POWER OVER WHAT SCARES

Read Luke 10:17-20
Luke 10:19, KJV
"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you."

One of the reasons why saints couldn't represent Christ effectively is because of the fear of being hurt. If you've seen the evils of the devil and have lived amidst those who exalted his works, having absorbed him as powerful and swallowed him as very absolute, you may be very much hindered believing in God's power that overwhelms Satan's.

Jesus here was speaking to the seventy after their return. He said He has given them power to tread upon serpents and scorpions and then all powers of the enemy. They already used that same power and delegated authority. Jesus was referring to the devil, demons and everything they could manifest or invent. Jesus said He has given us power over them all.  Now, think of the power of the enemy that's in existence, that you've seen, that you don't know exists or that the devil could manifest. Jesus said the believer has been given power over such irrespective of its magnitude. Jesus said, we are empowered by the Holy Ghost to trample on them. "Trampling" or "treading" shows our dominion over them. We treat them as nothing to be scared of. We glory and reign over them in great subduing. What you can match on isn't something you obviously will see as a threat. You'll just treat it as nothing and powerless. That's what the devil, demons and all powers of the enemy should seem to us though we know the devil has power to hurt.

Look, there's nothing the devil foams by that delegated authority in Christ and God's empowerment by the Holy Ghost that you can't counter. The seventy did in that place and came feeding Jesus back what they accomplished by His name.

Now, we get to the part where fear is triggered. Jesus said "and nothing shall by any means hurt you". It means in the process of going about businesses of the kingdom for Christ, there may be potential scary things that may raise their heads to challenge you. In other words, attempt would be made by all these powers of the enemy to hurt you but Jesus assured that contrary to fear or what is popular in the minds of many people, nothing shall by any means hurt you.

One of the reasons why people don't evangelize or act on the Bible in the area of healing or power side is because they believe something will hurt them. Look, God wants you to be solidified that as you go as His representative preaching the gospel, in His Spirit, by His own guidance, doing His own work, nothing shall by any means hurt you. It doesn't mean things won't try to hurt you but what does the Bible say.

Isaiah 59:19, KJV
" So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him."

Today, let fear be dispelled. The Spirit is with you. You have heard from the head of the church Himself that nothing shall by any means hurt you. Lay hands on the sick, cleanse lepers, do all the works of an evangelist and never think their sickness or problem will transfer to you. It is not you doing it but the Spirit doing it through you. You have Him as your defender and protector.

PRAYER: I receive empowerment of God's Spirit. I dare to believe Jesus and do His works. Fear is dispelled in me.

THE TWO CHILDREN AT THE FATHER'S HOUSE

Read Luke 10:38-42

Luke 10:41-42, KJV

"41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."

There are two types of children at the father's house. One is the content seeker while the other is the distracted type. When what is germane; what will be the ingredient of their future and calling is being communicated to them, you will see that one pays attention while the other disdains that wisdom. The wisdom you don't open to, how can you absorb?

This is why some have wondered why some children are more successful than others under the same parents. Do you know one of the reasons? Some open up themselves to the wisdom of their parents than others. The others didn't have the revelation of that wisdom's importance when it was being communicated. So, it became a permanent shortage in their future life which is now visible for everyone to see. That same thing do happen in church and wherever God has set a role model or influence to impart something into those observing their lives. In the congregation of many men and under the anointing, you'll notice that some have soaked into themselves the wisdom of the model and they're getting better for it. At times, there are physical symptoms of that. They can talk, move or react to things like that same man. So, the flow that's flowing for that model unconsciously will begin to flow for them. When Jesus told the disciples that they'll do great works and greater works they'll do, do you think He was speaking to those who weren't listening or haven't been listening to His instructions? Not at all. He was speaking to true sons like Elisha who will not stop following Elijah until the mantle for ministry can't but be torn for him so he could take his place also amidst the strong and the great. No one can do great things let alone greater things who has not been hearkening to some certain instructions somewhere.

John 14:12, KJV

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."

Children who will manifest the father and manifest more than the father are those who have not detested equipping. You must decipher. You must be awake and aware. You must see and be touched. You must feel and be receptive. Stop being nonchalant. Pay attention to what pays. Ignore the minor and let what authorities give be what you're gathering.

You can have a teacher but it's not your teacher who will determine solely what you'll be. He may be the most resourceful man but if his wisdom doesn't become yours, you will be the most poor fellow in destiny and manifestation. Have you seen Martha and Mary? Have you seen students who get distracted when the teacher is communicating and experimenting with molecules at their sight? Many parents complain their children aren't doing well. Why will they since they're the Marthas in class who haven't let girls stop infatuating them, colleagues distracting them and gadgets giving them another focus. But there are Marys in the classroom/life settings and under their tutors who have learnt to give attention to whom attention is due. They're those that graduate faster and are congratulated for having done well. Upon the year's end, may you have something to show for having being under the contact of a resourceful master. Marys will always but Marthas don't always have proves.

PRAYER: Lord, where are intentional distractions programmed into my life, I refute these strange weapons of failures. I receive new focus to follow my calling or career model.

WHAT ALL OF US ARE DYING FOR

Genesis  4:4-5, KJV

"4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell."

There is one thing that all of us are dying for. It is to be commended. It is to be praised. It is to hear said to us, "well-done son or daughter".

You may not understand the plight of Cain until you've for once be in his shoe. Anyway, I am not justifying any of his conducts because he gave way to Satan. When Abel was commended because of the more excellent sacrifice he brought to God, Cain was angry and his countenance fell. Why did his countenance fall? He was also looking forward to being applauded but somehow the applause didn't go to him because he couldn't purchase a witness of having done well for himself.

Hebrews 11:4, KJV

"By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh."

Do you know it's natural for us to feel happy when we're praised? When we are not, we feel punctured or deflated. Even children that shouldn't exhibit ego enter into their shells when corrected. If they've been jumping up and down before, you'll just observe them suddenly go into silence. Until you cheer them up or try soothing them, they'll feel rejected or dejected. At your trying to recuperate them, some of them may burst into tears because they're embarrassed of having being corrected. The same happens to adults.

That's why women respond to words of affirmation and may be totally withdrawn when spoken to any how. No matter how unconcern you are or you may be, if all that comes your way is "you've not done well", I can assure you that even if you'll recover, you may first have a bowed head. This doesn't mean correction shouldn't be done or you shouldn't embrace it. You must know that it's always the corrected and perfected that can only manifest the excellence that will seem they are not accountable for when they look back.

Psalms 141:5, KJV

"Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities."

So, all of us are dying for commendation. Is it not your prayer that you'll have such report for yourself also? The report of somebody saying, "you've done well. Receive my handshake." Meanwhile, it may not be so. Many covet reward but detests the work that produces it.

When God came to Cain, God asked him, " why are you angry? Why has your countenance fallen." God was concerned for him. Like a good father, God wanted to help him out of his moodiness and perspective of believing nobody cares for him especially God who should.  God knew what the problem was. God knew if he had been accepted, he wouldn't have sulked. He would have gone from one place to the other sharing the testimony. Cain's anger therefore was a rebellion against his being corrected. His killing his brother was a rebellion against being rejected. Does that not show to you there's one thing man craves which is to be praised. If he had gotten that, nothing of what we negatively know him for would have stemmed from him.

From this teaching, we're also learning how important commendation and praise could be used to have the best of people. We know the truth must be told. God did and you must do. If anyone however refuses to heed truth when spoken, let such alone. But from this teaching, we have seen what impact praise, being accepted or commended plays and the part the other plays. The clamouring of any man is always to be accepted either by God or any other human. If that be the case, seek to satisfy authorities as to be commended. Please, don't do eye service.

Today, I want to tell you to strive for God's certification first of all. If any man praises you when God speaks otherwise, you still have not passed. There are two men on earth, those who have done worthily of praise and those who haven't. In your journey, ensure you're an Abel and not a Cain. Those of you that have done well but your reward has being given to others shouldn't worry. Your reward will always come back and in a more excellent way.

PRAYER: Father, may I not be rejected. Wherever you've given me the work of commendation, I shall not fail as a parent, husband or father.

IF YOU DO WELL

Genesis 4:6-7, KJV

"6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him."

God wants you know that there's no authority that should be terror to good work. By godly ordaining, they are to commend good and fall upon evil works or seemingly ones.

Romans 13:3, KJV

"For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:"

In today's reading, God commended Abel over Cain. Both of them brought offerings to the Lord but one won God's approval and so was commended while the other was corrected to emulate doing well also. God is seen as an authority whose right it is to commend or ask for more. He did just that.

All authorities wherever they may be must know that it's their exclusive right to be terror to evil works and praiser of good works. Never feel you'll be making enemies or make your followers/workers enemies of themselves if you give commendation to one but ask the other to do better. They may see it so but that shouldn't deter you. As long as you're not biased in rewarding, then you will have a clear conscience to implement such and continually have their respect.

God while speaking to Cain said, "if you do well, will you not be accepted?"

So, there shouldn't be any system that applauds people that doesn't do well above those that does well. If you find yourself in a system and what goes on there is the sacrifice of good for evil, then you're not well situated. Such system can destroy you and make you a man of evil intention and evil act.

God is a very just One. He exhibited fairness where we read. God isn't partial or discriminatory like Cain by his being angry feels God is. Rather, God has just discharged as a good leader should divide between those who have done well and those who haven't.

God said, "if you do well, will you not be accepted?  This shows God is not judging by any other standard but that of "doing well." God was saying, "don't think I hate you. If you had done well like your brother, I would have commended you." He knew God was justified over him. He knew he had not done well indeed. It pained him and he couldn't argue it with God. He knew just like God knew that he hadn't done well. Don't be one of such that it is at reward time they blame themselves for the job they could have done or done better.

All leaders, authority figures etc must learn from God. You must know what to encourage and discourage by what you commend or withhold commendation from. When God commended Abel, God indirectly was telling him to act that way the more and not change. When God didn't commend Cain, God was saying, there's a thing to repair. Do that and you'll be accepted. For as many that are angry, feels cheated, embarrassed, discriminated against etc, because someone was righteously and sincerely commended over you by an authority figure in your lives; you must know you're not owed an apology. The question you should ask yourself is, "if I do well, will I not be accepted?"

You should rather be sorry for not doing well and seek to win approval next time. Your person, your work or act etc that was not commended was because you didn't do well. The criteria for judging is opened to all to evaluate. It is not a mystery or a thing not explainable that could justify your not being praised. Doing well wins praise. Doing contrarily demands correction. This ain't hatred but setting right!

PRAYER: I have capacity for good inside me. I exhibit same in all human endeavour. Let the Spirit of excellence that outruns multitude to win urges me on.

LIVING JOYFULLY WHILE YOU MAY

Ecclesiastes 9:9, NIV

"9Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your vain life which He has given you under the sun--all the days of futility. For that is your portion in this life and in your work at which you toil under the sun."

You do not have time for experimentation. It is only one life you have which in every ramification must be lived to the fullest. Today, God is coming for homes and marriages. It is the intention and sweet intention of God that couples will live happily thereafter. However, many things may hamper their living joyfully as wanted.

That place admonishes men to live joyfully with their wives in the time they have to spend on earth. That place recognizes that life is short and is filled with wearying labour. Life itself with the cares to succeed can make one tired and casted down. There is nothing that seems like a reward or compensation for being here than one's spouse whom God has given one. While you therefore tarry in this momentary life of futility: which has not much to offer, you must enjoy yourself to the fullest. This ultimate satisfaction comes through living joyfully with your spouse. One way of doing that is being consoled through your wife and the wife through her husband.

You may be blessed with a good job, good things to satisfy your mouth with, build houses and study to a greater extent etc. However, all these and others don't measure the highest level of compensation you can receive during your years of futility on earth through your spouse. The picture of heaven on earth is a good home where the couple lives joyfully reciprocally. It won't be good living in clamour, arguments, and strivings with one's spouse in this fleeting life of toil. Tell me, what's in the world to enjoy within the short moment you have to spend here if not beautiful moments with the one called "lover"? Now that God has given or will give you a spouse to enjoy, shouldn't you enjoy it to the fullest? Shouldn't you explore it to the fullest?

It is unfortunate however that where the Lord wants many people's joy to come from, it is rather sadness that oozes from there. Where the Lord wants them to be strong, they are weak. Just imagine, the Lord wants you live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of your life (which flies away very soon) and can't be compared to eternity and yet you're just trying to coast along. Have you not cheated yourself like this? God intends joy for you yet you're living in sorrow and great hurt daily. The regret that fills your heart is like a deep gorge in you.

There is nothing a man can take as a reward in this life and in his lifetime that's the highest of what God intends to give him except his spouse. You may be fulfilling purpose but there will be moments when you will long to cheer yourself through a man or woman. That's where a life of joy with one's spouse comes in.

Proverbs 5:18,KJV

"Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth."

This place confirms it again. Instead of rejoicing, many homes are down casted. May you be lifted up.

Change the plans for living with your spouse. You deserve joy. If God intends it for you; then you really need it.

PRAYER: Lord, I redeem my marriage from all things contrary to joy.

SIN LIES AT THE DOOR

Read Genesis 4:1-7

Genesis 4:6-7, KJV

"6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him."

Sin lies at the door. Why is it lying there? Has it come to stay there in vain? Obviously no.

In today's reading, Cain and Abel brought their offerings to the Lord. Abel and his offering were accepted but Cain and his were rejected. God is like a kind of father here that commends one and has the right to tell the other not to give up but strive to do better. God did just that. You must know that in the Father's house and as a Christian, we don't lose our rewards. You may have been doing good, don't be weary because everything is in record. The store will be opened to you one day.

Now, when Abel was commended by God over Cain, Cain was displeased. It's normal for one's flesh to feel that way. We all want the spotlight to be on us. It's not interesting seeing your younger sibling or junior at work for instance winning the attention from those who gives it while you take the back seat. This has been the cause of sibling rivalry. When somebody does well and one doesn't do well, the other who doesn't do well may feel uneasy. That can be properly channeled however by striving to be better next time. One can disallow what could come after that which is negative from happening. That was what God was telling Cain. He was saying, "will you not be accepted if you do what's right but if you don't, sin lies at the door."

The possibility of sin coming in is very sure and it did for Cain. After he was displeased, he didn't keep watch. That led to bitter envy and contention. He motivated his brother for a walk and killed him there. He was bitterly jealous from the acceptance and commendation Abel received which he was dying to receive but didn't have. All of us must know that the sin the Bible says crouches or crawl at the door here is like Satan who is described as a roaring lion who seeks who to devour. That's the aim of the sin at the door.

I Peter 5:8, KJV

" Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

It looks for whom to prey on if any opens the door to it.  The people this teaching is addressing are those that seems hurt. God is saying, be watchful less you do the desire of sin or Satan. God warned Cain that the chances are high if you continue this way. You can't but yield to sin and he did eventually. Have you being offended, the chances are high if you won't let go to do something that will sell you out into the hands of Satan.

Don't forget this, "sin crouches at the door. It's desire is to have you but you must master it by refusing its entrance."

PRAYER: I receive healing over hurts, offences, injuries. I am made whole. All doors for sin to enter or for Satan to pounce on me are shut!

BECAUSE IT IS YOURS FROM THE LORD

Read I Kings 1, 2:1-15

I Kings 2:15, KJV

"And he said, Thou knowest that the kingdom was mine, and that all Israel set their faces on me, that I should reign: howbeit the kingdom is turned about, and is become my brother's: for it was his from the LORD."

Now, when it comes to serious matters, it should be left serious. That was what I expected from Adonijah. He shouldn't agree with someone that contested the throne with him. Meanwhile, Adonijah owned up. He said something that kept rotating in my mind: "you know I ought to be king [being the eldest living son] but the table turned and Solomon is now king because it is his from the Lord. Full stop! You could see him mourning and trying to attract sympathy. This is where this scripture below is fulfilled.

John 3:27, KJV

"...a man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven."

It departed from him because it is not his from heaven. Naturally, he ought to be king. Even, the whole of Israel was anticipating him being king but all hinges on, "is it his from the Lord?" This question should keep you humble and restrict you from striving unnecessarily. There are many who had strove for what was not released unto them from above until it was to their peril like it eventually became for Adonijah.

In yesterday's devotional, I mentioned the reality of your name being tagged on something. Once that happens, it will be reserved for you. It will await you. It's that same thing that Adonijah couldn't debate successfully here. He confessed in truth and didn't lie that it was Solomon's from the Lord.

Now, let me ask you. Who should be at peace with you - your friend or enemy? Your friend, but Adonijah that the matter of being enthroned has made an enemy of the king [Solomon] still confessed the truth. He opened up.

Saint in Christ, what is yours from the Lord may currently be under contest. That of Solomon was. As a matter of fact, the Bible recorded that Adonijah exalted himself and said, "I will be king." That statement immediately reminds you of the devil. These two are usurpers of the throne. He not only confessed, "I will be king" but he conferred with many notables, performed the rites of kingship and was installed as one. But from his own words, "the kingdom turned away from him" and the reason for that was given. Wherever you get to where there's a vacant position to fill, you'll find he that the office is his from the Lord and he that wants to scheme his way to the office. Meanwhile, let the heathen rage. Let the hills be removed and be planted in the sea; you can go to sleep over God's declaration. "What is yours from the Lord, no one can take" is what I'm professing by God's Spirit. This issue isn't one to disdain. Do you know how many people have been cheated by powers greater than they? Some have even lost their spouses to another. I'm telling you of the reality in our world. But I speak as a sent prophet to you user of today's devotional that the Lord that kept the throne for Solomon will be jealously obligated to keep what should be yours and yours alone for you. They may agitate, wanting to have a share of it or even collect it wholly but the Strength of Israel won't allow. Through today's devotional, God is  teaching you two things however.

1. Distinguish between what is yours from the Lord and what is not. God is obligated to keeping such for you. On that, He'll fight men for your sake.

2. Don't exalt yourself where you've not been exalted. Don't go near what God makes your neighbour's. If you do, God will resist you for the sake of your neighbour.

It is do unto others what you'll want them do unto you. Is it not better to take a humble position and then be called to come up hither? Should you make yourself king or they should make you one like David instructed they make Solomon to ride on his own mule? What an embarrassing thrusting of oneself forward for Adonijah!

Adonijah brought the greatest disgrace of all time on himself by wanting to make himself king when he that God is working through (David, his father who has even not suffered him of anything before was not crowning him). Here, David is a type of God that knows whose right it is and can't be taught whose right it should be. That's why Adonijah boycotted all the righteous authorities and collaborated a mutiny with those who have shown themselves disloyal to David. Yet, despite the fact that he was older than Solomon and people anticipated his being king, the kingdom still departed to Solomon.

You have an Administrator who maintains your lot. Your lot is that portion God earmarked or blessed you with. That's what He calls your own.

Psalms 16:5, KJV

"The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot."

If there be one like that to keep watch over your portion and to separate between your portion and your neighbour's, then you should be sure that all you've committed to Him can't miss nor be marauded. Wherever you've been exercising fear, go and be assured that the Lord is the One that manages your lot. He did for Solomon until what was his became his.

PRAYER: I commit to you all that is mine. Maintain my lot. All contest over what is mine ends today.
