MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL - Olusola & Oreoluwa ADEJUMO

HOW CHANGE OF ATTITUDE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE

Matthew 24:38, KJV

"For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark"

I read of a city that was submerged. The city is actually in a valley and surrounded by mountains of ice/glaciers.

Prior to its melting, certain climbers or scientists who came around there had observed a crack in the mountain. They had warned the citizens. Their warnings even made papers. However, the government overseeing that province shut it all down. Everybody was cooled down and therefore slipped back to their normal businesses as if nothing would happen.

The day something was to happen, it started with an earthquake. After the citizens survived the earthquake, they would never have believed that something terrible was yet to come. It was the mountain. The mountain gave way and the ice began to melt and move like a mighty flood towards their city.

At day's end, the entire city had been submerged in a caked ground. Thousands had lost their lives - buried forever in the sand of time. Only a handful of people survived who were able to reach for a high ground.

What am I saying? Before any catastrophic, cataclysmic or rapturing event, there is usually a warning. The warning is not to scare anybody. It is rather to prepare the people so that they can escape the destruction or danger to come. A crack in the mountain foreshadows the evil that would soon be unleashed. Only the wise could see through that lens and hid himself from the coming danger. God is full of mercies. He will always leave us with witnesses. He doesn't forlorn His people. He will always send them a prophet. He will always blow the trumpet in their ears. He will send them warnings - even for their preparation.

That's the case with Noah and his world. God announces the plan to destroy the then world but he sure made it known. Nobody was not in the know because Noah didn't keep the information to himself. He sounded what God said would happen. The Bible noting what he did said, "Noah moved with fear to the saving of his family..." (Heb. 11:7).

Do you know what that means? Despite the warning, despite seeing Noah and his family labouring for years to build an ark for the long predicted rain/flood, nothing changed in the attitude of the masses. While Noah moved with fear, they were complacent. They continued in business as usual.

That's what today's verse explains. It says, "...they were drinking and eating; marrying and giving out in marriage." That means there was no change of attitude in them despite that alarming announcement made by Noah. You probably would have thought that even one person outside Noah's family would make it. However, none made it. All of them were mockers. None moved with fear to the saving of his life or his own household. None had a rethink. All of them have all gone astray. They were rather full of the cares of their times. What they should mind, they actually didn't mind.

Rather, they were busy marrying and giving out in marriage. Nobody puts in preparation or think towards escaping the coming flood. Rather, they continued in usual businesses that would soon expire. They gave priority to the wrong things and paid dearly for it.

My brethren, in like manner, God will come to you especially in these last days. Before anything hits the world, God owes you information especially as you maintain close fellowship and walk with Him. Economic depressions, wars, pestilence, striving of people, famine etc that'll still take the world are likely things that many people will perish in. Having information before hand on evils that'll befall the earth is enough assistance to help you put preparation in place.

What God is calling for is a change of attitude in people today. God wants us to be people who hears once and obey twice. God doesn't want us to disobey, dishonour and violate warnings. He wants our attitude to change like Noah's who moved with fear to the saving of his household when God broke the news of the coming flood to him. People, it is time to hear what the Spirit is saying if you'll ever survive the days to come and not suddenly pass away in the sand of time like those disobedient and unalarmed and at alert people.

PRAYER: I am sensitive to my time and whatever times I shall enter into. I shall move with fear (reverence for the Lord) when He speaks to me. I obey; I do not violate.
