MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE - Olusola ADEJUMO

BECAUSE IT IS YOURS FROM THE LORD

Read I Kings 1, 2:1-15

I Kings 2:15, KJV

"And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the LORD."

Now, when it comes to serious matters, it should be left serious. That was what I expected from Adonijah. He shouldn't agree with someone that contested the throne with him. Meanwhile, Adonijah owned up. He said something that kept rotating in my mind: "you know I ought to be king [being the eldest living son] but the table turned and Solomon is now king because it is his from the Lord. Full stop! You could see him mourning and trying to attract sympathy. This is where this scripture below is fulfilled.

John 3:27, KJV

"...a man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven."

It departed from him because it is not his from heaven. Naturally, he ought to be king. Even, the whole of Israel was anticipating him being king but all hinges on, "is it his from the Lord?" This question should keep you humble and restrict you from striving unnecessarily. There are many who had strove for what was not released unto them from above until it was to their peril like it eventually became for Adonijah.

In yesterday's devotional, I mentioned the reality of your name being tagged on something. Once that happens, it will be reserved for you. It will await you. It's that same thing that Adonijah couldn't debate successfully here. He confessed in truth and didn't lie that it was Solomon's from the Lord.

Now, let me ask you. Who should be at peace with you - your friend or enemy? Your friend, but Adonijah that the matter of being enthroned has made an enemy of the king [Solomon] still confessed the truth. He opened up.

Saint in Christ, what is yours from the Lord may currently be under contest. That of Solomon was. As a matter of fact, the Bible recorded that Adonijah exalted himself and said, "I will be king." That statement immediately reminds you of the devil. These two are usurpers of the throne. He not only confessed, "I will be king" but he conferred with many notables, performed the rites of kingship and was installed as one. But from his own words, "the kingdom turned away from him" and the reason for that was given. Wherever you get to where there's a vacant position to fill, you'll find he that the office is his from the Lord and he that wants to scheme his way to the office. Meanwhile, let the heathen rage. Let the hills be removed and be planted in the sea; you can go to sleep over God's declaration. "What is yours from the Lord, no one can take" is what I'm professing by God's Spirit. This issue isn't one to disdain. Do you know how many people have been cheated by powers greater than they? Some have even lost their spouses to another. I'm telling you of the reality in our world. But I speak as a sent prophet to you user of today's devotional that the Lord that kept the throne for Solomon will be jealously obligated to keep what should be yours and yours alone for you. They may agitate, wanting to have a share of it or even collect it wholly but the Strength of Israel won't allow. Through today's devotional, God is  teaching you two things however.

1. Distinguish between what is yours from the Lord and what is not. God is obligated to keeping such for you. On that, He'll fight men for your sake.

2. Don't exalt yourself where you've not been exalted. Don't go near what God makes your neighbour's. If you do, God will resist you for the sake of your neighbour.

It is do unto others what you'll want them do unto you. Is it not better to take a humble position and then be called to come up hither? Should you make yourself king or they should make you one like David instructed they make Solomon to ride on his own mule? What an embarrassing thrusting of oneself forward for Adonijah!

Adonijah brought the greatest disgrace of all time on himself by wanting to make himself king when he that God is working through (David, his father who has even not suffered him of anything before was not crowning him). Here, David is a type of God that knows whose right it is and can't be taught whose right it should be. That's why Adonijah boycotted all the righteous authorities and collaborated a mutiny with those who have shown themselves disloyal to David. Yet, despite the fact that he was older than Solomon and people anticipated his being king, the kingdom still departed to Solomon.

You have an Administrator who maintains your lot. Your lot is that portion God earmarked or blessed you with. That's what He calls your own.

Psalms 16:5, KJV

"The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot."

If there be one like that to keep watch over your portion and to separate between your portion and your neighbour's, then you should be sure that all you've committed to Him can't miss nor be marauded. Wherever you've been exercising fear, go and be assured that the Lord is the One that manages your lot. He did for Solomon until what was his became his.

PRAYER: I commit to you all that is mine. Maintain my lot. All contest over what is mine ends today.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 4:19-6:15, Colossians 1:18-2:7, Psalm 77:1-20, Proverbs 24:23-25
