WHEN YOUR HONOUR IS NOT GIVEN TO YOU - I Perceive Series 003

John 4:25-26, KJV

"25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he."

The concern of God this morning is the degree to which we are humble and count ourselves as nobodies. We've been told not to exalt ourselves or boast ourselves more than the measure we are dealt. If you seek to exercise yourself beyond this your allotted mark, that might be pride ( Rom.12:3).

However, how humble are we? How humble you are is manifested when you're offended and you're right (with the other party being wrong). That's when we can see for once if you're really humble.

I'll like you at this time go back to John 4:5-26. Read from there. You'll see the conversation of Jesus with this Samaritan woman. This woman believes the Messiah comes who will tell them all things that they'll have to believe. At the time she said this, it was given as a response to Jesus' stance on doctrine which conflicts with what she believes on the supremacy of what constitutes worship. Jesus didn't emphasize physical building or locations but talks about sincerity and heart experience or contact with God - which off course could take place anywhere in the world. That can't wait until you get to one place designated as holy city. However, after Jesus gave His position and what you'll as well agree was utmostly right for practice, this woman refuses Jesus' stand by saying, "the Messiah comes who'll tell us all things".

If you were the one (since Jesus knew Himself as the Messiah who she was referring to come), how would you feel? You'll shake your head and wonder at how ignorant she is right? That's the temptation. The temptation of vindicating ourselves over others when they're wrong and proving it so to their faces.

This woman was expecting the Messiah yet the Messiah she expects is the very one standing in front of her for the whole time they had talked. Yet, she didn't discover, acknowledge or even praise His presence. Rather, she was riotous and full of debates as Jesus even tells her what is utmost to be done in worship of God.

But Jesus was not offended. He didn't say, "look at poor you!" He didn't leave the well after she had made Himself known as a revenge for having not been recognized and worshipped. He stayed until the city came and the woman and others could be established and prove Him further as the Messiah. He even lodged with them though it was humiliation for the created to have no recognition for his Creator. If you were that great, mighty, honourable, the owner of a large estate yet your workers wouldn't even recognize you as the boss, what would be your attitude? Would you pick offence and seek to prove your worth? Would you allow men to discover you or you'll speak into their faces? Would you wait for your timely revelation or seek to slap men with yourself? I pray, may we not be offended when we worth much but we're treated and esteemed little. Even if we feel disappointed, may we not become offended - eventually becoming bitter.

PRAYER: Lord, help me not to be sensed ruled. I practice the humility of Christ. I count myself nobody that you may exalt me.

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Daniel 11:36-12:13; 1 John 4:1-21; Psalm 123:1-4; Proverbs 29:2-4
