WHAT CAN MEN DO TO ME?

Psalms 118:6, KJV

"The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?"

If there's any action the Lord wants to call you to this morning, it is to take account of whatsoever has been done to you and then imagine what else could be done to you. Ask with me, "what can men do to me?" In this life, some have been jilted, slandered, libeled, rejected, abused, ignored, hated, persecuted and even discriminated against. We can take account of more painful hurts and label them for what they are. In all, the Psalmist wants us to ask, "what can men do to me?" First of all, you have to see that the Psalmist creates an endless list of evils or hurts humanity can unleash against an hated neighbour. Man is wicked and he can do much but despite that much he can unleash, we're still told to ask, "what will his much amount to if God be with us?" Paste the full list of any evil invention that any man can do to you here and it shall be made void and null by just one truth - "that God is with you". God being with you is therefore the antidote that swallows and makes null and void any evil any man does or can do to you. You remember vividly the Hebrew boys. The heat killed the mighty men who threw them into the furnace. Meanwhile, they themselves survived the furnace and obtained a testimony that "fire had no power on their bodies, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire passed on them" (Daniel 3:27). They experienced the furnace but it has no effect whatsoever on them and that's because God was with them. So, what can men do to them?

This is what God does for a man that He's with and that's why you should not be afraid of what men may do to you. Your protection is the Lord if He's with you. Irrespective of what men does to you, God will ensure it becomes insignificant. It won't be traceable on you. God will overshadow its effects and those former things will no longer be remembered. What has men done to you, may the effects be annulled this instant. Gradually, may time bury it and recover you. At times, God does a kind of restoration or replenishing so that those victims of hurt may be compensated and vindicated. It's in this category, Joseph falls.

Joseph pastures the sheep of his father with the children of Zilpah and Bilhah. The Bible says he brought an evil report of them to his father. We all know that's possible because the father once sent him on an errand to look after their ways (Gen.37:13). This in itself is an exalted position that can draw hatred to anyone considering his birth rank. For his dreams which predicts him as being a leader over them, they however hated him the more and couldn't speak peaceably to him. This hatred is set in motion when Jacob made him a garment of many colours. Having concluded he enjoys a special favour while conducting himself in pride, they planned to send him on an errand he can never, never survive. One suggests killing him but Reuben wouldn't have them shed the blood of their own brother. When the opportunity avails them, they sold him into slavery to the Ishmaelites' traders. Their sole intention is, "to see what will become of his dream (Gen.37:20). You immediately know what they're fighting to hinder from that hateful speech?

Joseph's brothers are very commonsensical people and they're not different from how any average man would think. Joseph is constituting a threat to them and all they have to do is to eliminate his presence. That they have done. Having banished him to everlasting slavery, they have therefore set him on a path where all the things he had seen and predicted would never happen. Will he come back from slavery to rule over them? No! That's if he has not died before manifestation time. But this operation of Joseph's brother is the same that God now catches on to bring prophecies to pass. We all know who Joseph became and how his brothers ignorantly bowed before him.

What can be more than calling him, "lord?" When Joseph made himself known to them, as they sorrow and cry; Joseph keeps saying," God preserved him to raise him for their preservation." Later he says, "you meant it for evil but God meant it for good to save many people alive" (Gen.50:20).That's where that Psalm becomes effected. God on your side and God with Joseph made all done to him to become a key to fulfilling his destiny. They did their worst but God rose His best. At the end, it was as if Joseph had never being through slavery. When they even met him, they couldn't even find that mark on him. It's all gone. Joseph knows that. He knows God is with him and so, what can any man do unto him? What will betrayal reduce him to? It would only have effect except God is not. But if he has God by him like we read yesterday, He will turn all evil of men to advance him. Herein is fulfilled, "the Lord is on my side, I will not fear, what can man do to me?"

PRAYER: I banish the secret fear of what men can do to me? God is with me. I rise above fear.

THE SHEAF THAT ROSE

Genesis 37:7, KJV

"For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made obeisance to my sheaf."

There's always the sheaf that rises. That sheaf is the one that other sheaves give their obedience unto. It is the Lord's doing not man's.

In Joseph's dream, he sees his sheaf standing upright and those of his other brothers surrounding his and doing obeisance to his. These sheaves are human representatives and they symbolize something more than dry hays standing upright or bending.

As we all know, this is one of the visionary dreams that predict and foresee the future of Joseph. He'll one day become a governor and leader that men, even his family will submit to.

However, God is ready to pick up a matter with us on this. It is that, there's always the leadership sheaf. God in every generation and at every time when He has something to accomplish always does raise leaders. He'll anoint their heads with the Spirit and give them a portion that'll make their horn stand upright like the unicorn's. It is this that makes the sheaf of some people stand upright, unique and shining amidst many people of their times. When David killed Goliath, he walked his way into leadership. As he continues to wage the war of the Lord and lead Israel to battle, he reaffirms his leadership or sheaf's uprightness. It therefore becomes easier for all Israel to accept him as king later on. There's always a man with a unique achievement. This unique achievement will stand him up amidst others and it is usually what will surround him with people.

But that's not an ordinary act. It's the work that the Lord sovereignly does because He's only the One who could make space for any amidst the great and strong. Isaiah 53 says it better.

Isaiah 53:12, KJV

"Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

God did that verse for Jesus but in extension to those He wants to make/shift a space for amidst those with positions and statuses.

So, the mystery of the sheaf that stands upright is a reminiscing of a leader - one amidst many that God has given to lead and provide leadership for many. The Bible still speaking of Jesus says, "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be" (Genesis 49:10, KJV).

When people gather round an anointing or a leader, it isn't because that man or woman do give them money or because he has charmed or enticed them literally. It's because there's an anointing, grace and gift with which he's endowed that made it possible for his leadership to be recognized and submitted to. You can contest with leaders but you cannot keep at it because you'll see a reason why the Lord has chosen to anoint their heads with oil. You'll soon see why it's their boat that Jesus chooses to enter and not another's (Lk. 5:3).

Leadership is first of all spiritual and not physical. It has nothing to do with age or size. Joseph is way younger than his brethren and David is even the last born of his family. But once destiny keeps calling and the anointing chooses a particular man, he makes him esteemed and favoured above all others.

That's why when the angel visits Mary, the greeting passed to her in Luke 1:28 is, "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women."

Favour is the mystery of choice and those God chooses He favours. Don't contest with who God has raised. The fact that it's God who raised them is usually pronounced in your seeing many reasons why you think they are not qualified yet surprisingly they succeed. I've seen a stammerer who is gifted and anointed for songs who a band gathers round. He even composes. As such, other instrumentalists become drawn to him. In his purpose, they found their own purposes. There's always a man that unto him shall the gathering of the people be. They'll be drawn by his light and come in submission to what he shall command them. This is the mystery of leadership that excels and stands upright amidst many. That's why in every generation, we easily recognize some people as flag bearers than others. Don't contest with it. Submit to it.

PRAYER: Lord, lift up my head. Let me take my destiny position. Call me unto my higher place. Anoint me for leadership.

SEE, HERE IS WATER! - Ready For The Taking Series 007

Acts 8:36, KJV

"And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?"

It is good to have ears all around you. If not, certain opportunities will just pass you by. The story that revolves around this saying is a very popular one.

An angel prompts Philip to go and stand in the way that leads to Gaza. Philip doesn't know what God seeks to bring from that. On getting there, the Spirit speaks to him, go and join yourself to this chariot.

Acts 8:29, KJV

"Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot."

In that chariot is the Ethiopian Eunuch who has come to Jerusalem to worship. However, he's still not born again and he's almost slipping away again before the Lord initiated a recovery mission to get him born again. God could see that he's feeling after Him. As a matter of fact, when Philip was about to join him, he heard him reading the book of Isaiah. God does all things well and an opportunity immediately is opened for Philip to join him because he couldn't grasp what he was reading. So, he needed an interpreter. He needed a preacher. This confronts us with the importance God places on his ministers. Without a preacher, how shall people hear the good news? The Bible then records that from that same part of the Bible that the eunuch reads, Philip preached Jesus to him.

That's how vast every minister or preacher of the gospel should be. There shouldn't be a part of the Bible from which you cannot preach Christ to the people. Jesus is the centrality of the gospel and if light dawns on you, you'll see Him everywhere because both the prophets and the law testify of Him.

But as they journeyed on together in this eunuch 's chariot, they chanced on water and the eunuch gave a shout. "See, here is water! What hinders me from being baptized?" This man could see what we can call, "his divine moment."

In essence, the Ethiopian Eunuch was saying, "let me seize the moment. Don't let this opportunity pass me by. If this is water, should anything stop me from being baptized?"

Immediately, he was baptized because he believed that Jesus is the son of God! Today, God is looking for those who'll seize the moment likewise. God is searching for the heart with recognition of what's next, what's ordained and who won't let it slip. There's something special about this eunuch. He has eyes for opportunities and he doesn't let it slip. When he sees that this is water, he immediately seeks to fulfill what it can do for him.

When you see the opportunity that you should take, may you not sleep nor slumber. May you also call out and say, "see, here is water. What stops me from being baptized?" As that will apply to your case, may you fulfill it.

PRAYER: I carry sensitivity for recognition of divine moments and the taking of opportunities.

WHAT SOME PEOPLE ARE FORCING - Ready For The Taking Series 006

Acts 10:5-6, KJV

"5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do."

Brethren, life that God plans isn't hard. That's if you'll take it so. That's if you won't be covetous or seek to force your way into prominence. What many so desire, for which they're forcing things, God gives even on a platter of humility, selflessness and Christlikeness. Brethren, it's good to know how to have all things without breaking a sweat.

Consider the Scribes, they want people to salute and bow the knees to them at the market places (Mark 12:38). They want greetings from men but there are certain species that don't mind that yet have it. Let God see your heart that it is clean and there's no wicked way in you. When it's just that, you'll see all things fall for you and before you.

What happens when Peter arrives in Ceaserae? Like one under a spell, Cornelius immediately falls before him.

Acts 10:25, KJV

"25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him."

I wonder why? The errand angel didn't include that in the list of to-do things. How come Cornelius is now kissing the canvas and worshipping at the feet of Peter? It baffles all of us but this is what happens when you don't push yourself before men but it's God who calls for you and brings you into the limelight. That time of appearance will suit you and men will not only hear you, they'll be curious to act on every detail you utter. Cornelius is so expectant and open that he worshipped Peter!

When Cornelius fell before Peter, humanly speaking, he was doing it because of the much estimation he has for Peter - the man God recommended to be sent for. Imagine the premium God places on Peter. That errand angel says, "send men to Joppa for one Simon... he'll tell you what you ought to do." For short, Peter is like one with the power of life and death over Cornelius. God acknowledges him as one who has the Word of life to instruct Cornelius in what he should do. As for Cornelius and all the people with him, they know nothing but Cornelius has an address to contact and it's that address that will prove as having what they should do in his hands.

Ministers of the gospel, don't force your way into prominence. As a matter of fact, let every desire and claim to be famous be first of all burnt by God's purifying fire. Lose the desire and the nudge to be seen or to be someone. If it pleases the Lord, He'll make it good for you. Observe Peter, he was not dying to be heard from or seen. Where he was, he was just waiting for what next assignment would unfold. He was staying with Simon the tanner by the sea side. The Bible didn't identify for us what he was doing or waiting for there but sure enough his next place of duty called up to him. What many men would scheme for, lobby for and pay for is what God gave Peter free of charge and yet with a strong recommendation letter. One, Peter didn't apply to preach before such a highly placed community. Cornelius is regarded as a centurion of the Italian Band. It means only one thing. He's a man of very great influence. He alone has between 80 -100 soldiers under him. That's not a small or diminutive position. He has men at his beck and call and such is the man God has submitted to Peter. Peter didn't even ask for it but God gave him to him. Brethren, the extent to which God can give territory and souls into your care knows no ends if you'll first of all submit to God in total surrender and humility.

That's why when Peter showed up, Cornelius fell before him. Cornelius' would have said, "look at the man God spoke about." Why would Cornelius submit like this? It's because it wasn't a man who subjected him before Peter. It's God that caused that estimation to be triggered. He was harkening to the voice of God. This is what happens when men don't receive testimony from the mouth of any other man except God concerning you. If God had told them to release something into your lap and they have delayed till then, by the time they hear God's voice, they'll shiver, quirk and run in obedience, pleading with you for the delay and asking you to help them beg God. They'll fall before you and ask, "hope God is not angry with me that I'm just bringing it?"

That's the provision God provides. It's given in utmost reverence. That's what makes an obedience and humble minister look like one that has bound the people with smell. Everyone hears his voice. Yet, that's what many charlatans are chasing without the life of Christ first of all. They want prominence and obedience. So, they lord it over people. They wanted men to fall before them so they placed premium on themselves. But Peter didn't do all these. It takes God's recommendation and God's fear in Cornelius to command the same. Brethren, everything the world is busy chasing is in Christ. Let it be Christ prompted. Don't run to gather it yourself. Doing so doesn't make it valuable. It'll eventually look like thrash that you gathered for vainglory. It won't satisfy you nor persist. People would soon wake up that you're keeping and leading them in chains under your thumb. Let them hear the voice of the Saviour saying, "send men to Joppa for one Simon...he will tell you what you ought to do."

PRAYER: Lord, I submit before You that you may humbly lift me up in due season.

IT IS A PARLOUR MEETING - Ready For The Taking Series 005

Acts 10:24, KJV

"And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends."

You have known public revival. You have heard of massive harvesting of people. You have heard of the wind of revival that came and overwhelmed a territory. It has not stopped. It is still breathing. However, there is a slight methodology in what God is doing.

Three Thousand may not get converted directly but conversion hasn't stopped. Family by family, household by household, one group of friends to another group of friends, the Lord is turning them in.

Cornelius sent for a minister to hear the Word of life. Not an entertainer but someone who'll dish out the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, and Peter lived up to that. He preached the death and resurrection of Jesus

The falsity of many ministers has been exposed. The diet on which they have sustained their congregation which is messy and verbose will be relegated now. People are waking up to one thing - the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Like the Spirit has said in these past days, they can send to a distance to bring the minister who has this Word of life with him. But more importantly, they are not going to raise dust with it. What God is doing seems to be silent yet very effective. People are gathered heap by heap nowadays in sitting rooms and God is meeting with them. Revival has shifted from your religious institutions and centres, it has gone into people's houses where friends, relatives and a whole household can be contained without any outsider knowing what's going on. Women in purdah will encounter Jesus and blast out in tongues, glorifying and praising God in high unhindered praise. The Spirit of liberty leaping on them will be their witness.

The preacher himself is an ordinary man. There's nothing in him that we should desire him (Isa.53:2). He's not in your fancy suit. He's not to be lodged in a 5 star hotel. He only dwells with one Simon, the tanner by the sea (Acts 10:6). When called up, he shall come and he shall reject all formalities that make men famous and something but to the decrease of Christ. As for such ministers, they must decrease but Jesus must increase. They'll instruct people with their lifestyles first before opening their mouth to talk. They'll say, "rise, don't fall before. I am also a man like yourself" (Acts 10:25-26). You'll see the humility of their message in them. These are not white washed tombs or hypocrites who desire greetings in the market place.

The revival has shifted. The wind that has been blowing has left to homes and home fellowships. There, instructions are going out to people. There, people are being discipled and the Holy Ghost is being poured on them. There, high government officials and influential people are getting born again without a camera staring on their faces nor a denomination wanting to use them as a face to enroll more.

What God is doing is an in-gathering. A whole family, household with relatives and friends will be captured. Minister of God, don't reject the humble invite of a Cornelius. Don't say it is a parlour meeting. Parlour meeting is not as important as winning souls and meeting with the heart of the Father. What God is doing must be understood so that its flame is not put out. New grounds that'll be broken in the Middle East, Northern Nigeria, North Korea and many places in the former Soviet Union that are mostly Islam dominated or dead in rituals of Eastern Orthodox Christianity shall be broken into at a parlour conference meeting. God has heart for everybody and He'll get them wherever they may be. This is a parlour meeting meeting needs of the heart!

PRAYER: Lord, we pray that the gospel of Christ will penetrate difficult terrains and places. May you also raise ministers who'll be sacrificial enough to cover new territories.

KEEP IT CLEAN FROM POLLUTION! - Ready For The Taking Series 004

Acts 10:5-6, KJV

"5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter: 6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do."

Keep it clean from pollution. Stay true to the calling with which the Lord has called you. Preach the gospel in and out season. Not for fame, riches or acclaim of people but to win the lost, restore the backsliders and train men for ministry.

It may seem those who keep it clean and are trustworthy are not in demand. It may look to you that their message is even unpopular and that they're not used by God.

That's how we can think when what is polluted is popular and seems to have taken over. In a time when what ministers want to eat has led to the watering of the gospel or a deviation from it, the light may no longer be on those who keep the message clean and keep at it.

However, the good news is that despite the corruption and perversion, God knows His go-to ministers and he is personally in intimacy with sons and daughters, recommending them to be listened to.

A voice came from above to the disciples saying, "this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased, hear ye him" (Matt. 17:5).

It wasn't Jesus who blow His own trumpet. Rather, a testimony came from heaven to stamp Him as a worthy fellow to listen to in all matters.

That's why someone like Mary could tell His disciples at the wedding in Cana of Galilee to listen to Him and do, "whatsoever He tells them to do" (John 2:5).

Peter had never known Cornelius from Adam and Cornelius had never met him for once also. However, God connected both together. That's because it's Peter that has the Word of life that Cornelius and household needed to listen to.

Keep it clean, minister of righteousness. God knows your address. He's specially intimating people to follow you, subscribe to what you say and teach, read your books and materials and take you as a teacher.

It doesn't have to make sense to the general public. God will give those who should see eyes to see. Only a few people know about God's recommendation to Cornelius. God is likewise doing that. Behind you, He's raising a testimony concerning you.

From a far distance, God is commanding men concerning you. At such times, one learns how good it is to have kept it clean. The Lord's recommendation is greater than any widely following anyone might have gained by watering it down. Imagine the Lord Jesus Christ saying, "send to Joppa for a man called Simon...he will tell you what you ought to do.'

Does that not tell you that God has addresses of His authorized ministers with Himself. He knows those He could send sinners to who will not exploit them for money or fame. He knows ministers who are free from worldliness and its desires and those He could trust with the Corneliuses. God knows that Cornelius has an open heart and he'll immediately fall before Peter at arrival (Acts 10:25-26). He won't recommend someone who when Cornelius falls, he'll keep him on the ground but rather one who'll say, "rise up, I'm also a man like you."

That's the heart God observes before he sends men to men (His ministers).

In a perverted world, may you and I be Peter that can have recommendations over seas and mountains. May people seek us out to hear the Lord's Word from our mouth. May we be that minister of God that gives sight to the blind. May we fulfil the great commission as the Father desires.

PRAYER: Lord, I will not be polluted nor pollute the gospel. Your message and order to me shall remain.

THE MAN WITH WHAT MEN OUGHT TO DO! - Ready For The Taking Series 003

Acts 10:6, KJV

"He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do."

Now, when this angel says, "he shall tell thee what you (Cornelius) ought to do", it means Peter has a particular Word for Cornelius.

That word is the timely Word that expectant/yearning Cornelius need to hear. The reasons for that were well settled in yesterday's devotional. Meanwhile, does that mean God cannot fill a minister up with other Words to speak to other people's situations? I didn't say that or refute that possibility. As a prophet, I know God can do that because God has been able to bring diverse timely words through me to other people.

So, we may need to consider that latter part of our verse in a new light, closely linked with the message of salvation we saw yesterday.

When that angel says, "he shall tell you what you ought to do", that angel in essence is saying, "we have a go-to minister. One we have welled up with God's Word that you need to hear now."

It is the Spirit of God that wells up or inspires which Word to preach to the men who come around us and may I tell you the truth, the Word that someone needs at a time may not always center on salvation. It may just be to comfort or allay his fear. Doing that as the Spirit will inspire and give you utterance will be obedience.

So, another aspect of this Bible is the fulfillment of the verse that says, "for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Rom. 8:14). Here, forth telling becomes a weapon of God's minister. He wells him up with a particular matter and he releases that Word to meet immediate needs at a time. That's what we call, the Word for the now.

That Word is a disposable Word. You can't manufacture it for use on another occasion. You have to wait for the Spirit to inspire or give you another to speak to meet the occasion next time. That's when it can make sense. That's when you can operate in the Spirit still. So, when that place says, "and he will tell you what you ought to do", it interprets as what God would want you to hear, what He will sovereignly bring or speak through that yielded human vessel to you.

If you always want to experience peak moments, speak what God is saying. If you want momentum to die off you, don't wait for that per time Word. As a matter of fact, that's what Matthew 4:4 hints at. It's "the every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God." Scripture can just break lose and when interpreted, it'll make sense and move your hearers. It'll meet their needs as if someone had gossiped to you about their lives earlier.

It's also the Word that Job talks about when he says, "I have esteemed the Word of your mouth more than my necessary food" (Job 23:12). Those are God's uttered Words. Motion Words! Moving Words! Stirring Words! Prophetically uttered Words! Forth-told and inspiringly spoken Words. Words spoken like one fallen under trance. It's that kind of Word Balaam couldn't tap nor gather when Balak offered sacrifices for him to make entrance or divination. He wanted Words for the moment but God locked him up and suffered Him with it.

Why have I been able to author the devotional these past years? It's because of those daily Words God gives. He inspires them and they all look and felt new. When taught, they not only rejoice me but the hearers.

Let the Spirit choose for you as you meet people. He'll fill your mouth with what you shall say. A message shall not be far from you. That's when people will not be able to resist the authority and wisdom by which you speak. Other than this, you'll make mistakes and be fretted with errors in speech.

PRAYER: I choose from the womb of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit transports me. I am a vessel and I'm yielded to Him.

READY FOR THE TAKING! - Ready For The Taking Series 002

Nahum 3:12, KJV

"All thy strong holds shall be like fig trees with the firstripe figs: if they be shaken, they shall even fall into the mouth of the eater."

This verse summarily explains ease and inevitability. I guess you might have had that experience of shaking a tree full of fruits before. May I ask what happened to the ripe fruits?

They fell! You got it right. That's the exact imagery being portrayed here. When a stronghold is like the description I've given here, porosity allows it to give way. Without much effort, entrance will be gained and the population of people such stronghold houses shall be doomed.

May our own strongholds not be like that! Ours shall withstand and abide in strength. What we pull over ourselves this morning is that our own "bow abides in strength." Even our hands are made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel) - Genesis 49:24.

When we are vexed, we shall be unshaken. We shall remain solidly like mount Zion that cannot be removed, but abides forever (Psalm 125:1). You'll therefore endure and still exist when many elements have waxed cold and passed away. Your bow, even the strength of your hands shall remain like the beginning.

Continuing from yesterday's series on Cornelius and his getting born again, I'll like to say Cornelius, his household and those he invited to hear the gospel are ripe grapes ready to fall. They only awaited someone to shake the tree.

Why did I say that? Did I see anything? Sure! God told Cornelius, "send men to Joppa to a man called Simon... he'll tell you what you ought to do" (Acts 10:6).

Did you see some sort of submission of will in that statement? God is also not in doubt of Cornelius. He knows he'll submit to whatever the said preacher says. As a matter of fact, the often prayers, alms and the fearing of God that Cornelius has been noted for all points to the fact that this is a man aspiring to know God. He wants to meet God but he doesn't know how. So, he began doing good. He began giving alms. He could have thought by the doing of all these, he'll attain the kingdom. He began praying and who knows whether one of his prayer points was, "God, if you're there, let me really meet you." That won't be a wild chase guess because we have a verse that says he fasted and prayed, only that we don't have specifics on what he prayed or waited for (Acts 10:30-31).

However, it is during that fasting God heard his prayer, sent him His angel and instructed him on what to do. We may have a reason to draw a connection between both, since God's appearance to him is an answer to his prayers.

That Cornelius thirsts after God isn't an act to be taken for granted. God might have made a pull on his heart but sure, there's a need for a minister to meet that thirst. Saying this, a Bible portion is recalled to my understanding.

Acts 17:26-27, KJV

"26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us."

Pay attention to verse 27 and what God says through Paul there. Contextually, Paul is preaching to heathen and idolaters in that place. They are nothing but sinners. So, it sure fits for our own context of discussion also.

Cornelius began to actually feel after God. It shows in all the religious acts he did to reach God but that's actually not how to reach God when one doesn't have a relationship with Him. But thank God that God saves those who cry to Him! Cornelius has gotten to that stage and state where he now desires to meet God and know Him. He even fasts and prays towards what may have to do with meeting/knowing God or having his thirst and longings for God met. He wants to kick start a relationship with Him but he just doesn't know how. God seeing this, that somebody is somewhere seeking His face, feeling and thirsty after Him, made His recommendations. God was bold with it, "send men to Joppa and call for one Simon... he'll tell you what you ought to do."

That's a typical example of a ripe fruit ready to fall into the hands/mouth of the preacher who'll near it. A ripe field in a person already feeling after God doesn't need much labour to be won for God. They rather wait with eagerness to see what God will command them to do. As a matter of fact, a lot of things prove that Cornelius and those with him are ripe fruits or fields. One, his estimation for the man God told him to send for. He was almost worshipping Peter who refused it and reorientated him (Acts 10:25-26). His thirst is also revealed in the preparation he puts in place and the many people he had gathered to listen to the esteemed awaited preacher (Acts 10:24). Another thing that reveals his eagerness is the fact that the Holy Spirit fell on them all while Peter still preached. Peter had not even said, "receive the Holy Ghost" but it came on them (Acts 10:44). That's because they all had an open heart. Their yearning and desire to have God or reach God is genuine. God therefore meets them halfway. He walks up to them! So, God moved mightily and came on them even without a personal invite having been sent. What a thing!

All these prove that Cornelius, his household, friends and relatives are ready for the taking. Before Peter came, Cornelius also might have rehearsed in their ears his supernatural encounter with an angel and what he instructed them to do. This one only waters their eagerness the most. The way Cornelius looks up to Peter at arrival shows a man who's ready for anything. Ministers must not use this to rob or swindle people who express reverence and genuine love for God. You're not the one they're so honouring. It's God in you. All colts who have been decorated, carrying the Master must stop thinking the jewels in clothes and tree branches that are laid on the floor are for their own honour (Mark 11:8).

God is sending you to a ripe field. You'll meet a ready soul. A soul on whom all has been made ready already. He'll only ask, "brethren what shall we do to be saved?" May you not make the mistake of saying sow into my ministry or basket at that time. Rather, may you preach Christ's love and sacrifice to him. Many are like a ripe field. Reapers should beware. Irrespective of their status, power, connection base, the Holy Spirit has encountered them earlier and made all things ready with them. He only wanted to seal it with salvation, which is why He needs a preacher through whom they can hear the gospel. For those of you contemplating and arguing whether all things are ready or not, receive your amendment in this verse.

John 4:35, KJV

"Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest."

PRAYER: Lord, I am available and at your reach. When you need an evangelist and preacher, I shall be one.

WHEN THE MEASURE IS FULL AND IS READY TO BE POURED FOR YOU

WHEN THE MEASURE IS FULL AND IS READY TO BE POURED FOR YOU

God is sending me to some of us. He's saying, "continue to do the good you've been doing - the good you have learnt to do. When the measure is full and the time has fully come, it shall answer and be measured back unto you."

The Bible has this to say:

II Kings 4:11-13, NLT

"11 One day Elisha returned to Shunem, and he went up to this upper room to rest. 12 He said to his servant Gehazi, "Tell the woman from Shunem I want to speak to her." When she appeared 13 Elisha said to Gehazi, "Tell her, We appreciate the kind concern you have shown us. What can we do for you? Can we put in a good word for you to the king or to the commander of the army?"

A day like this hasten to answer some of you. "Payday", it is called! A day when you'll reap what you have sown. Only that what you'll reap will be better stocks than what you've been tirelessly sowing. A Bible portion affirms that.

Luke 6:38, KJV

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again."

Let's progress. We just read about Elisha and what he did on a day that no one could have ascertained was reckoning day.

He told Gehazi, his aide and minister to call the Shunem woman. At appearance, Elisha expresses untainted and unfeigned gratitude to this woman. He confesses, "you've been careful for us with many cares...Therefore, would you have us do anything for you also?"

For short, this woman got an open cheque! Elisha even gave her suggestions probably she was short of ideas. "Would you have us speak to the king or the commander of the army for your sake?"

Why will Elisha speak like this? It's because he indeed has been touched by all that this woman did for him. Her deeds in his life are uncountable. So, Elisha having the hearing of those authorities suggested if he could help with anything. Indeed, he could sincerely make demands on them for anyone and it'll be granted.

However, this woman has all things that pertain to those suggestions of Elisha. If it were mere physical things that a man can give or grant - goods or position, she has it all?

So, listen to her response.

"No, my family takes good care of me" (v.13, NLT).

That marked the end of the discussion. She had to be released since she seemed to be like the Laish people who lack nothing (Judges 18:7).

However, Elisha wouldn't budge. I guess he's being nudged to inquire further. So, he asked Gehazi, "What can we do for her?"

In essence, Elisha was saying, "this woman has done so much not to be attended to. No o! Something must be done for her. Gehazi, what do you suggest?"

At this time, the long awaited confession is forced out of Gehazi's mouth. He might have reigned it in so he doesn't appear as a gossip but now that it is the master who has asked, he has no excuse not talking.

Gehazi exclaims, "she doesn't have a son and her husband is an old man" (II Kings 4:14).

Imagine those hindering combos! It reminds me of another problem that certain women once contemplated over.

Mark 16:3, KJV

"And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?"

You see, that's their contemplation, brooding and worry. But the shocking thing is what follows.

Mark 16:4, KJV

"And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great."

Did you read that? When they eventually got to the entrance of the cave, they found the stone already taken care of. That's just the exact thing God does for this woman. Gehazi has done very thorough findings and he has supplied all the needed observations. But, there's nothing too hard for the Lord to do. Is it low sperm count, lack of egg or whatever? Oooh, you don't even have a womb! What is it that you need divine help for that only divine ability can supply? When God comes, He'll not only consume the sacrifice, He'll lick the water and consume the stones also.

I Kings 18:38, KJV

"Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench."

All those impediments shall be gloried over. None shall be spared! He'll walk over all of them in absolute victory - like David rejoiced over Goliath.

I Samuel 17:51, KJV

"Therefore David ran, and stood upon the Philistine..."

So, how long is the list of knotty issues you need God to unknot? How weighty are they? A combo like this woman's or hydra-headed? It makes no difference, God will 'walk' and mill everything without disturbance. After such a great victory over them all, He'll put them in their places heap by heap, making a public show of what He conquered for you.

Judges 15:16, KJV

"And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men."

I said, "God is threshing those issues now!" That big stone is being rolled off! It shall stand no longer in your path.

Please, follow me still.

Having heard that she indeed has a need - one that outweighs his initial suggested help to her, Elisha hurries and asks Gehazi to call her back.

She was standing in the doorway that day when Elisha made his decree that became the Lord's decree.

"Next year at this time you will be holding a son in your arms!"

Though the woman protested, she might have thought Elisha would turn out to be some false prophets who had prophesied to her for money, yet "The woman soon became pregnant. And at that time the following year, she has a son, just as Elisha had said" (II Kings 4:16-17).

Brethren, your own measure too has reached, measuring to the brim. It's even beginning to overflow and at this time must be poured or better still given to you. What heaven owes you will be released to you at this time. It is today, not tomorrow.

This woman indeed has been careful with all cares for Elisha. As often as Elisha passes that road, he stops by to eat in her house until an abode was built and furnished for the man of God in the bid to retain him, make him spend time longer and break the stress of his journey.

We must learn to retain blessers with us. Laban knows that of Jacob (Gen.30:27). And Jacob himself once said to an angel disguised as a man, "I will not let you go unless you bless me" (Gen. 32:26). Have eyes for blessers - those carrying a portion that can run contagiously to you. They are key to your journey. They'll mostly give you what will put you ahead, something money cannot buy at times or codes of conduct manifested as a successful lifestyle that many aspire to have but which is vague and unattainable for them. They'll make you reach your destination faster than others because they'll slice delays and what unnecessarily engages the time of others off you. You'll be free of entanglements and the errors of many youths, which if there's no recovery from and a new focus, they might be forever vexed and sunk.

The Bible didn't tell us how long Elisha passed by that way and was ministered to by this woman nor did we have specifics on how long he stayed in that upper room before he asked to summon her.

We could only suspect that it might not have been long - probably shortly after the packing into that furnished upper room.

This last act of generosity that seems uncommon could have been the trigger that prompted Elisha into saying, "Hmmm, enough is enough. Reckoning has come and so it is! I must address this issue today." You know, there's always a straw that'll break the camel's back (lol).

Brethren, you too, don't be weary in good doing. It's like a thrift contribution that's rotational amongst people. If you don't grow weary of giving for others, your day of collection and picking up will surely come.

All the things you have laid down shall once again be picked up. The bread you have cast on the water shall be found and your joy shall be great.

I said, your joy shall be great.

For Cornelius, (though an unbeliever); when his day came - his measure having been full, an angel says to him.

Acts 10:4, KJV

"And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God."

Mark, "thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God."

That is not a day's prayer or alms. What came before God was rather his accumulated prayers and alms giving. That day, the payday of Cornelius came and it was shocking what the Lord instructed him to do that he might gain his payment.

Acts 10:5, KJV

"5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter

6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do."

Mark, "...he shall tell thee what you ought to do."

It means a minister has the Word of life on what people ought to do. May you not have the pulpit and begin to say nonsense on it. May God have confidence to recommend men to you behind your back. May you be trustworthy enough that when you have the floor, you won't begin to teach sinners how to make money but rather to see their wretchedness without Christ and the urgency for salvation first of all. Only few ministers could God trust this way.

That copied out verse also reminds me of another verse that says, "and how shall they hear without a preacher" (Rom. 10:14).

God places special premiums on ministers/preachers, of which you are since all of us received the command to, "go ye into the world" (Mark 16:15).

God's answer to Cornelius starts to come in a recommended preacher that God trusts with the Word of life. It's this Word that Peter speaks that gets Cornelius and the many people who waited with him born again. As a matter of fact, the Spirit was poured on them (Acts 10:44).

God's Spirit is also running a scan now. He's hovering over what looks like waters to see what to pick up and specifically administer as a reward for your consistent actions.

For the Shunemite woman, her barrenness becomes broken. For Cornelius, he becomes born again, receiving the Holy Ghost as a seal.

What one thing do you need above others at this hour? God is fixing it for you. God is going about it right now. It's been put in place.

The Bible has spoken well to us when it says:

Galatians 6:9, KJV

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

"If we faint not..." is the key. God knows people can get tired of good doings. For that, He encourages us not to faint. Those who faint don't get compensated at all. They're the multitude who gets filled with bitterness, decry why they were not the blessed, envy the blessed and seek to open holes in their reputation. They'll say,"that thing doesn't work." They're the multitude who'll say, "Christianity is a scam." They might be of us before but now they have gone out from us!

Brethren, stay there! Don't be weary of any "good doing." The God yesterday who distributed to people who persisted and kept at it is still the same today. He won't jump you over. A day of reckoning is on the way. For you, it might just be by the corner. When David talks of his cup being full, that immediately hints at a blessing to immediately harvest and collect. What is full must be poured or offloaded! (Psalm 23).

Once this act, this repeated act has filled the cup, you can't but drink of its return proceeds. How its return proceeds will manifest may differ from one person to the other but your reward will not tarry forever.

"For in due season, we shall reap if we faint not..."

Don't be depressed at the due season of a friend that has come beside you. Your due season is specially of God made for you. It'll come. Follow after faith, hope and well doing.

"Good measure" that will again be adorned shall be given back to you. Your room, barn, space or custody shall be occupied.

You'll receive better than the inputs. God's scale promises better and richer than anyone's. But for the Corneliuses, you need to know Jesus died for your sins, rising on the third day in victory having conquered death. This way, He purchases eternal life for any who will believe in Him (John 3:16). If you believe, let it manifest in this confession. "Lord, Jesus, thanks for your death and the forgiveness of my sins. I believe in all your sacrificial works as valid for my salvation. I receive the gift of eternal life and I live - both now by the Spirit guidance and eternally in the afterlife."

That's the gift God first gives to the Corneliuses. Cornelius is naturally a good man. He prays and even gives alms. He eschews evil. He's morally upright if you'll say but he's not born again. God sees a need to immediately address and so God's angel's word to him is, "send to Joppa for a man called Peter."

Through Peter, he hears the gospel and has his greatest need met. What is the essence of building churches/mosques, doing philanthropy, sponsoring orphans' education and meeting needs of widows yet without having been born again. Any man's good works doesn't qualify him for heaven - eternal life. It's what Christ did which he or she accepts. Accept him now Corneliuses! Don't reject this ministration. It's God coming through to you through another Peter. This is God's greatest blessing to you. Have it! Don't drop the ball!

WHO WILL TELL US WHAT WE OUGHT TO DO? - Ready For The Taking Series 001

Acts 10:6, KJV

"He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do."

People, this is the conundrum in which God has found Himself! Shockingly, God is in a jam - a strait if you will call it that. His question is, "who will tell the dying world what they shall do?" To deepen the criticality of the matter, a verse says "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?"

Immediately, the premium on a preacher - declarer and voice for the message comes to fore. Till today, it is still, "and how shall they hear unless there's a preacher."

The story of Cornelius is a popular one in the Bible. He is a Mother Theresa in acts. The Bible testifies of this when that visiting angel says, "...thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God." Cornelius has the habit of praying and giving alms. That angel reports what he knows to be true. See it again in Acts 10:2.

Imagine that! Cornelius fears God. In another word, he eschews evil (Job 1:1). For short, we can call him a morally upright man. A good man as people would say. God Himself knows that and He doesn't want all these good of his to be a waste. For that, God sent him an angel. Mind you, this supernatural visit is necessitated because God wanted to give him a sign. It's also a way by which God affirms Himself to him. That's why he didn't doubt all that the angel instructed him to do. You don't have to covet any angel visiting you. That's an unusual way through which God speaks to people and He doesn't use it frivolously. It doesn't also prove how spiritual you are because we know Cornelius wasn't even born again when he had an angelic encounter. You don't need it. If you ever need an angel, leave it to God's disposition whenever the need arises. They are mere ministering spirits (Heb.1:14). Put your gaze on Jesus! Desire Him!

Meanwhile, I thought the angel should have preached to Cornelius but the angel didn't do that. That's because angels don't preach the gospel. They are not the ones the Bible describes as having beautiful feet (Rom. 10:15, Isa.52:7). Humans only do. Knowing that, God makes a recommendation through that same angel to Cornelius when He says, "5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon...6 ...he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do."

God has refused to meet the urgent need of Cornelius through an angel. Rather, He recommends a human vessel. The crux of the matter is this, "are you recommendable as a minister? Can God trust you with sinners? Can God trust that if someone like Cornelius were sent to you, you will preach Jesus, salvation or the gospel to him?"

You know, it baffles me that God had to recommend Peter for Cornelius in order to hear the gospel message. God knows the quarters that could give it. It means a lot to me as a minister. It means there's a trust God has entrusted to all preachers and ministers of the gospel and He's expecting us to discharge it. It's to preach the gospel - the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (to mention the core). If God were to bring you before sinners and any in need of salvation, what would you preach? The gospel or The 52 Ways To Stay On Top?

You see, there's nothing wrong with 52 Ways To Stay On Top/Make Money but it'll be a waste of ministration before sinners. Of course, that also should not be your best message before your born again congregation also. The greatest need of Cornelius or anyone who isn't born again is salvation and God has found nobody to custody this trust with but the ministers. How unfortunate it'll be for all of us if the man being waited upon goes on to have the floor but preaches another thing even when the souls eagerly waiting are expectant of being commanded and taught concerning that one thing they lack. Consider Cornelius, he only lacked salvation. He's already on the top. He has the bags and has the cash. He has officers for errands and men who respect his name. That's why he's able to gather family and friends (Acts 10:24, 33). However, he is not saved!

Peter could have been intimidated by his status, the riches, the calibre of people surrounding him and so changed his sermon. He could have decided to talk to them on How To Subdue The Earth With Ease, thinking that'll fit the calibre of people seated. But, this is indeed a servant of God - one that God can trust with the Word of life. He dished Jesus out to his hearers and in no time, God answered "with fire" (Holy Ghost out poured) - Acts 10:44, I Kings 18:38.

God Himself is in his right senses when he says, "send men to Joppa to Simon... he'll tell you what you ought to do." God wouldn't have spoken this way if He knows Peter does not have the Word of life? God wouldn't have been this assured to direct a sinner from a Gentile world to look for a man by all means just to hear the gospel being preached. God rather is assured that Peter won't disappoint and indeed Peter maximized this once and for all door of ministry to enter the Gentile world. He preached Jesus - the gospel in truth and indeed.

If it were you before sinners, I hope you won't begin to 'romance' them, wanting to act like a 'civilized' being who wants acceptance by all means? Brethren, God didn't teach Cornelius how to make money. He taught him to be born again. If you care to know, Cornelius is a sinner despite his wealth, status and generousity. However, he yearns after God. God could see that and that's the gulf God wanted to fill by asking him to send for Peter.

May you not waste ministry doors that it takes God to furnish. May you not waste the chance to harvest the ripe field. May you not begin to dance and perform in front of your audience like a fallen Samson when you should prick their hearts with the Word and convict them to godly sorrow, leading to repentance. May the angels not ask, "who's this comedian entertaining to eat?" At your rising and issuance, may you not go to impress your audience but to fulfill Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." May men say, "what shall we do to be saved" instead of picking your hands and shaking it frivolously as if you'd just won a lottery (yet you'd just preached)!

PRAYER: Lord, sharpen my mouth as your arrow. Renew my concentration. Refocus me. Reharness me and let me be your go-to minister when Corneliuses are around.
