THE NEVER REBUKED ADONIJAH - One Alone Series 003
Kings 1:5-6, KJV
"5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, I will be king: and he prepared him chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. 6 And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so? and he also was a very goodly man; and his mother bare him after Absalom."
The Bible is not silent concerning Adonijah. It says, "And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so?"
That means, to rebuke, amend or correct. That's the only thing that could cause anybody displeasure as the Bible points out in another place.
Hebrews 12:11, KJV
"Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."
If it were a commendation the Bible was talking about, there wouldn't be need to say, "it causes displeasure or grieve."
Correction is not always interesting and rebuke does not for that present time cause rejoicing. Why? It's the flesh or carnality that's being crucified and dealt with. So, it'll have to shrink at that moment instead of swelling up in pride. That's what causes displeasure or grieve. It's like pouring alcohol or ethanol on the liver. You'll cause it to shrink. That's what correction, rebuke and amendment sets out to achieve when administered.
But what sort of son are you that's not amended or for once curtailed? Unfortunately, that's who Adonijah is. No wonder he turns out a usurper and violator of God's will. At day's end, he met with death when he wouldn't yield up the throne that he had lost to Solomon but contest it subtly by seeking Abishag (I Kings 2:24-25).
Not having been well raised and amended made him a spoilt child, one who thinks he could do whatever and get away with it. When you only pamper and hesitate to discipline in uprightness, you'll have half baked cake. And that's who this man or if you which boy or baby Adonijah turns out to be.
The Bible says, "And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why hast thou done so?"
That's what made him become a rotten fruit. What does the Bible say will drive out madness from the heart of a child? The rod! (Proverbs 22:15). That immediately refers to rebuke, discipline and correction which would have produced a better Adonijah with proper ethics. Rather, he was only comforted all the days of his life. Even when he was wrong, it was the father who still begs and said, sorry my son. His end was clear. He became a cast way. He died on his journey. He never arrived. May God rather deal with you as proper children by what He allows to proof and prune you.
Hebrews 12:6-7, KJV
"6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?"
May you arrive. May you make it. May you endure. May you not vanish and be like one who never came because his life was caught short. Rather, may your moments of solitude, hard pressure addresses all the intents for which God is allowing it all. You may experience displeasure passing through them and they may seem to you like scourging but you can evolve a better person after then with transformed character and view of life.
PRAYER: Lord, I submit to the process, make me a better me for your use.
