BED TIME REMEMBRANCE

AS YOU GO TO BED, REMEMBER!

Psalms 4:8, KJV

"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety."

Even when caught in a cross fire or found where insecurity is really prevalent, this is your scripture.

You will lay down in peace and sleep for only God makes you dwell in safety.

You'll sleep and put your mind to rest because your assurance is in God who guarantees your safety. It's His work.

Its part B says:

Psalms 3:5, KJV

"I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me."

Even after sleeping, we wake because the Lord by Himself sustains us. Those who are not sustained can travel and not return. They may sleep and not wake up. They might get attacked and not overcome in their sleep (even from the spirit world). That's when brethren would say, "they didn't receive grace." But ours is different. God is its doer and proofs that we sleep and wake up due to God sustaining us.

We could have done nothing of our own.

Mark the word, "sustain." It means to maintain or keep in existence. Just like a human shepherd or Fulani herdsman see to the sustenance of his cattle, God calls Himself our sustainer also.

We can put many measures in place for our security. We may build a fence round our house and barbwire it, ensure the compound is well lit in the night to deter burglars and robbers, store and tuck away ladder and other gardening tools that the malevolent may leverage as handles and weapons in accessing our privacy.

We may even go the extra mile of installing CCTV cameras.

You may even keep a pistol under your pillow or a machete within arm's length.

You see, security condition might have deteriorated so gravely to that extent where you are.

All will be in vain if the Lord does not make you dwell in safety or sustain you to see the next day.

It'll be like building a house that the Lord is not building and watching over a city that the Lord isn't its watchman.

Psalms 127:1, KJV

"Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain."

Your own assurance is that God is both your builder and your watchman. He sees to what concerns you!

Say, "He sees to what concerns me!"

When sustained however also talks of equipping.

It's like making preparation for a journey and you'll agree with me that sleeping in the night is like a long journey. We only have stop overs usually during peeing moments.

You indeed need sustenance on that journey. If not, you may be impoverished on the way. If not, you may journey and not reach destination (but God forbid).

That's why the Lord is our sustainer. Even on the way (in our sleep), when we are inadequate or know nothing, He sustains us. Isn't that why the Bible says, "the angel of the Lord encamps round those who fear him and deliver them [from all their troubles] (Psalm 34:7).

People... you are the house God is building and the city He's watching.

Go to sleep! Nothing dey 'sup.

See you tomorrow!

M'Wings.
