JOY IN FULL

John 16:24, KJV

“Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.”

God is after our joy being full. A man without full joy will have diminished strength. He will not be full of activity nor zealous to participate actively in life. He will just be coasting along. There are those that are looking unto God for one thing or the other. This thing has become too tarried that they have lost appetite even for spiritual things. Fervency is reducing and there is a weariness not to continue hoping in their soul. When we gather, we do not know who is crying because everything tends to be good at appearance. He is well dressed with smell of perfume vibrating all around but who knows if such fellow’s joy isn’t complete. While he is well off in other areas yet there is an area that seems he has not received answers. So he is inadequate, deficient and handicapped. Some needed to be married at least for their joy to be complete. She is over thirty and nobody is forthcoming. Some needed to give birth even if it is once so that their joy will be fulfilled. Some need healing and deliverance from a sickness that has made itself a drama so that their joy may be complete. Just various needs.

Fullness of joy is in the presence of God. The Bible also says the joy of the Lord is your strength. If a man’s joy is however lacking, it will show in the reluctance and inactivity of that fellow. He won’t be willing to engage in day to day businesses as it ought to be because he will be feeling a sense of being cheated and derided a thing.  He won’t just be delighte. A thing is eating up his soul, causing pain and disturbance (Nehemiah 8:10).

Naomi was such a woman whose joy was not complete until Obed was brought forth. What did her neighbours say?

Ruth 4:14-15, KJV

“14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be the Lord, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. 15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of thy life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons hath born him.”

They knew that Naomi was no longer herself since the lost of her husband and children. Since she came back empty, her life has been eaten away. Nourishment came back to her at the birth of this baby boy who could continue in the name of the dead. As a matter of fact, his birth restored Naomi’s life. She was hurriedly aging but when her joy was complete, life was renewed to her and she senses a reason to continue to live on. It was then life made sense.

David knew what it means for one’s joy not to be complete. He knows such will be lacking in the exhibition of strength. So he said:

Psalm 51:8, KJV

“Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.”

Broken bones inside a man is the state of his heart. He is in a depressing mood. His head is bowed inside him like a reed. No encouragement. He just lives to cope with life until something happens that will awaken his innermost. Like a resurrected person from the dead, he will suddenly be conscious of a new life. Jacob was a dying man until he saw evidences that Joseph was alive. When he heard joy and gladness, a kind of revival surged in him. He was made firm.

Genesis 45:27, KJV

“And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father was revived".

That was the soul that was contented to settle for less and just ebb away like that. At the hearing of good news, there was a return of life and vitality, hope and strength to it. By the reason of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, I collect joy for you so that your strength may be complete. Anything denying you joy is judged. A special access has been given you today to ask for your joy and it shall not be denied you.

PRAYER: Make my joy indeed full. Let your joy be my strength. Revive me; let me be robust and full of activity. I refuse to be bowed down but joy in the victory Jesus bought me. Today, I begin to hear joy and good news.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Numbers 24:1-25:18; Luke 2:1-35; Psalm 59:1-17; Proverbs 11:14
