A CONTRASTING MINISTRY - Life More Abundantly Series 007
"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."
While the devil comes in order to see that every human being has a diminished life (an unfulfilled life), Christ comes to see to it that anyone who receives Him has "the more abundant life." That's the elasticity of His promise to us. The more abundant life is the bustling life. Think of a cup filled to overflow. Water is not only contained in such a cup but it sheds off. When Jesus talks of giving life and a more abundant life, it means giving and having life to the fullest. A "life" is not full that only receives life but doesn't have what could service the received life to sustenance.
The Holy Spirit is bringing a verse and a story to my mind. Do you remember Jesus and the Samaritan woman? Jesus used a particular word that I'd like us to consider.
"13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
What I want to draw your attention to is the second verse that says, "But the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into eternal life." Underline the clause, "Well of water springing up to eternal life..."
You're not only given life but the life you're given becomes a generator of continuous life/living inside you. It becomes an independent self generating life. It becomes a self sustaining life. It becomes a life that brings good things forth out of his good treasure so that it might minister the same to himself and to his world.
We all know what a well of water is. A well of water springs from the earth and produces water after water irrespective of how much is fetched from it. Rather, water keeps springing up. That's the kind of life that place is speaking about. It means once you have that life, you receive God's engine as inspiration. It is that bubbling or ever springing that'll make you fertile, robust, active, joyous and full of strength. All these things are the byproducts of having had life and having life more abundantly. You won't lack vitality. Continually, you'll be springing, yielding, bringing up and giving off.
When it says, "to eternal life", it doesn't only mean "life that happens after death" but rather that starts now through intimacy with God on a daily basis. This is the life and life more abundantly. This is when you not only have the initial deposit but also have its fruits and offsprings. What a blessed life that is. An active, rich, living and self renewing spiritual life. It not only overflows now but it'll continue after death. This life gives the soul thorough satisfaction, leading to contentment that's uncommon. It will give you guaranteed peace and security when others fret and shiver. Rather, you'll be like Mount Zion which cannot be moved but abides forever. All these are the offspring of having had life and life more abundantly. Those are the offspring of "life more abundantly." A life that doesn't rely on external things or factors to determine his joy or fulfillment. It is internally satiated and fulfilled daily. Don't forget that it is, "the water given to that life that'll become in him a well of water welling to eternal life." That water is God's life impacted into a man's spirit.
It is only this kind of life that can be called a life with, "life and life more abundantly." This is what any who gets born again is assured of in Christ. How sweet it is to us and to many that shall repent and be born again in Christ.
PRAYER/CONFESSION: I have space in me. Let the life of Christ bubble and rejoice in me. Take more space, Christ's life in me.
