A FULFILMENT: A PEEP INTO SAMSON - One Alone Series 005

Judges 16:20, KJV

"And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him."

As the Holy Spirit was ending yesterday's devotional, He gave us a parting word and I quote, "we must know that except their Rock sells them, one cannot chase a thousand and two put ten thousand to flight" (Deut.32:30).

This verse of the Bible found fulfillment in Samson. He's the one we're seeing and peeping into today.

You remember for years, Samson was elusive for the Philistines. It became for him, "in six troubles, I'll preserve you and in seven, it shall not come near you" (Job 5:19).

God kept him all through. He helped him over snares. Samson was just the 'star boy.' The Philistines wondered at what such of 'spider man' he was. They just couldn't get a hold on him. He was like Pablo Escobar, that Columbian drug Lord and cartel founder who kept escaping and making it until a day came when he was separated from his defense and guards. It was a bullet that took him out as he was making an escape with his last guard on the house roof. And Pablo Escobar, the elusive, star boy, the one who had bribed his way out of every case and to achieve every intent fell.

It was a presumption that killed Samson. If he had known that the Lord had departed from him; he would have packed his shoes or fled out of the house undress (which is minor to being caught) alive. He would have gone into exile and hidden himself somewhere to grow his hair - recover. He never knew that the Lord had departed - the locks have been shaved. The Bible puts it this way, "and he wist not that the Lord had departed from him" (Judges 16:20).

You see! That was his error. If he knew, he wouldn't be that confident. He'll yield the day to the Philistines in victory but save himself from the shame that follows by fleeing instead of boasting and maintaining his confession of old, "I'll shake myself and go out as former times."

When he did, what was his experience? His experience was summarized in one simple clause, "and he wist not that the Lord had departed from him."

The remaining is history! You know what follows. As simple as that may look, it's a chastisement for Samson. You'll reap your carelessness. It shows him his sin and carelessness. But more importantly, it shows the role of God in our lives. Brethren, I tell you, without him, we can do nothing. He's the vine and we are the branches!

PRAYER: Lord, I acknowledge your role in my life, help me to near at all times.
