ESTEEM MANNER OF LIFE - My Manner of Life Series 003

II Kings 4:9, KJV

"And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually."

When you distract attention to the ephemeral, you lose the substance. This will raise the question of what a chaff is to wheat. It'll raise the question of which is really needful.

This teaching should also warn us to stop seeing what we should let go in people while totally killing the desire to affirm the unimportant. Often, what people praise in their men of God is his style, his car collection, wardrobe and taste. That shouldn't concern you. Paul speaking to Timothy says.

II Timothy 3:10, KJV

"But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience..."

Mark the usage of the expression, "manner of life" or what we can also call "conduct", it means how one's life is being carried and lived - by what standards and values it's lived. That's what he told Timothy to open his eyes to absorb. That's what he's telling us to fixate on. The Bible admonishes us further when it says.

Hebrews 13:7, KJV "Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation."

Over time, the Bible tells us to follow men as they follow Christ (I Corinthians 11:1) but in all these following, we have a thing we're to watch or get. We're to follow their faith as we observe what becomes of their lives. We're not to follow their wardrobe or fashion sense. Not even their diction? They are least of what the Bible wants our attention to be on.

What have your own eyes been on as you follow that Christian before you? What have you coveted most from him/her? Why do you want to be seen with him? Is it to pull rank that you're in a relationship with him or that the anointing may fall on you and service be called out of you?

Why?

What that woman perceived was Elisha's manner of life - his purity, devotion, humility. She didn't see a flowing garment. Like Jesus commented somewhere, "those who wear soft raiments are in the kings' court" (Lk. 7:25-27). They are the ones given to wanton living.

What you see in people tells us who you are and what you really cherish? It tells us what you hold dear and what you would ask if offered the chance. When Elijah asked Elisha, what shall I do for you? His response was straight, "that I might inherit double of your portion" (II Kings 2:9). It shows where his values are and what he longs to have. He was not looking for 30 pieces of silver or 40 pieces of clothing, donkeys and oxen. He went for value.

If you esteem material things more than a person's manner of life, you can marry a crook with money or a beautiful wife with no character (fruits of the Spirit).

Therefore, we should seek not to know people after the flesh but who God really calls them. Elisha is just a traveller like any other but this woman sees him beyond what appears ordinarily. He decodes he's a holy man of God by the manner of his life. He doesn't laden himself with much as he passed on in his journey. He's just like shepherds who only carry little for the journey and trust their needs to be met as they go. This produces contentment and an awesomeness around him. Also, it's high time we began to "perceive" or sense by discerning who people really are. Let's see beyond the facade of deception and what they project. Let's see into their manner of life. Judge people by their manner of life and not by materials they have gathered.

PRAYER: Lord, make me a man of good intent, a man of depth who judges by the critical matters. I shall not be deceived nor regard people in the flesh.
