MORNING WINGS DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE - Olusola ADEJUMO

WHY YOU MUST BE SEARCHED BY THE LORD

Psalms 139:23-24,KJV

"23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:  24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting."

Why do we sieve things? It's to separate the shaft from the wheat. Without sieving, the shaft will be taken with the wheat and that won't be fine. A man's heart is like a house that many things could be filled with. Only that the house seems like an underground house. This house could contain correct and incorrect things. When a man allows God to try him; that is run a check on his heart, he will be helped to discover what on his own he might not discover. The light of men and its inspection may not thoroughly peruse through and drag out issues from the nooks and crannies but God's will.

One major person that can examine you correctly without missing an iota of motive that's in your heart is God. Deep down your belly, God through His search light can see where dirts are settled at the bottom of your hearts. When He goes to and fro in His check, you will be surprised at the things God will raise to the surface in your life. He will raise issues with you that needs urgent attention.

Imagine a swimmer who dives into a river to get the sand at its bottom. Do you know that his hand can gather with the sand things like stones, broken pieces of glasses and other materials? Out of all these things, it's only the fine sand that he approves of. He does away with other things.

Psalms 26:2, KJV  "Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart."

God tries the rein. The inward part is not hidden before him. The thoughts of your hearts and the motives behind your actions are very visible to Him. Until He examines and weighs them, He wouldn't bring out a thought or motive that's wrong. You may be saying something but mean another yet God who tries the rein knows what is what by discernment. A man can't be called upright until a check is done on his heart. The condition of his heart is what matters and not the countenance he projects out primarily.

When the psalmist asked God to search him, it was a request he made out of desperateness of being made perfect or one made out of wanting to proof his being neat at heart before God. He called God to run His test which doesn't make mistakes nor fail to collect what ought to be collected so that if there are imperfections in his life, they might be detected. The prayer of this psalmist is of one who wants revival. It is of one who wants to be used by God. It is of one who withholds nothing from God and won't even keep any iota of secret. It shows surrendering and unshamed intention. Do you know you don't know yourself really well? God knows you. That's why you need to pray often that God will try your heart and help you detect: by showing to you what problems still need to be fixed and put right in your life.

Until then, many wicked ways will still lie quietly in you waiting to blow up one day. Envy may be seething at your heart's bottom. The root of bitterness may be boiling there from deep wounds of offence. Exposing them now to you comes with their elimination. When such are tracked down, the next thing is to be led in the way everlasting which means a state of walking in perfection before God.

PRAYER: Lord, try my heart and see if there is any wicked way in me. Check my goods and see if there are smuggled goods that need to be collected. You're the custom officer.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Kings 14:1-15:24, Acts 10:1-23, Psalm 133:1-3, Proverbs 17:7-8.
