MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO
A LONG HOLIDAY WITHOUT HIM
Judges 16:20, KJV
"And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him."
How many of you have been on a long holiday without the Holy Spirit? You may not know what it means to be without the Holy Spirit until you are out of tune or relationship with Him. When you have suffered lack of intimacy, guidance or the leading that he offers and the joy that he gives to keep you going when things are rugged, you'll then esteem for once why it's very very important not to be missing in relationship/fellowship with God.
What can we do without him? The Bible says, "in him we move, live and have our being"(Acts 17:28). If it's in him all things consist but he's no longer available to keep it together, don't you think losing it will step in.
Asking Samson would do. Samson can tell us why we must not lose God. Samson can offer us pages of admonishments and the dangers that follow losing the Holy Spirit. You literally are alone! When the Spirit leaves you and you're alone, only then could you appreciate the Lord for His works in you and with you while your relationship persists with Him.
When relationship is broken or fellowship is not consistent and you don't feel or sense the Lord as usual, you may be having a taste of what it means being without the Lord (not because he is still not yours). It may just be that he is silent. It is not good if the Lord leaves any man even for a minute. Even Jesus cried, "why hast thou forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46). I tell you that you're vulnerable and could be exploited for that minute. If he leaves, you lose a defence and your personal encourager.
No wonder Samson prayed that the Lord would return to him once more. He prayed earnestly because he had learnt by experience what it meant to have gone without God being on one's side. One basically becomes a 'sportsman' - a toiling or mocking object. It's like a man of skills who has now lost all his skills. He can't but be taken for granted and used for less honourable things. It's unfortunate when salt loses its savour. The Bible says it is no longer useful but to be trodden of men or disposed of. Samson tasted this first hand as he grounded in the mills and ran useless errands only meant for puppets but which are now forced on him because he has lost the anointing. He therefore prayed earnestly. You could see his yearnings in that request of his.
Judges 16:28, KJV
"And Samson called unto the LORD, and said, O Lord God, remember me, I pray thee, and strengthen me, I pray thee, only this once, O God, that I may be at once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes."
Only at such times can you appreciate what it means for the Lord to be with you twenty four hours. Losing Him or a sense of Him gives nobody assurance but rather makes a vulnerable man or woman. On this note, seek to always have the Lord close. Let nothing affect your relationship with Him. Let fellowship be intimate, daily and often and the Lord will be close always and always. I pray for God's return to you. Where have you lost the Holy Spirit, as you ask for God's mercy and seek His face, you're also having His return now. May the Lord strengthen you once again.
PRAYER: Lord, strengthen me once again. I am weak but thou art mighty.
