LIFE AND LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY - Life More Abundantly Series 006
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
God doesn't want to keep us in any guess work. So, He does a quick analysis of what the devil came to do on earth for us - "But for to steal, to kill and to destroy."
Whatever he does or manifests as is encapsulated in these three. In contrast, Jesus says, "I have come that they might have life and have it more abundantly."
This is where Jesus is the Good Shepherd. It is the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep. He that is an hireling who sees the wolf coming and flees is not the Good Shepherd. Only Jesus came to sacrifice for humanity and the sacrifice is Himself - the release of Himself so that we might have life (spiritual life and have it abundantly in overflow) (John 3:16).
You know, it would have been okay if that place says, "That they might have life..." and then stops. However, it continues and gives everyone who'll receive Jesus into their lives a better promise which is not only to have life (salvation) but to have salvation (life) more abundantly manifesting in all the things that salvation or the new life will bring into their lives as they receive Jesus.
Peter while speaking to the people on Pentecost says, "For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call" (Acts 2:39, KJV).
"What promise", we should ask? It may be obvious that it is the promise of the Holy Spirit but there's sure an entry into it. Without salvation, no one could have the Holy Spirit. That's why Peter earlier said, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit - a means to a more abundant life in God doesn't happen unless a man first of all repent of his sins, confesses and receives Jesus as Lord.
The gateway to "life and life more abundantly" is salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." Jesus is the gateway to life and life more abundantly. Life more abundantly signals every enjoyment in Christ. It means apart from your spirit being illuminated and made alive to now fellowship with God, you now possess other benefits of salvation - that is, the life more abundantly. God's plan is that you'll have His life and that the life will burst forth to overflow in you. Not a restricted life but one that lives rejoicingly always. That's what the Holy Spirit and other instruments of life more abundantly like the fruits of the Spirit in you would help you achieve.
You're not only receiving life but life more abundantly. That's the greater promise and your end in Christ.
PRAYER: Wherever life and life more abundantly has been restricted in me, I pray, be unblocked to the rejoicing of my spirit and soul.
