FEELING HIS ABSENCE

Psalms 22:1, KJV

"My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?"

Have you ever been forsaken before? Take for instance a child who's being dropped in school on her first day. How would she feel? She'll feel forsaken. She wouldn't want to stay. She would want to go back with you. She's not used to those stand-in parents. She'll therefore cry for you.

However, you have to smother your emotions to let her be. That happened to Jesus. There was a time God had to let Him be. God had to let Him learn obedience by the things He suffered. That time wasn't good on Jesus. He Himself felt what it meant to be forsaken or jettisoned. He knew what it meant to pray and have God turned deaf ears to it. All for the redemption of humanity.

Jesus cried, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" (Mark 15:34).

"My God, my God" shows He has a personal relationship with God, the Father. God is His God - His Father. But now, Jesus is crying and lamenting the absence of His Father. Like I said yesterday, once the Lord withdraws, you'll feel His absence. When the Spirit left Samson, though presumptuous, yet he couldn't perform like before. He therefore became touchable.

"Why hast thou forsaken me?" This is a deep, painful and desirous lamentation to have God near. When what you expect isn't falling through, you may raise a roar even like Jesus wondering why you've been forsaken. This shows how important the God factor is to us. We are feeble and easily breakable without Him.

And indeed, we can't do life alone. We need the fourth man in the furnace to join us. We need the accompaniment of the Holy Spirit. Else, we also might cry, "my God, my God, why hast you forsaken me?"

When you need God, may He be near. May we not be forsaken. Samson knows this and pleads with God to return to him and strengthen him that once. He used to know how it felt being with the Lord but it had been awhile since he felt or experienced Him. In short, the Lord was rare to come by. The Lord had left him at the moment he needed God because of his own disobedience. May your own disobedience not cost you. May the Lord not be far from you and you from the Lord. When you cry, may He hear your voice and grant you deliverance from on high.

PRAYER: Close to Thee Lord. No wandering from You. At the moment of silence, may I not sink.
