RESPONSIBILITY OR PRESTIGE FIRST OF ALL?

READ Acts 6:1-4

Genesis 39:6, KJV

"And he left all that he had in Joseph's hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat..."

Responsibility brings prestige and not vice-versa. We must know what to give priority to that causes other things to exist. You can't seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness and not have all these things added unto you (Matthew 6:33).

In today's passage, Potiphar took no thought for anything he had except the food he ate. He has found a trustworthy fellow in whose hands everything blossoms that he could delegates to. You might therefore mistaken Joseph as the hard worker and Potiphar as the eater only! You might turn to defend Joseph for being made the donkey and abuse Potiphar for his laziness, neglect and inaction.

There's prestige in that act of Potiphar leaving all to Joseph. However, what cause it? That's typical of men of status. Many of the works they should attend to are being attended to by others. Do they just choose to be excused in order to be gallivanting around?

Despite the fact that Potiphar left all that concerns the household in the hands of Joseph doesn't make an irresponsible man out of him. It was the so many demands in his hands that warranted his looking out for whom to delegate to in the first instance. Potiphar was the chief of guards of Pharaoh. In those days, politicians do go on campaigns even outside their countries. At this time, Egypt rules as a world power. Imagine the responsibilities in the hands of any attached to Pharaoh in government. So, when Potiphar left household duties to Joseph, it was not to be sleeping and waking up but to rather give attention to utmost important things.

One thing that's typical of all high leaders is that they free their time from things that could waste it or divert it from its ultimate focus. Potiphar already had much at hand and if he'll perform effectively in order to satisfy Pharaoh who had enlisted him, he must seek to see how his works could be cushioned. Why make a priority of domestic matters when national matters cry out for help. From earning commendations for national jobs well done, domestic matters receive life, allocation and resources from which they take their being. Off course, there's a place of giving attention to family. This is where Potiphar might have missed it which might have caused the wife to descend so low as to have the head of slaves, Joseph in bed. Of course, that's who she sees daily. Potiphar was therefore revealed by this event as one that rarely stays at home. That's why it was not until Potiphar arrives that she shows him the false evidence she has against Joseph and further accuses him to him. Only a busy man is not always available.

What am I saying? If you embrace the work, you'll have the prestige. Potiphar was doing the work before it got to a place where he was too big to continue taking thought for some issues. So, he had it delegated. You can grow to a place also where your social media accounts are managed for you; where domestic workers are the ones who does the laundry, cooking and cleaning. This won't just come by desiring it but by living the life that gives it.

There's no one that gives himself to the demands of his calling or career that won't one day face the consequence of enlargement faced in verse 1 of Acts 6 that warranted needing further hands. Once enlargement steps in, such is going to be besetted on every sides and would begin to look for escapes. In seeking solutions, he'll have to drop off some lesser duties to embrace higher ones on which his life hinges to preserve his relevance. This is where the apostles of the Lamb got to before they say, "look out for yourselves men that are full of certain qualifications and let them see to this matter. As for us, we'll major in the ministry of the Word and prayer." It wasn't that they were exercising pride by saying they can't serve tables again. We knew they once did.

So, as a leader, know the wheat from the shaft. No what to delegate from what to cling to. That's your salvation from being idle also. It isn't pride that Potiphar no longer takes thought for petty issues (when a Joseph is there); higher responsibilities called him to come up hither.

Don't just salute people as the boss (those enjoying life only) or think they have all the time to spare when you discover they don't do domestic or ordinary tasks daily. No. They're still as busy or busier than before despite the jettisoning of those tasks.

Whenever there's a jettisoning, it is the elimination of a lower task for a higher and riskier task. So, the task is still tasky. So, don't covet a big status if you can't live out its responsibilities.

PRAYER: Lord, teach me what to pay attention to as I scale the ladder of leadership. May I not have misplaced priority.

WHEN MEN ARE RELIEVED

Read Exodus 8:1-15

Exodus 8:15,KJV

"But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart and hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said."

I have come to discover that when men are under fire - suffering, facing persecution or being disturbed by one challenge or the other; they seek for an escape  and won't mind getting it right away and any how. As a matter of fact, once they're cornered, they seek with all their heart a solution. In seeking a solution, you can see their desperation. They can make promises and vow to turn a new leaf after their problems are attended to. They can tell the Lord if He is the one disciplining them they would turn a new leaf if He gives them one more chance. They just want relieve.

However, these people tend to surprise God. They most times don't live up to their words. You will see them change gears and reverse backwards on the very thing they said they would do when the Lord keeps His part of the bargain.

This vividly describes Pharaoh in today's passage. Though it was God that hardens his heart for a purpose He deems fit yet we learnt one nature of man and response to situation once given an opportunity to repent and reorder his life or make amends. What's that?

God had said through Moses and Aaron "let Israel go" but Pharaoh would not. So, God began to show forth His signs. One of such was to turn their water to blood. After that came the swarm of frogs that covered the whole land. It was during this time that Pharaoh begged Moses for relieve.

Exodus 8:8,KJV

"Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the Lord, that He may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the Lord."

Did you hear Pharaoh. He meant "if God let go the frogs, I will also let go the people." Meanwhile, after being eased at the departure of the frogs and the taking away of his besetting problem, did he let Israel go? No.

Why? He saw that there was respite. At his relieve , he has left the tightness and strictness that occupies him before. His leaving that condition gives him hope not to succumb. So, he goes on to be hardened.

That's the nature of every man which Pharaoh continually exhibited until destruction sweeps over him. Give people an inch and they will go a mile. When people needs help, they prostrate and promise to be humble, do all kinds of menial jobs but what do they become when succoured? They evolve into monsters and masters. You will wonder "is that not that same fellow that was pleading for forgiveness with a promise to become a new leaf? Why has he not changed indeed even after his being succoured." It is because he is now comfortable like before and is in a good condition to go on to try the Lord. Many promises and vows made in troubles are not genuine. They are made to get miracles and solutions. That's why they're forgotten to be redeemed after getting the answers. Only a fellow with Hannah's heart will redeem his.

Don't think you can play on God and escape. Pharaoh thought God was a fool but the drama reveals the fool at the day's end. Be mindful not to promise a thing you won't fulfill when in desperation because God will not hold you guiltless.

Correct is therefore the passage that says:

Job 14:7-9, KJV

"7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.  14:8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;  14:9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant."

This hope once delivered to people can be misused and do make them go on in their old life instead of changing their ways. However, look at what God is saying about that.

Acts 17:30,KJV

"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:"

So, compromisers, repent. Truce breakers, turn a new leaf.  Sinners, become believers. Don't use this given opportunity to fight God once more.

PRAYER: Lord, may I not take for granted Your longsuffering. May I make use of forgiveness and respite and not test how powerful You are.

THE WISE TREE

Psalm 1:3, KJV

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

By the time this teaching will be ending, you will be seeing the wise man and the foolish man. These two are symbolized by the wise tree and the unwise tree. We were told that a man that does verse one and two of Psalm one will eventually become somehow. That somehow is that he will become like a tree planted by rivers of water with some certain qualities.

A tree planted by rivers of water in this context is the wise tree. It is a wise tree that is planted near a source of supply. Only a wise man can have the wisdom of correct association with a thing that will fuel it.  What concerns trees that are planted far away from the rivers of water do not concern this other tree or person who keeps verse one and two. When others are dry and are savouring help; when others’ beauty have started fading as symbolized by their leaves withering, this tree or this man will still remain robust even in dry season. So, he can’t but eventually be a wonder.

Now, I want to teach you the importance of correct association. If you look at this man said to be like a tree planted by rivers of water, he doesn’t run dry because of his association with God and His law which he meditates on day and night. Developing correct association is necessary for survival in this life because hard times will rise. There is wisdom in knowing whom to join oneself to against famine. Even the prodigal son, he learnt right association by joining himself to a citizen of that country at famine (Luke 15:15).

Now, consider the man who avoids all those mentioned in verse one and what they may have to give but have God’s law as his obsession and crush to the extent that he opens his Bible constantly to see what is written there, confirms the latest things quickened to his spirit. Such man can’t be cut off. He will literally continue when other men (other trees) have gone out of services in bearing fruits (contributing their quota where it is needed) and as at when needed. A tree planted by rivers of water will naturally take succour even at dry seasons in the fact that he has a power house from which supply can be drawn. That’s what God’s word is to us. It is a supply that we draw from daily for continuous survival. At the time that the world is shouting “casting down”, that’s what makes us shout continuously “lifting up.” That’s why we haven’t felt tired or light in spirit or at heart. That word renews us, gives us energy and refreshes us. It sets us on edge and takes away what should have been bluntness. What makes a man that has daily contact with the word have a prosperous result can’t be divorced from the inspiration, counsel, warning he has received from the word he meditates on day and night. Do you think it is easy for one to take an activity to a level of day and night? That is like taking an activity to a calling level instead of operating at a common level.

If naturally people will not deny trees water so it can survive by either watering it often or planting it where it will tap the supply of water by itself, shouldn’t you plant yourself in the word of God? Shouldn’t you make it your delight? Why is it that I can write and write and want to still write without getting tired? It is because I have planted myself and plugged myself both day and night into a supply of God’s word for daily inspiration. If a tree that has known joy and daily watering because of its plantation by rivers of water (an association that feeds it) is uprooted off that location, do you think it will continue to manifest all the positive outcomes stated in verse 3b. Nooo!

Today, I want you to identify God as the first source to cultivate intimacy with. You have already being given access to Him at salvation. You can therefore have intimacy with Him. Daily washing of your feet in the water of the word of God is how you can maintain that relationship daily like a man maintains his marital relationship with his wife by being responsible in all aspects. After this, identify men that are rivers of water from which you can draw from.

PRAYER: Lord, make You and Your Word my obsession day and night.

WHO AMONG YOU IS QUALIFIED?

John 8:7,KJV

"So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

The issue of qualification is being emphasised here. Qualification is an important thing. Unless you're qualified, has passed the test and excel in an area where you're being questioned, you might not be fit to do what you should do.

A woman was caught in the very act of adultery. She was brought to Jesus and a demand was made that she should be stoned to death according to the Mosaic law. However, they requested of Jesus what His own opinion was. Jesus then brought in the issue of qualification. He told them that it's not all of them that might be able to throw the stone except those ones that have not sinned before. Jesus checked them out. They were tested and to my utmost surprise, all of them failed. None of them passed the test of throwing even a singular stone.

This is exactly how people are failing in life. Many people looks like the qualified but aren't qualified. They have the title but don't have the life. What will show them as not having the qualification required for the task to be done will appear one day.

Imagine the number of people who had been protesting to get the job done. They wanted to throw stones but what happened after they  were put to test? All of them left from the eldest to the youngest. Their hearts convicted them. None of them passed and could throw the stone. They were all found wanting after being weighed. They were found unfit despite their own confession to be able to do the job. Some of them might have probably picked up stones (the tools) to even get the job done (execute the woman) but all was dropped eventually because they were disqualified. They got ready (for stoning) but were not ready indeed.

May you be found worthy for the task. May you not be exposed as incapable or deficient in getting the job done after examination.

PRAYER: Lord, I purge myself of any sin as a minister that will deny my entrance into a kingdom task. I shall not be found wanting or barricaded against in doing a God given task. I shall pass the test and be the right man for the job.

A MAN OF LIKE PASSION

James 5:17,KJV

"Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months."

Passion is what equalizes all of us. Elijah, the great man of God was just like any one of us. He has feelings, affections and a constitution like ours. Meanwhile, he was also able to live beyond being human because he was able to exercise his divine side. That was the part that makes him not look like a man of like passion with the constitution of ours. Because of being a man of like passion, that could have restricted and hindered him from living the God life. This part which is divine however that anointed men of God constantly exhibits is what has deceived many into sinning. They thought "I'm not prone to falling again." Raising the dead is not a guarantee that you can't backslide. Aren't you still having human affections?

On another note, that Elijah wrought the supernatural is an assurance that while we're humans in this flesh and while we still exhibit our human nature yet we can live under the divine constitution. That Elijah was a man of like passion means he was consequently opened to all the challenges you're facing and complaining about now in the flesh. There were moments his own body moved too. He only had to subdue it. He felt hunger e.t.c also.

Even our men of God today and those we call daddy or mummy have parts of the opposite sex they like and are falling for. That makes them truly a man of like passion that is vulnerable to temptation, seduction and even backsliding just like anyone. Our frame is dust: still flesh and blood though we may be anointed or fire brand. So, beware and take caution around the opposite sex.

The disciples were men of like passion also. That's why they experienced weakness to pray somewhere.

Matthew 26:40, KJV

"And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto peter, what, could ye not watch with me one hour?  26:41 watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

If you're too tired to pray (which is not an excuse for that exercise), it's because you're a man of like passion. Angels don't get tired. It is in the nature of man to be tired.

Even Paul was a man of like passion. That's why Paul said " I put my body under." He knows being unguarded for a minute can wreck down all his years in Christ. That's an exercise that everyman of like passion must do daily or else you may not know when you'll stray in thoughts and begin to sleep with someone in your heart. Consequently, you can do it live. You will feel sexually aroused as a correct man of like passion but you must keep your body under until you're married or until you have your partner ready (if married) to communicate ministration to you (I Corinthians 9:27).

Why did Paul keep his body under? He was a man of like passion with blood, cold blood running through his veins. Please, don't do counselling behind close doors nor start prayer with the opposite sex and hold hands. Doing so is wanting to reap consequences. Can a man carry fire in his bosom and not be burnt?

Let's ask "why did Paul counsel that every man should have his own spouse?" It is because he knows we're men of like passion. That's why he said "in order to avoid fornication." He knows only humans can commit fornication and not angels. Our own make up makes us men of like passion. Knowing that is the key for building defences.

I Corinthians 7:2-3, KJV  "Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband"

These are just a run through of the fact that we are men of like passion who is susceptible to weakness, failure, fear, temptation, hunger, thirst, pressure e.t.c that a human being like us will be opened to.  In the light of this, we will know how to behave and take preventive measures which will keep our body under subduing. As bitter as it is, no man can kill being a man of like passion because that's why he still feels hungry, thirsty or sleepy. We can only control and subdue the exhibition of the nature in man that can bring him into sin.

PRAYER: Lord, may I not be deceived that I need not to take caution in life even as a man of like passion.

THOSE/WHAT WANTS TO BREAK YOU

READ II Kings 6:24-33,7:1-20

II Kings 6:24,KJV

"And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria."

Benhadad was a wise man. He didn't engage in a direct battle with Samaria nor go confrontationally and have casualties. He besieged and refused to leave except Samaria by itself surrenders. The brain behind besieging is to surround with armed forces for the purpose of compelling to surrender (not by war this time but by voluntariness that comes from a necessity). To get this done, Benhadad came with all his army to lay siege. He didn't reserve any. He wanted to ruin Samaria once and for all and he didn't withhold any weapon or resource that could ensure that. Companied with this, he also came with enough provision that could be lived upon by his forces until Samaria grows tired and surrenders. Benhadad was looking for a voluntary surrendering from Samaria and he sure hoped getting one. He won't go coercive as in a battle. He had chosen that method of war without weapons to compel Samaria to surrender when they reach their breaking point. He was waiting for a time when the king would say "I surrender. I'll be under tribute. You can retreat."

Did it get there? Almost. Things actually turned sour against Samaria as planned by the Syrians. Samaria was being broken day in day out as the Syrians gave persistence to continue to besiege them. They even got near final breaking point. At a time, only a strand was left of Samaria to be broken. This was the time Syria's expectation of victory rose.

II Kings 6:25,KJV

"And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver."

Have you seen that? It even got to head and people resolved into feasting on humans! Sure enough, all these were the expectations of Benhadad and his forces. They had said to themselves "let Samaria alone. Once they get tired and get to a breaking point (where they could no longer bear with this method of ours nor contain hunger), they'll cry up for relieve and shall surrender." That was their heartbeat against Samaria and this had started happening already. The besieging had created a terrible famine while the famine had made townsmen cannibals! Aren't they obviously near surrendering?

However, there was a u-turn of event to the disgrace of the Syrians. God put them to flight while Samaria took advantage of this to plunder their camps and get relieve. This was how Samaria survived being broken eventually. It was then Samaria had the testimony of Paul that says "We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed." II Corinthians 4:8-9,KJV

Syria had written their will and predicted their destiny but there was a reversal of the order.

Samaria though had had casualty survived this great besieging and emerged to amend in stature again. May you also recover and surpass the thoughts of those who are waiting for you to be broken so you could look unto them for life. May your being broken: defeated, put to shame, embarrassed or seek relieve from an enemy e.t.c be ever postponed for evermore.

PRAYER: God of interception and prophecy, invade and supervise my life with your superordinate will that stands above the enemy's acts.

WHY SOME WASTE THEIR TIME

 WHY SOME WASTE THEIR TIME

https://chat.whatsapp.com/FZHr5T8acgoFDpe3LxPhm9

Join Us @ Above!

Let's talk!

I want you know it is better to be busy, so occupy that you'll need to search for a breathing space for yourself. One of the things that has helped and is helping me is that I have works to do. I mean works that spread round the clock - one that has filled all the gaps of my twenty four hours.

That thing is more advantageous to all of us that have works to do than it has been disastrous.

When I look at my life, the lives of other serious minded people in my generation; I concur I must not lessen the working of this principle in my life. I must keep on taking much tasks. It's better to be daily called to come up hither than to be suddenly reduced.

Have you not observe it - that people who have less work to do are careless with their time? Since they're assured of much time in their hands, come and see procrastination. You'll be hearing a thing like, "I'll still do it" ; "don't worry, there's still time."

Do you want to know why they deceptively console themselves with these dangerous statements - thereby coming to a place of soulish satisfaction that they're in control?

...because they seem to have much time with little works to fill it with! However, if you know if you don't do a job immediately, you would bear its brunt, won't you be prompt in using your time?

If you have much work to do daily, the twenty four hours would look to you like it is no longer enough. Since time is therefore not enough for you, you dare not joke to utilize it. So, there's no carrying over of activities. You utilize time by being forcefully brought to the acknowledgement that you can't let your own time slips. If I watch a movie, it's the last thing and it is always purposefully chosen. Now, no accidental movie - like I stumble on them and it's interesting and decide to watch with them. No! That time has it's own purpose. I'll rather collect, reschedule and watch it later.

I have been continuously brought to separate myself from men's common practices because of my daily obligations. When you have demands that must be settled daily with time appropriated to them, you know you can't live carelessly. Is it the devotional I'll allow to be sent at 9am? That's too late. People have even hit their work places at 6:30am. Even when we send it at times at 7:00am, we beg God for mercy because it is Him we have to do with.

I looked at one man in the Bible, whose name was famous. He occurs in many books of the Bible including Revelation. That was David!

David was trapped when he relieved himself of his duties. You must know that assignment will protect you from backsliding and having time for irrelevancies. Meanwhile, if you seem to have eternity as time in your hands, you will be tempted to be careless with how you spend it. You're not to blame. Since you don't have enough works for your much time, you can't but slip into irrelevancies

II Samuel 11:1, KJV

"And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem."

This deputizing of David costs him a lot in this life. The spot in his white garment came as a result of that. From there, internal family problems like incest, murder, rivalry e.t.c. entered.

So, what's the consequence of this act?

II Samuel 11:2, KJV

"And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon."

You know the rest of the story. If David was at the battle, could 10,000 naked women get his attention? Can you so much love women as to directly and outrightly desire you die?

Won't you want to mind the arrows, the clashing of swords e.t.c. Even if you were drunk in an amorous thought, the whining of horses and blood spilling would catch your attention.

What's the message? What couldn't get David because he was always occupied got him when he was relaxed of his tasks. That's why many former fellowship excos, church or other holders of spiritual/public offices do become something else after leaving the office. Do you know why? After they left, they didn't hold themselves to higher responsibilities like before.

The office you're occupying can hold you to a higher responsibility than you'll have held yourself without being in office. It can call you to a higher living and tie you down to responsibilities.

While I was on campus, I was three presidents in three places during my final years. Yet, I've been serving since 100 level as an exco. In those offices with their demands, I obviously couldn't act anyhow. I couldn't talk anyhow. I couldn't go to some places for vain reasons. More so, because of the many demands of these three offices on me at the same time, I managed the little time that excoship had left me. That's why I still graduated with a good grade. Meanwhile, people with lesser responsibilities became consoled that they had all days and could take their time on things. So, they went easy or cozy on themselves.

That's why many people still didn't graduate with very good grades despite not having responsibilities like many excos of many fellowships while on campus.

Once you know there are many demands on your time, there's one thing you can't bargain. That's "how do I utilize this little left". That's what others with eternity don't consider.

Now, I have left campus more than five years ago and it is easier to be careless because I've left all the works that kept me busy. Meanwhile, if I don't want to have a history like David's, I must always be busy

One day, I checked one of my campus' preaching diary and I saw that I had to minister in 10 places in a week! There was a week like that. I was shocked. That came because I was the campus' president, Chapter's president and then my fellowship's president. I could remember those days. I was dashing out preaching engagements and using some to train excos that would take over after me. I could remember I sent the Bro. I handed over to in my fellowship on one of the engagements to minister at a fellowship's prayer band's retreat.

May I tell you the truth. Since I've left campus, I've never had a week, even a month I had 10 preaching engagements on ground.

A lesson that opportunities don't come often. If you get it, use it well.

Now, what other things can I do to be strongly occupy like that of  those days. If I don't do it, I won't enjoy my being because those stretching days had already created a capacity in me to do much things without complaining of tiredness. That's why till today, I can write many teachings in a day. You're a witness that my own teachings are always long. I had to learn brevity because of many requests not to weary men. God can't be finished but men can be wearied.

Today, I work in the secular and does ministry. As I'm nurturing my career; I'm growing my calling. My goal is to become a Professor of African Literature while my destiny is to become a renown minister with impact that touches the ends of the earth. These are the two things I'm dying for. If the works become too strong one day, career would have to be phased out for calling. That's the summary but if I should outline my daily routines, you'll flee!

What makes my time not enough are the daily things I do. My fiancée is the only one that could testify of how often I sleep in the night.

My rest in the night is few. That's why I try doing little sleep in the day. Why? There are just so many things to attend to. I have one lifetime but my marks must be left here. I'll wear out all my assignments before God calls me to Himself.

So, assignments will preserve your life. Don't lessen its effect. Take much work. Laden yourself. Don't fear sickness. Don't fear stress. Don't pity yourself. Like that demon possessed man that was hurting himself with stones day and night, without considering its effect (anyway, because he was mad), do same in wisdom that doesn't fear consequences of extremity.
