MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO
I AM WEAK BUT THOU ART MIGHTY
Judges 16:28, KJV
"And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes."
This verse brings a renewed memory of William Williams' hymn to my mind.
"Guide me, O my great Redeemer,
Pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but you are mighty;
Hold me with your powerful hand.
Bread of heaven, bread of heaven,
Feed me now and evermore..."
What is it like to be surrounded by the enemy? What is it like to stay and live in weakness? What is it to have the Holy Spirit out of one's life? What is it to be natural instead of being supernatural? What is it to have become impotent and disarmed instead of being effective and dangerous?
One at such time becomes a toy on the playground of the enemy. Samson actually gets here.
Judges 16:25, KJV
"And it came to pass, when their hearts were merry, that they said, Call for Samson, that he may make us sport. And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport: and they set him between the pillars."
Did you see that? How are the mighty fallen? How's Samson reduced to a mere comedian? How's Samson made nonsense of? Here's a hero and fighter who strikes fear to the enemy's heart. Now, he's an object of derision.
I guess he himself reaches a place of disgust and embarrassment. A place where he experiences his own devaluation first hand. He concurs that it's better to be Samson, the conqueror than the victim. The experience of Samson is such a fall from grace and he would desire not to have his life ended in disgrace. He would want revenge at least!
So, he returns to God. He'll rather crouch at God's doorsteps and trust to defy the enemy. On this note, Samson pleads that God will strengthen him once more. How true this is?
"We are weak but God is mighty." He needs to hold us with His mighty hand. We need to be armed. Weakness can do nothing. The arm of flesh will forever remain feeble. It can only appeal to the flesh, not the spirit. Weakness cannot do the work of the spirit. You need to be armed. You need to be clothed. You need to be wrapped and enveloped by a power greater than you.
Samson knows what it means to seek for strength. He knows he doesn't have that to give. He knows whence it comes from and now he has turned there. Strength can make you run and not weary. When you are strengthened, you actually super-perform. A man that is strengthened is he who could go the extra mile. A man that is strengthened is he who could run with chariots and outrun it. How? Because God's hand has come on him (I Kings 18:46).
When you're strengthened, you're inoculated to out perform. God's anointing is a strength enhancer. Where have you lost the anointing? May you be replenished this morning. May your cup be filled to its brim. May weakness disappear from your spirit, soul and body. May you become active and potent where you've been weak and incapacitated. May strength frees you into God's glorious liberty of performing.
Are you sick or diseased? Are you hindered one way or the other from mobility? I declare, "receive strength!" Walk and begin to do everything that you couldn't do before.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord for strengthening me. Thank you for the ability and new capacities.
