THE COMMANDMENT TO BLESS - Programmed Series 003

Numbers 23:20, KJV

"Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it."

I have received the command to bless, how can I curse? Imagine that! This came from Balaam to Balak. Balak insists that Balaam places a curse on Israel (on his behalf) and all was tried to ensure that Israel was cursed but all was to no avail.

When Balak sent for Balaam, he made ready for him seven altars with differing sacrifices on them the first time. Balaam speaking to Balak said, "I'll go and meet the Lord if probably He'll meet me." When the Lord does, it was blessing He put in his mouth. So, the desires of both Balak and Balaam to have Israel cursed was not fulfilled. This repeated itself the second time when Balaam angered Balak for blessing Israel according to God's dictates to him again. What was Balaam's response? "God is not a man that he should lie, neither is he a son of man that he should repent. I have received a commandment to bless and he has blessed, I cannot reverse it." Though the event continued to the third time where neither Balaam nor Balak could change God's mind by their sacrifices or desires to have God curse Israel, yet we shall stay on the second event.

The reply of Balaam to Balak that second time shows God's insistence to have Israel blessed despite their own insistence to overrule it and have her cursed. Balaam confesses, "what can I do? I have received commandment to bless, He (God) has blessed and I (a human) cannot reverse it." In every situation, this is your outcome as a Christian. Meanwhile, I want to stay on the fact that Balaam became impotent changing what God has said because it was a COMMAND to bless he had given him. God didn't leave him to his discretion. As often as he comes to God, God tells him what to say and mandatorily, he just cannot deviate from that. That's why he said, "I have received a commandment to bless." So, the calling or call on him for that time being is to bless and not curse.

That commandment to bless and not curse could be likened to how God straightup raises people for a purpose He wants them to fulfill which they must not deviate from. He hooks them up to it and they get hooked up to it. They breathe after that assignment and that assignment breathes through them. Other things that other men are commanded to do may be interesting but they actually won't give attention to it because they aren't called or commanded for them. As such, this act is the work that God alone does. He places us and specializes us on what we should do. Like a command, we hear, we do; we deviate not. I pray for you that you'll not turn away from any call or calling on you. That of Balaam was to bless Israel despite having the desire of cursing them and at last he blessed them. May God so much gag you with the calling and the obligations of it that it'll be the only thing you'll live for. So shall it be in Jesus' name.

PRAYER: I have been called and commanded to live a certain life, that I will live and not deviate.
