. Fear of being betrayed or being alone at old age or at critical times is hindering you from working the principle of, "and they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed."

Have you not heard stories where one of the partners built a whole house without the other knowing? I'm not talking about buying a house or a car and wanting to use it to surprise your spouse. There's a huge difference between the two. The intention made it so. One is to hide it and let it remain undisclosed. The other is to make happy or celebrate your partner. However, the Bible scatters that plan when it says, "there's nothing hidden that'll not be revealed" (Luke 8:17).

In some families, it is the betrayed parent who called his daughter or son and counselled him/her never to fully trust her husband or his wife? So, you'll hear things like, invest and have something he/she will never know about in case the twig breaks and the bird flies away.

This has been a reason why some homes are in fiery turbulence. The intention of God however is that in every matter of life, both of them will be naked to themselves. That includes being open with mistakes committed in that marriage but without the knowing of the other partner. Or, are you telling me if you committed adultery in your marriage, you'll carry it in your heart without confessing your sin to your partner? I know your fear but that should be done under a pastoral counsel. See the pastor of your local church or a reputable person/people your partner respects. It'll be painful and may be forgivable by them but you need to free your heart. If you're in such a mess and you're a Christian, you'll observe you'll have no rest. That withdrawal of peace is coming from God so that you'll confess and immediately begin to prosper even if that'll eventually lead to the end of that marriage when your partner cannot forgive.

The testimony we read of Adam and Eve was that there's no hiding place or dark corners between them. Rather, the man and the woman were both naked.

May we not backslide into worldly wisdom that's disguised and called God's wisdom or security. May we have a Christian home through and through.

PRAYER: God give us Christian homes.
