AND SEE IF THERE BE ANY WICKED WAY IN ME

Psalms 139:23-24, KJV

"23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

It is good to have self confidence. Faith in one self will help you accomplish a lot. Where it is necessary, you must believe in yourself or else, even if God gives you a go ahead, you'd still say you're inadequate (Jer.1:4-8).

However, have you not doubted yourself before? Have you not called yourself to a conferencing where you asked if you were the one who just acted that way you had recently acted? Oooh, are you rolling your eyes or squeezing your nose? Which have you found to do? Is God's GPS locating your address this morning?

The Psalmist cried to God saying, "search me O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!" Why would he pray a prayer like this? It's because even the Psalmist had realized his imperfections (even if it was in time past). Though he longs for righteousness and being made perfect, yet he sees his human errors, weaknesses, frailties and knows that he's prone to stumbling. For this reason (of seeing and knowing his human failures), he called unto God to come and help conduct a search in his life. Also, the psalmist didn't trust himself as being able to conduct a revealing search that'll naked all things in him in all truthfulness. He might fall into self sympathy or excuse himself by being lenient on himself instead of calling a spade a spade. For this added reason, he cried that God would help search him. Indeed, who's trustworthy to reveal the hidden secrets of the heart if not God?

However, his cry and the reason for asking for the flash and search lights of God upon his heart is for a reason - so that God would be able to detect any wicked way in him, cure him of them, lead him in the way everlasting (that has been researched and proven to be true and right for any human being who would find it) while he progressively attains perfection or the stature of Christ.

Do you think you so much believe in yourself? Wait until you rescind your promise or misbehave to your own shock. Such moments hint at the fact that there are still wicked ways in you - traces of the adamic nature. This is what the psalmist saw and which once you sighted, must cry to God for because you really want to be pure and useful in His hands. You never knew you had the wicked way of retaliating in you until a situation brought it out! You were even shocked you could abuse your spouse and was astonished at yourself that this same you could inflate the price for unnecessary gains! You see! That's our Christian brother and sister o! All these and many more acts of ours reveal there's still a wicked way lurking in the secret corner of your heart. Tell God to search your heart and reveal these and many more to you. You'll be shocked to find out that the supposed pure you have scorpions, serpents, broken bottles and razors deep down occupying your heart. You'll suddenly come to the awareness of how much you've wished people evil while believing your heart was right. Look, you need God's search! God must come to scan for all these debris and free you of them before Satan comes to search you and find these wicked ways in you. If you refuse God's search, these wicked ways in you will cloud and mirage the manifestation of Christ's character and the spreading of His aroma through you. For us to be sure that you're not carrying a contrary cargo, you need to be searched and tried even by God (the only trusted One). When you're this squeezed, all these wicked ways (if any is in you) will drop through the renewing of your mind and discipleship (Rom.12:1-2). That way, you're being led in the way everlasting. That way, you would have found what is true to hold unto that cannot fail.

PRAYER/CONFESSION: Search and try me O Lord! See if there's any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting. I receive a revelation of what to let go.

GOD WILL ADMINISTER YOU!

I Kings 18:10, KJV

"As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not."

First of all, all of us cannot live in the same place. That's why there are different men spread over the surface of the earth, living in different places. As a matter of fact, you cannot persuade some people out of the locations they have found to dwell. That is not because they are self sufficient or have everything in this life at their disposal there but because they are contented dwelling there. When you have inner satisfaction and joy staying somewhere, it becomes difficult being persuaded out of that location especially the one God has sovereignly administered you into.

The Bible has pointed out that God determines the periods of our existence and the bounds of our dwelling.

Acts 17:26, KJV

"And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation."

Apart from your time of existence that has been measured to you and can't be exceeded, God has also determined that people be born in different places and live in different places at different times. If you're born into a country and your destiny requires leaving or living and having to do with another, God will sponsor you there. Joseph didn't have to take thought for the transport fee to Egypt. Neither did Daniel and the Hebrew boys did. The vehicle of slavery or enslavement is rather what God used to catapult them there. God can carry you to a land where your destiny should unfold even when you don't have any family or friends there assuring you to come and that, "all is ready."

God hid Elijah. God told him, "turn thee Eastward."

I Kings 17:2-3, KJV

"2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan."

When Elijah heeded that word, he never knew the consequence God was saving him from. The consequence God was saving him from is being searched after for harm by Ahab. Obadiah declares that Ahab has searched for Elijah in all nations of the earth to no avail and when they said he's not there, he even asked those nations to swear to it. Imagine! Did you see how wanted Elijah was? Yet Ahab sought for him and Elijah was not found. That's because in the administering of Elijah at that time, God turned him where it would not be expected he could be. He was by Brook Cherith but he was not found. And later on when the brook dried up, he wasn't sent to a place where his cover would be easily blown off but to a widow's company. As such, Elijah was hidden from the danger that Ahab has intended for him. Ahab sees Elijah as the culprit to blame and one to be apprehended for the drought. He never saw his fault nor come to repentance. Rather, he was looking for him to blame and behead for sure.

What is the miracle here if not the word, "turn thee Eastward." When Elijah found his bearing after the Lord's compass had given him direction, he gained correctness on where to live at that particular time. He was not only supernaturally provided for in the ongoing famine because we read that he drank from the brook and the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning and evenings. However, he was also protected from harm and destruction that was seeking him.

Your security and provision are in your commanded location. If you're out of your location when God's mouth has not ordered it, you're opening yourself to vulnerabilities that may befall you. Trust God like Elijah did for continual leading to another location even if green pastures have dried from where God afore led you to. Don't take laws into your hands. Don't paddle yourself. Don't choose where to live by yourself because the place seems like a green meadow. It may be but if your window opens to Sodom or Gomorrah, you may eventually count some losses. God is not only intentional about keeping you alive, He wants to keep you in fellowship and relationship with Him also. There are certain places that if you go, you'll be too distracted and encumbered to follow or love God. At this point for those looking unto Him for direction, may you hear the voice saying, "turn thee Eastward." May you be steered in the path of righteousness. No harm! No loss!

PRAYER: I am led and I am hidden.

MOVING WITH FEAR - I Believe Series 002

Hebrews 11:7, KJV

"By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith."

I concluded with a statement yesterday. "Many things in the Bible or let us say in reality would happen to test your believer's status." We've seen how Lot's sons in law are at all not believers. Believers are those who heard and promptly obeyed - acting on what they have heard. How smooth would it have been for them to have left with Lot? However to them, the preaching of the cross is just foolishness. It was high sounding to hear that Sodom was to be destroyed. They just couldn't fathom it!

God will like us to learn a lesson from the relationship of Lot's daughters and his sons in-law. My prayer is that you won't get where you as a Christian sees nobody fit of you for marriage than a heathen or unbeliever. If we were to dissect things in truth, Lot's sons in law are unbelievers if taken in comparison with her daughters. While Lot and his household believe in the reality of prediction and Sodom being destroyed, this Lot's sons in law didn't. The Bible says, "Lot seems like one who mocks to them" (Gen.19:14). They were as dead as stone when they should have been responsive - moving with fear to the saving of their souls. If Lot's daughters had eventually married these two heathens, they wouldn't have made the home atmosphere conducive for them. While Lot's daughters would believe in worship of God, they might be idol worshippers or atheists. When Lot's daughters are claiming to have had a vision signalling God's communication and warning, they'll say there's nothing like God speaking to any human being. We got wind of this through their unbelieving act and how they didn't move a bit when they heard the information that was terrifying and should have made them run.

However, Noah isn't like these Lot's sons in law. Our verse for today says, "being warned of God of things not seen as yet, Noah moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his people, by which he condemned the world..." (Heb.11:7).

When you don't know God - the God of the Christians - the One revealed only in the Bible, it's possible to mock when you hear something about the Bible and Jesus Christ. You'll just won't believe it except it mixes with faith in your heart. Noah heard like Lot's sons in-law heard but the difference is that, "Noah moved with fear." He so much esteemed and revered what God said as coming to pass that he went on immediately to start making plans and putting preparation in place for the coming flood. He didn't say, "it can't happen. Flood on the earth! From where will it come? How will it start? He didn't reason it. He believed God against all reason and this made him a believer. It was a high sounding truth he believed. However, the world is lost in its busy and thoughtless activities of eating and drinking (in revelry), marrying and giving in marriage until the day Noah entered the ark and knew not when the flood came and took them all away..." (Matt.24:38).

When you hear things of the Bible, how do you react to it? Do you disdain it like Lot's sons in-law or you move with respect and act on it in total obedience like Noah? That's the mark that separates a believer from an unbeliever or else none of us would have gotten born again too? May we be this alive - moving promptly in obedience and utmost reverential fear when the Lord and His messengers speak to us His Word and His declarations. May you fall on your face where need be, confess where need be and turn a new leaf as need be.

PRAYER: Lord, I call my heart a heart of flesh. I am responsive. I am alive to every instruction that'll be medicine to my soul and life to my spirit.

ARE YOU A BELIEVER? - I Believe Series 001

Genesis 19:14, KJV

"And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law."

Are you a believer? Being a believer doesn't only mean believing in Jesus or receiving Him into your life at the new birth. That may be the crux of your Christianity as you cannot become anything in the Christian journey without first starting as a believer - by being born again. However, a believer believes. Do you have a believing heart? Do you easily believe the truth? Do you have the trait of someone who's responsive even to high sounding truths?

It is clear that God wants to bring destruction to Sodom. The very reason for which God wanted to destroy it, for which God had sent heavenly inspectors to verify was still what the angels disguised as men experienced first hand. The dwellers are just dirty - having changed the natural usefulness of sex. Why would men desire to have sexual relations with men? Isn't that absurd? That's the sin of Sodom. If we look at our world today, we'll see that it's the sin that our world is becoming guilty of now. If you're full of perspective and understanding, you'll see that God didn't wipe out Sodom until they have violated sexual boundaries that the Lord set. Violating sexual boundaries isn't a sin that the Lord takes for granted. It is a sin that even points heavily to the judgement to come just like its doers in the days of Lot were all destroyed.

However, that's not where I'm going. Did you observe that in wanting to save Lot and his household, the angels he accommodates unawares tell him to quickly bring out his people from the city if he had any. That's the benefit of entertaining strangers. Like we saw yesterday, you might entertain angels unawares.

Genesis 19:12, KJV

"And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:"

The moral is this. From inception, God always separates between the wicked and the righteous. Psalm 125:3-4 says, "the rod of the wicked will not fall upon the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to iniquities." "When the wicked are being taken, you'll only watch with your eyes and see the reward of the wicked" (Psalm 91:7-8).

Now, the only persons that Lot could claim to have in the city were his sons in law. They are the men who'll marry his daughters. They might have been engaged to them already. However, these men refused to heed the warning of Lot. They are not believers! A believer believes in truth even when it is high sounding. Is it not high sounding that Jesus died, resurrected and ascended to heaven to live forever (Acts 1:11)? Don't you think it is high sounding that when Jesus died, He fought death to declare His victory over death (I Cor.15:55)? Don't you think so? Yet, you believed. Somehow, you had the faith to believe and at the end, that makes you a believer. However, these sons in law of Lot refused. The Bible says, "Lot seems to them a mocker" or in a better language, "a comedian." They see him as someone who's drunk or has gone mad. How could he say God is visiting this city with judgement and that they needed to leave ASAP! Their thoughts are, "how possible? We've lived in this city all our life. What has been happening has not just been happening? How's it that it's now that one destruction wants to come? All is fallacy! Fallacy it is!" As such, Lot seems to them as he that is drunk.

This is the ingredient that is lacking in the world. This is why the preaching of the cross is foolishness to many out there (I Cor.1:18). I've seen people mock Jesus, His death and the gospel while sharing it with them. Some would even tell you, such things made no sense. This earth will last forever. If we humans don't last forever on earth, what assures you that the earth itself would last forever. Has faith and the ability to believe being destroyed or bastardized in you? God wants that to be repaired. I'm such a believer of what is faithfully reported that at times, people call me gullible. However, I'm not. The Holy Spirit has warned me of dangers that I believed which separated me from the experiences of many others. Brothers and sisters, are you a believer still? Are you still believing or there are things that are too hard for you to believe in the Bible? Do you think angelic visitation is a fallacy? Do you think healing and miracles are false? Then, you need to confront that in the light of the scriptures. When the preacher preaches and what he says turns no one but he seems like a mocker to them, it's because those he's speaking to are unbelievers that faith didn't miss with the message in their hearts. May you remain a believer at heart O ye Christian! May you believe in God when He speaks to you! May you even move with fear when He speaks. May you escape the damnation to come even as you believe in Jesus' second coming and judgement awaiting our world. May you fall before your face, confess your sins and welcome Jesus into your heart. There is the born again experience!

PRAYER/CONFESSION: I'll not refuse the salvation story that'll preserve me. I believe because I'm a believer.

ENTERTAINING ANGELS

Hebrews 13:2, KJV

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

How do we entertain strangers when we know that many may not share your good will for them? We know the kind of world we are in now. Considering it is the winding down of the age, the populace of evil events has seriously increased. Men can do the unthinkable or even seek to take advantage of you if they know you're open and kind-hearted. Then, how should we fulfill this verse?

Growing up was in a community where myth and rumours were spread and usually believed. Many are such pictorial calendars that were rolled out de-emphasizing the receiving of strangers. One such myth or rumour I heard was a stranger who walked into a community needing a place to sleep but fortunately was guided to a mosque. Guess what happened when it was morning? He had become a big snake as told us! In one story, he had turned into a coffin. Then the moral, "thank God no one person took him in." If you've been fed with scenes and images from stories like this, it is hard believing any stranger comes around with good intentions.

However, the Bible is advising contrarily. It didn't say however, don't take precaution or exercise discernment. We should let our fears, bias and prejudice dissipate to entertain strangers because some have entertained angels unawares. There's a blessing God does not want us to miss for which He gives us that verse. It is the blessing that comes with entertaining angels in human uniform unawares. When you do or if we look at those who did in the Bible, we'll observe that those angels were heralds of blessings to them. For instance, when Abraham saw three men, he ran to meet them and persuaded them intensely and repeatedly to come and refresh themselves before they'll be on their way. By entertaining and refreshing them with meat, remembrance of Sarah by God was hinted at and the long awaited blessing was situated and predicted for a time (Gen.18:1-15).

Lot had that same experience. He was at the city gate when he saw certain strangers that he wouldn't allow to go their way considering it was almost night time. He had to bring them into his house to refresh and shelter them. They were the ones who delivered and hasted him out of the city or else, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah would have overtaken him (Gen.19:1-17).

Angels still do go on errands but as disguised, needing help from human beings messengers. If you can see or be sensitized to the needs of others and not refrain, you might entertain angels  unawares and get the blessing that comes with it.

We shouldn't get to a place where we shut the bowel of our compassion to strangers because we've once been disappointed by rude rogues who robbed us blind or brought harm to us. If we should close our eyes totally to the entertaining of strangers, we'll miss God's messengers in critical moments when we need their ministration or help. It takes a lot of sensitivity to see that these ones hanging around should be brought into my home. I have travelled far and wide in my country and I had slept in different places, taken in for months even by people I never knew without one slight recommendation from any human being to them about me. They could have had witnesses or conviction because I found out they were beyond average Christians later. In turn, I have served some of these men I dwelt with like Moses and Jacob served Jethro and Laban respectively. I also didn't withhold. God didn't say, refer them to your pastor or locality chief so they can stay in the personage. Only that you could hint it to the authority and go ahead with the act.

Have the heart to do according to this scripture and when such opportunity avails itself, you'll be sensitized to those that you should bring in even if you cannot distinguish them as angels. They may be mere men to you and may not even change in appearance to look supernatural but indeed in our real world, many have contacted angels in the flesh who were dressed just like any normal citizen. I pray for you that you'll know your time. You'll know the time that has come upon you and you will not miss your season and agents of visitation. You'll be full with ears all over your body to know who to receive and who to decline - for they are harbingers of evil instead of messengers of good tidings. Today, I call you blessed, opening your perception to see your angel in a human robe; your gold wrapped in rags!

PRAYER: Lord, I submit to Your command to entertain strangers. Grant me special perception at such moments of peak visitation.

GOD IS MY KING OF OLD!

Psalms 74:12, KJV

"For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth."

Is God your King of old? Could you say, "the God of ages past and my hope for years to come?" If you can say this, it means you just didn't begin with God. Your journey with Him began sometime ago - far back into the past. You have known Him, His ways and His works. You have tasted of His goodness and His mercies. You have witnessed His deliverance in tight corners and escape when it is due and seriously anticipated. As such, you could call him rightly by His name, "my King of old." He's the One you've taken several steps under His direction without failing.

God is not "the King of old" to everyone. If you haven't journeyed with Him and He with you; if you haven't experienced Him and He hasn't been the One accompanying you till now, then it is unnecessary saying, "you're my King of old." If you make such a claim, you have to show us evidence that makes God your King of old - who works salvation (deliverance) in the midst of the earth.

This Psalmist knows God experientially. He has tasted of God's power in past times and from the multitudes of having experienced God that way, he now speaks calling, "God his King of old." As in, "One who was there for him and would now be there at this time of need in the present."

Let me give you another verse of the Bible to compare this verse I'm explaining with. David says, "the Lord who delivered me from the paws of the lion and the bear will deliver me from this uncircumcised Philistine" (I Sam.17:37). In essence, God is his King of old. He referred to God who helped him over his past challenges in old times being available at the present moment to render an immediate help.

God is not only God who has been existing for ages or one who we have known and have been walking with for awhile and then of whom we have tasted and could talk of His power but one who "works salvation in the midst of the earth." New International Reader's Version of the Bible puts it this way. "God, you have been my king for a long time. The whole earth has seen you save us over and over again."

Do you think the Psalmist was just invoking God that way? No! He needed a new help but he first acknowledged God as his King of old. If He saved him over and over again in the past, He can't be powerless or handicap doing so now.

If you've known Him as your King of old, I tell you that He is mighty to save now. The Bible says, "God is our present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1). Your King of old won't desert you now! He knows you and you know Him. How could He jettison you now? The One who was once faithful will be faithful again. Today, I'm joining my faith with yours to rouse our King of old to stand up for your matter. Where do you need God to show forth as He Who has always been with you? Where do you need Him to manifest as He Who has never left or forsook you? He's showing up now! Your King of old; my King of old; our King of old is showing up! Your situation trembles!

PRAYER: Welcome, my King of old. Never disappointing but on time. Answer as O God of ages past and my hope for years to come.

DO YOU KNOW THAT THE LORD WILL TAKE YOUR MASTER FROM YOUR HEAD TODAY? - Taken From Your Head Series 005

II Kings 2:3, KJV

"And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace."

We've been on "losing loved ones, being left comfortless but eventually comforted." I'll like us trace the loss of Elisha and how God replenished or comforted him.

It's very obvious that Elijah is to be taken away to heaven and the news of the same is not hidden since we read that everybody keeps saying to Elisha, "do you know that the Lord will take your master from your head today?"

This saying repeats itself twice. First, it was said by sons of the prophets at Bethel and then at Jericho to torment and portray the comfortless situation Elisha would soon find himself in. So, they persistently told him, "do you know that your 'libido' would soon reduce because the Lord will soon take your master from your head today?

Let us start our analysis. They said, "...take your master from your head." We put things on our heads to give shelter or covering. It could be a cap or hat from the sun or an umbrella from the rain. Elijah gets described as a cover or shelter for Elisha. They said, "do you not know that God will take away your master (cover or shelter) from your head today."

The mentioning or the idea of the head suggests Elijah is Elisha's covering. Elijah is therefore the hat on Elisha's head who protects him from being beaten by the metaphoric rain or sun of life. To remove this precious covering off his head would therefore leave his head coverless, shelterless. He'll therefore be comfortless! This is everybody's expectation. All the other sons of the prophets who might have envied Elisha till now because he's being discipled by a greater prophet are now in a rejoicing mood. They're now thanking their stars for not being the one whose discipler and cover would be removed that day. They know the consequence, that it would mean remaining an orphan. And we all know how life treats orphans who are not old or strong enough to stand or maintain integrity against the unfairness of life.

However, their expectations were forever banished. It didn't come to pass over Elisha. They expected that it would be unto him according to their words. They looked across Jordan in expectation that when he returns, he'll do so mourning and expressing all sorts of hopelessness.

II Kings 2:6-7, KJV

"6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on. 7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan."

It doesn't matter how many have gone to stand and view afar off how you would fare, you'll always return with the ingredient that'll make them take and regard you as the next deal. Your journey won't be a return in empty handedness.

II Kings 2:15, KJV

"And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him."

Though his cover was blown away or taken off from his head, he didn't feel the loss or indulge in that loss because what can make him a father like his father is what he has just received - a double portion of Elijah's spirit. When God brings compensation into your life for certain losses, you become indeed compensated for. Was Elisha mourning and asking how he would cope with life or how well he would live after Elijah was taken or he went about expressing in the anointing authoritatively?

Those of you with this kind of loss - whose parents, sponsors or covers have been removed from their heads, may God give you grace, favour, gift of men or wealth even through jobs you'll get by which you can provide for yourselves and not become vulnerable ones. Anyone with the loss of his or her cover, be restored. Receive a new cover or what can succinctly stand in to save you from being comfortless. The thought of Elisha was, "if Elijah should leave and I still can't do his work effectively in power", I would be at a loss for ever.

However, he was provided for. He went after what would save him from being a needy when Elijah - the one who meets all needs and attracts honour and respect through his anointing leaves. He gat the anointing for himself and his use also. Or else, he'd be comfortless and ineffective to live life after the departure of Elijah. It'll be too disgraceful going back to the farming he once left.

I pray for you, you won't be at a loss. Before the master of your trade dies, may you have mastered or known the secrets of the trade. Before the man whom God has ordained you get an anointing transfer from is taken away, may you have lived seriously enough to have been imparted - receiving an anointing transfer. If such should die or be taken away without your having become somebody, you'll hate or regret it afterwards. I pray, you'll learn, receive and be a beneficiary of every lessons of fathers while the sun still shines.

PRAYER: I am a beneficiary of the Lord and His anointed around me. I pay attention to gather the ingredients of my destiny.

WHEN THE BROOK DRIES - Taken From Your Head Series 004

I Kings 17:8-9, KJV

"8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee."

This teaching is a continuity on where I stopped yesterday. God comforted Elijah when the declaration that causes famine went effective. We saw how He did through yesterday's teaching. Today, I'll push further.

Do you remember that the brook did dry up. When it does, what did God who sees and knows say? Hear the Bible, "and the Word of the Lord came unto him, saying, arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee."

Did you see God's next move in seeing that Elijah wasn't left comfortless (needy)? He moved him by His precious voiced Word to where he could be provided for again.

I love the usage of language in that verse. A part of that verse says, "I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee." Mark the word, "sustain!" It means to keep you alive. From sustain, we have sustainance. Sustainance is what you take a living by. What helps you continue as a living soul. Something like food you know. That's why the Bible says in Matthew 4:4, "man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from God's mouth."

If that verse is correctly interpreted, it means humanity or man takes a living through feeding of himself. What he feeds or eats is therefore what he's sustained with.

So, when God says, "I have ordained a widow woman there to sustain you", it means one who'll feed you to just keep you alive. It means there'll be food for your body. It doesn't necessarily mean there'll be food enough for Elijah to say he wants to gather riches by selling food items.

God has plans for any of his sons and daughters irrespective of where they are. It's not His intention to leave you comfortless (needy) after losing a job. No! He wants to equate you to become better and continue. He doesn't want you to say, "how I wished I was in my good old days?" No! God rather wants to cause a new season over you that'll make you know continuity.

Today, has one source of livelihood fail in your life? Another shall answer you now! God moves people on. They don't remain static when things are static. They rather progressed. Elijah progressed when things were static and so will you. If God had not met the needs of Elijah, he would have been left comfortless. Someone who was able to feed himself would now become handicapped. However, God disallowed that. Elijah rather knows continuity and several shifts. You too, irrespective of what you have lost in this life, that is not your end. God will move you on. You'll continue and in moving you on, you'll be comforted and have no reason to lament you ever lost one source of income or whatsoever.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for being the Lord that continues with me. I see day after day with You.

WHEN THERE'S NO RAIN! - Taken From Your Head Series 003

I Kings 17:1, KJV

"And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word."

Today, I continue with the series I've been on and I'll be teaching under the heading, "when there's no rain!"

Elijah exercised God to bring judgement upon Ahab and the whole of Israel for forsaking God. It comes in a pronouncement that says, "for these years, there shall neither be rain or dew but at my Word." This Word became acted upon. It immediately goes into effect and suddenly, dry season begins unending. Some might have thought it would soon be over but when rain should rightly fall and it didn't, the unbelieving in those days must have come to know that God's declared Word through Elijah is valid and cannot be turned except by his own mouth.

This closure of heaven without rain or even dew leads to a serious famine in the land. The famine is so serious that even Ahab the King had to vacate the throne to divide the royal cattle with Obadiah (head of his house) so they could find pastures and save them alive.

In the midst of a famine that God knew would become hectic this way, God didn't leave Elijah comfortless. In famine, Elisha still laughs when what was popular are frowns and unfriendly faces around town. That would have been okay if people's lives were not even endangered. However, that declaration of his came to make a menace of human wisdom.

To see to it that Elijah is not left comfortless and brought harm by his own declaration, the first thing God did for Him was to mind how he'll be hidden from being a victim of his prediction. God knew his prediction had taken root that instance but if Elijah - the man of God who had been feeding before (even if it's not in debauchery) would not die of hunger or thirst, he had to be provided.

As such, what did Elijah hear. The Bible testifies saying, "get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there" (1 Kings 17:3-4).

We all know the rest of the story. That's how it was. Elijah was ministered to serially until the Brook dries and God had to relocate him elsewhere.

What God did for Elijah is simply not leaving him, "comfortless!". The moment you begin to miss one ministration you've been enjoying, you can't but be deemed to have been left comfortless.

However, God sees and He cares!

PRAYER: My needs are met and that rightly. I am not left comfortless.

THE NEED FOR A COMFORTER CANNOT BE UNDEREMPHASIZED - Taken From Your Head Series 002

Genesis 24:67, KJV

"And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death."

The need for a comforter cannot be underemphasized. Rebekah replaced Sarah succinctly. It is so succinct that the Bible says, "and Isaac was comforted."

It means, Isaac wasn't comforted previously. He was mourning. He occasionally sheds tears or is emotionally depressed when he thinks of his mum's memory and what she was to him. He's not different from the woman with the issue of blood who was oozing blood until she met Jesus. When she met Jesus, the Bible used a language to describe what happened to her. Her issue of blood was stanched.

Luke 8:44, KJV

"Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched."

To "stanch" means to stop from flowing. It means to bring to a full stop. That's exactly what happened to Isaac when he brought Rebekah into his life. He was someone who mourned but who as soon as Rebekah steps in became comforted.

"...and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death."

To be comforted means to quit mourning or expressing grief. It's not different from putting a stop to a flow. That is, what was flowing before Rebekah's arrival was stopped. The old ended for the new to start.

I pray for those of you who need to have somebody replaced in your life that, "the old will be stopped for the new to flow!" As a matter of fact, I call forth the new in your life. Let the new begin to flow. Let new flow begin to issue. Have a new testimony.

I call forth new issues. When the woman with the issue of blood had a stop in her continual flow of blood, a new season immediately began over her as the old was rolled away. Those of you who are still mourning because of the old presences or feelings, today, that memory is supplanted with the new and better.

You've lived long enough mourning and experiencing darkness. As of now, it is light all around you. It is light all over you. I declare again, it is light all about you. I stanch every flow of the wrong issues in your life. I bring an end to their continuity. You'll from today be known for a new product and not what you used to issue. You'll today be known for happiness and not mourning. I'm hearing certain God's Word concerning you. The Bible says, "the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness" (Isa.61:3). That is what is happening to you right now. Receive it!

PRAYER: I receive the oil of joy for mourning.

THOSE WHO LOST THE IRREPLACEABLE - Taken From Your Head Series 001

Genesis 24:67, KJV

"And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death."

If you have lost the irreplaceable, you may need to speak with Isaac. He knows what it means to lose the irreplaceable. Losing the irreplaceable here isn't the loss of someone due to one's carelessness or cause. It is when death claims the life of someone who's of immense value to you/in your life.

One major thing that happens when people are taken over our head suddenly by death is that there's a vacuum. That gap is created because they are no longer around let alone available to meet certain needs they've been consistently meeting in our lives. Irreplaceable people in our lives may be parents, spouses or siblings. It may even be a fellow who's not related by blood or marriage but who's very close. Such disappearance is nothing short of calamity.

When Sarah, Isaac's mother passed away, Isaac was alone. Apart from being emotionally disturbed for having lost a valued one in his life, he could have missed all the kinds of help the mother used to render. That could range from being a counsellor, encourager, cook etc.

But the Bible records that he got a replacement in Rebekah. A better replacement for that matter. His mother couldn't give him sex but Rebekah even went on to comfort or give him that added ministration.

Genesis 24:67, KJV

"And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother's death."

Isaac brought her into her mother's tent. I don't think this is the culture back then but Isaac could have done this because that tent was available or because of his closeness to his mum or because he wanted some continuity where the mother had left it. You know, because he hoped to have someone who'll continue in her mother's stead. For that reason, she brought Rebekah into her mother's tent. That act is not without a reason anyway.

Rebekah became his wife and he loved her. Afterwards, he was comforted! What I'm praying for each and every one of you who have lost an irreplaceable one is that you'll find a replacement and be comforted. Children who have lost parents need those who'll adopt them. We all know that. Else, they may not be properly raised and comforted.

An irreplaceable one looks irreplaceable because of their great value or contributions to our life. However, God can give you another helper who'll do likewise or surpass them even in deeds. And as far as God is concerned, He wants your tomorrow to be greater than today. What He does is to keep equalizing us with the better. The path of the just is as the shining light which shines more and more unto the perfect day. God's thought for us is of good and of evil to give us a hope and a future. You can't diminish in your journey with God. He achieves that by finding you better persons and graces that can make you better. God won't allow you to retrogress or fail because of certain ministrations you couldn't receive into your life again. No! Death might have cut it off unplanned but whenever the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift a standard against him (Isa.59:19). That standard can be an act in the replacement God will give you so that you can be comforted, equalized and even win the situation on ground.

I pray for you, "you shall be comforted! Anything that can end your mourning and bring soothing comfort into your life, receive it now in Jesus' name! May God give you persons where you've lost one (except for a spouse since that concerns marriage). You'll only need a man or a woman to bring back those good memories. So shall it be.

PRAYER: The Restorer and Master Aider restores my comfort and joy. I am aided by the right person.

THIS SEASON IS OVER OVER YOU! - Marital Series 005

Genesis 2:18, KJV

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

God's declaration which has become my declaration is that, "this season's over over you!" You may want to inquire. What season? The Bible says, "and the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone..." That's the season that's over. The season of "being alone." That's what the Lord is pronouncing as having come to an end today in your life. Listen brethren! Over your life, the declaration is, "it is not good for you to be alone again..."

Now, because the mouth of the Lord has said it, an introduction of a new season would come into your life right away. A new chapter would be opened and you'll be ushered into it. In that new chapter, you'll no longer be alone. Rather, you'll find a helpmeet - somebody specially created to suit you and crafted to meet your needs and vice versa.

When God says of Adam, "it is not good that the man should be alone..." He meant his season of being alone is coming to an end. It means, "I'm addressing your being alone immediately." And what surfaces after that is, "and I'll make him a help meet for him." Before you knew it, God had to make Adam sleep and bring forth the woman from him which he later brought to him. When Adam sees her, he gasps and says, "this is now bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man" (Gen.2:23).

This is what God is doing now for some of you. You have expected till now, being hindered from marrying till now, jilted till now but God is saying, "I am making him a helper fit for him."

You've suffered loneliness enough when you should have been brought out of it. The declaration today is, "it is no longer good for you to remain alone (single as a bachelor or spinster). God in His infinite mercy is bringing you out of it. Another critical thing to learn from that verse is that it is God who declares one season to be over and another to commence. The Bible says in Psalm 68:6, "God sets the solitary in families." That's basically God's doing and not what any human does. The idea of marriage or the plans to bring Adam out of being alone in the garden proceeded from God and was God's idea. It wasn't Adam who suggested it to Him. What God has therefore decreed must be established over you. He has said and is saying, "it is no longer good that the man should be alone, I'll make him a helpmeet for him." It means you can no longer be hindered from getting married. God's mouth is the one that wants to bring you out of that season. Now, show me the demon, ancestral curse or what can keep you back in your state of being alone? Just nothing! As of today - this morning, your reproach is being rolled away and God is making you a help meet. The season you have used without this effective help of the helpmeet is over. What God is saying in the spirit realm concerning you is, "it is no longer good that XYZ remains alone, I'll make him a helpmeet for him." However, God is giving husbands to the females also. Do you receive and align with this declaration?

PRAYER/CONFESSION: I agree and receive the saying that it is not good that I should remain alone. Therefore, I welcomed my God made helpmeet.

THOSE THE LORD IS MAKING A HELP MEET FOR - Marital Series 004

Genesis 2:18, KJV

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

There are those the Lord is making a help meet for. Do you mind knowing those who are? The Bible verse we've been considering says, "and the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

When this verse reads this way, some might have thought God said He would create a help meet for an idle man (one with no specific work) but who's alone. No! Adam was never idle. He's a fully occupied man. When God says, "it is not good that the man should be alone...I will make him a help meet for him", God meant, "it is not good for Adam to be alone in the garden (in his home) and in the work He has given him." That's the major reason why God says, "for this purpose, I'll make him a helpmeet for him."

Why would God make Adam a helpmeet for him if there's never an intent for that? God knows Adam and the sort of work he has been called to do. For that reason, God had to create or fashion someone who'll be able to see the same work as pleasing and not as offensive. Why some couples never assisted each other is because they found the work the other is doing unsatisfying or unfulfilling. There's nothing Eve needs to meet in Adam's life if there was no assignment Adam has accepted and was doing that if any would co-labour must be someone who wants to do the same thing.

Also, God created Eve to bodily (structurally) and emotionally suit Adam. I don't know Eve's temperament but it sure was given to compliment Adam's.

Let me tell you this. Eve is tailor made for Adam. She is a vessel based on Adam's needs. Hear God speak once more. "And I'll make him a help meet for him." If you indeed found a spouse, that's how it'll be. Where you're weak, they'll be strong. They'll be created, given to you and would have been educated or trained just for the purpose of complimenting you. When your spouse doesn't fit or suit you, it means you married another person's spouse. You missed yours!

God knows each of us and He knows which of the women available at a particular time would fit or meet our needs. That's what He sent our way. May you find such help that'll fit you. If you purchase a dress that doesn't fit you, you can imagine how difficult and wasteful that is. The same applies to marrying a spouse that's not one's help meet. Instead of things falling in place, things will fall out of place. Instead of her being a help meet - suitable help for your life (meeting certain needs), she'll be creating needs!

PRAYER: Lord, carve me to be fit for someone. Lord, mercifully re-shapened spouses that aren't help meet to begin to meet help in their spouse's life.

THOSE WHO SERVE PURPOSE WILL BE SERVED - Marital Series 003

Genesis 2:18, KJV

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

DID you observe that it wasn't Adam who asked for a wife or said, "it is no longer good that I remain alone, now I must get me a wife?" It is God who observes the gap to be filled and thinks of doing something about it.

God cares for us and our times are in His hands. Know that and you'll be free from a thousand worries. Also, the faster you prepare and get ready for a wife determines when this voice of, "it is no longer good that the man should be alone" would come into your life.

We've seen in the previous series that a man who has no home or work and is not bound by God's instructions doesn't need to consider having a partner. If he obtains one, it'll be an invitation to an accident and suffering for that woman. One, there's nothing to join the woman to to do or accomplish. The lady has nothing to boast of her husband. No already made or ongoing accomplishments on a thing called "work!" Also, there's no place to make arrival or proper arrival into. For Adam to have a house to bring his bride into, God had to earlier plant a garden for his sake.

The idea of "planting" a garden suggests a work deliberately done and crafted through hardwork for someone's comfort. God intentionally invested in that garden to make it home-looking and comfy for Adam and the woman he later takes.

Adam didn't post a poster for a wife. The moment God planted a garden, put him there to work and till it, he was lost doing that until God sees that, "how good it'll be if He has someone to work with, to keep his company, to gist with, discuss work with and closely do life with?" Adam was busy serving the will of God where he was put. He didn't even know he needed a wife. But, God saw the need for one and made preparation for it. I don't know if this has ever happened to you before. But if you're an obedient serving son or daughter of your parents, they'll often come home with things you really need that you never for once talked about with them.

Listen, those who served their Father must be served. Their needs would be taken care of. God will mind them. God will so much mind them that other insolent and rejecters of God's work would ask in envy, "what is man or XYZ that you are mindful of him Lord and the son of man that you care for him" (Psalm 8:4)?

Wherever you are, if you are sent of God and put there like Adam was put in a garden Eastward of Eden, you'll be taken care of. God will meet your needs. He's the One who sees. He sees the need of Hagar (Gen.21:17, 19). If you'll be jealous for God and be lost in the work or purpose He has called you to, you'll also see Him meet what is next in your life that you even don't acknowledge or consciously know is next.

PRAYER: I give myself away to serving the will of God for my life.

GOD IS MAKING SENSE - Marital Series 002

Genesis 2:18, KJV

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

In a series I began yesterday, you saw how God began to make sense when He said to His listening audience - the rest of the Godhead, "it is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him an help meet for him."

God just didn't carelessly say that. He said it having observed that the necessary requirements have been put on ground. This instruction, "it is not good that the man should be alone..." is not meant for a jobless or let's say a purposeless individual who hasn't found what to live for. Not at all!

How did I know that? When God said, "it is not good that the man should be alone...", He had one man in mind and that was Adam. Adam who God made in His image, gave life to by breathing into his nostrils, gave work of tilling and dressing the garden to and who God bound with certain instructions of not eating the fruit of the tree in the middle of the garden. That is the state of the man God could turn and say to, "it is not good that the man should be alone..."

Anything short of this is compromising that standard and the consequences would prove the violators wrong even in the nearest future.

So, if you're there thinking God is a pamperer who is careless about correct preparation, you're probably in error. God Himself took Adam through the process of having a home and a work (purpose) before bringing up the issue of marriage to his face. The Bible says, "and the Lord planted a garden Eastward of Eden, there He puts the man which He had created" (Gen. 2:8). Adam therefore has a home and a work. He has a place to bring a wife into and a work that is big enough that needs a co-labourer. Until Adam is this endowed with responsibilities to discharge, God didn't bring him someone who could relieve or closely serve as his assistant or burden bearer.

You don't have the big mouth to say, "and it is not good that I should be alone", when you have no shelter and no definite work that you're doing. So, God was making sense when He said, "it is not good that the man should be alone..." That came from His observation that everything has been set and put in place for a woman. Even if she's brought to Adam now, it'll be good timing.

That reveals him as a fair and thoughtful God. God's thought was, "Adam already has what it takes to be a husband, why delay again?" Through this, God lays for us a criteria and a road to walk even as men who anticipate a help meet in one's life. Are you ready to receive Eve? Do you have the preparation for receiving her on ground?

PRAYER: May I not trivialize the processes that eventually make things smooth. May I pass the test of a man who's ready not to be alone.

WHEN IT IS NO LONGER GOOD TO BE ALONE - Marital Series 001

Genesis 2:18, KJV

"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

There's a time when it is no longer good to be alone. It might have been good and okay before then. However, as any man or woman grows and progresses in his or her life's journey, he or she will get to a place where he or others would discover for him that it's no longer good or ethical that he or she should be alone.

If you're a Bible reader, you'll observe that it wasn't the first day God created Adam He came to the realization that it was not good for Adam to be alone - therefore making or bringing him a mate. God had created Adam for awhile; Adam had lived for awhile as a fully grown up body or adult before the thought of creating the woman or giving her to Adam ever came up. If we were to look at the Bible, we would see proof of this in verses that ran ahead of the verse that says, "it is not good that the man should be alone."

God formed the man in Gen.2:7 and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life. From that verse to 15 where Adam was put in the garden to dress and keep it while navigating downward to 16-17 where he was instructed not to eat of the tree in the middle of the garden which can cause death; you'll see through this walk that Adam existed and was allowed a time to breathe before the issue of marriage was brought up into his life. First is the work given to him. He was given the work of dressing and tilling the garden. From there, he was instructed on what not to do in order to test his love and obedience.

It is dangerous bringing the issue of marriage up with a man who has not first discovered his purpose and put within the confines of God's allowing. If we were to metaphorically take this process of Adam and spread it on ours, I'll say getting to the stage or state where you realize you need a spouse takes time. It won't happen while you were in primary school and God didn't plan it happens while you were in secondary school also. God plans that you should have succeeded in finding your foot - knowing your purpose - having a life work you're pouring yourself into amidst the many instructions of God you're living up to before a season would come in your life where community of men, either through your parents or those with oversights over you would say, "don't you think you need a wife or husband? Imagine! You have everything. Here's a job! Here's an apartment and more importantly, you have a purpose or calling you're fulfilling that needs the help of a partner - one who'll be closer than a friend. Even your age also demands one! At such a time as this, one should consider marriage indeed.

This is when it is no longer good to be alone. At such times, seeing the opposite sex near you brings comfort and not anxiety or fear. There are times and stages of one's life when it is thoroughly good to be alone however. If you aren't alone at that time, you might later become a failure in life. At such time, you need focus and the concentration of a single lady or man who needs time to have become somebody and have some achievements etched before any other person joins you. For Adam, God didn't just bring Eve to join him. God created and brought Eve to him when some foundations of achievements had been laid - part of which includes work or purpose.

There's a time to be alone and a time when before God and humanity it is no longer good to be alone. What season are you? Ensure you do not desire one season to the detriment of another. Become who you should be and lay the foundation while a single so that when you bring another person into your life, there can be enough work for the fellow you're bringing into your life to do with you.

PRAYER: I know "when" and when "when" is not! I understand seasons of life and manifest marriage or other key blessings at its time.
