HE WILL NOT DEPART FROM IT - Vow Series 009
Proverbs 22:6, KJV (emphasis mine)
"Train up a child [of vow] in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
This is one of the places where the Bible speaks with such finality. Why would the Bible insinuate both covertly and overtly that he'll never depart from it even at adulthood when he would seem to have gotten sense to discern between good and wrong and to make choices for himself. Despite having such liberty at hand, he won't depart from it because that training given him in childhood bears down on him. It is a training that has weight and weighs down on him. The Spirit divine illustration coming to my mind is a drag net with lead fixed to it. If you throw such into the water, the lead which is made of a sort of metal would allow it depress into water and stay there. Even if the net would have loved to float or come afloat, the lead would refuse it and constrain it by a great compelling stronger than the net's to stay still and stay still under the water. Hear me, that's what happens to any adult who has been trained in the way he should go in childhood. That training would bear him down and make him a lover and doer of not many things but only a way and that's the way he was opened to deliberately some years back. If that way is bad and you abuse him for being a bad adult, the fault is not very much his but those who form him into a deficient adult. It is not left in the hands of a child to train himself. He is only obligated to receive and obey instructions. Somebody originates and issues them to him. So, why an adult has been tied down into the doing and the repetitive doing of that thing is because having done it over time, over the year, from childhood to adolescent and then to adulthood, it has been registered in his brain's hardest core and then his heart where God's Word resides to be a man of only that way. That registration like second nature is now what orders him. He will always find it hard to rebel against that once upon training. That's why Paul cried, in Romans 7:23-24, "23 but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?"
Did you see the lamentation of an adult who has grown massively in the undesirable way than the proper way. He'll struggle for balance. His smooth journey would be hampered. He'll stumble, rise, stumble, rise, stumble and even when grace aids him, marks of yesteryears would still bear witness to a life lived in the flesh or of the other training. The Bible is saying, people, forget it. This one is a forgone conclusion. We can settle on it. Once your part as parents is done to attach lead to this net, throw him into any body of water, it would only know one thing to do and what's it? To drown and go down. He becomes a man of one thing. He would lack insight and opinions of other ways to follow though here they are rightly placed before his sight. A lady would be shaking her booties before him but he won't even discern it as seduction. It won't just occur to his mind and it is because he has not learnt sin consciousness. As a righteous, he sees all things as righteous. It won't even move him so much more that the seducer would be confused and in anger asks if he never for once takes notice of her. Only such seducer knows the weight of the disappointment and not this adult whose training of the way he's in now has borne and left a mark of possession or ownership on. When the Bible says, "you, train a child in the way he should go and when he's old, he'll never depart from it". It means I present a truth to you that is absolutely true. Even if we have examples today of those you know who claimed to have trained their children well yet they departed from that road, that example or many more of ministers who have the most devilish and anti Bible children still don't violate this truth. God is saying, we have drawn the curtain that no one could improve on this instruction. The result after training a CHILD, not an adolescent or adult in the way a CHILD should go is that he'll remain there like the faithful dog who stays with the hunter. The problem we're having is that we have substituted this instruction. Train children in the way to go and the blessing and consequence was given - at old age they won't depart. Yet, who we train are adults and adolescents. Those who already have a wisdom, way of life that's not God's or that of the way or the vow. Imagine. You're now proving God wrong and calling him a liar. You better make good of this instruction rightly if you'll eat the good of it.
