MOVING WITH FEAR - I Believe Series 002

Hebrews 11:7, KJV

"By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith."

I concluded with a statement yesterday. "Many things in the Bible or let us say in reality would happen to test your believer's status." We've seen how Lot's sons in law are at all not believers. Believers are those who heard and promptly obeyed - acting on what they have heard. How smooth would it have been for them to have left with Lot? However to them, the preaching of the cross is just foolishness. It was high sounding to hear that Sodom was to be destroyed. They just couldn't fathom it!

God will like us to learn a lesson from the relationship of Lot's daughters and his sons in-law. My prayer is that you won't get where you as a Christian sees nobody fit of you for marriage than a heathen or unbeliever. If we were to dissect things in truth, Lot's sons in law are unbelievers if taken in comparison with her daughters. While Lot and his household believe in the reality of prediction and Sodom being destroyed, this Lot's sons in law didn't. The Bible says, "Lot seems like one who mocks to them" (Gen.19:14). They were as dead as stone when they should have been responsive - moving with fear to the saving of their souls. If Lot's daughters had eventually married these two heathens, they wouldn't have made the home atmosphere conducive for them. While Lot's daughters would believe in worship of God, they might be idol worshippers or atheists. When Lot's daughters are claiming to have had a vision signalling God's communication and warning, they'll say there's nothing like God speaking to any human being. We got wind of this through their unbelieving act and how they didn't move a bit when they heard the information that was terrifying and should have made them run.

However, Noah isn't like these Lot's sons in law. Our verse for today says, "being warned of God of things not seen as yet, Noah moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his people, by which he condemned the world..." (Heb.11:7).

When you don't know God - the God of the Christians - the One revealed only in the Bible, it's possible to mock when you hear something about the Bible and Jesus Christ. You'll just won't believe it except it mixes with faith in your heart. Noah heard like Lot's sons in-law heard but the difference is that, "Noah moved with fear." He so much esteemed and revered what God said as coming to pass that he went on immediately to start making plans and putting preparation in place for the coming flood. He didn't say, "it can't happen. Flood on the earth! From where will it come? How will it start? He didn't reason it. He believed God against all reason and this made him a believer. It was a high sounding truth he believed. However, the world is lost in its busy and thoughtless activities of eating and drinking (in revelry), marrying and giving in marriage until the day Noah entered the ark and knew not when the flood came and took them all away..." (Matt.24:38).

When you hear things of the Bible, how do you react to it? Do you disdain it like Lot's sons in-law or you move with respect and act on it in total obedience like Noah? That's the mark that separates a believer from an unbeliever or else none of us would have gotten born again too? May we be this alive - moving promptly in obedience and utmost reverential fear when the Lord and His messengers speak to us His Word and His declarations. May you fall on your face where need be, confess where need be and turn a new leaf as need be.

PRAYER: Lord, I call my heart a heart of flesh. I am responsive. I am alive to every instruction that'll be medicine to my soul and life to my spirit.

ARE YOU A BELIEVER? - I Believe Series 001

Genesis 19:14, KJV

"And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law."

Are you a believer? Being a believer doesn't only mean believing in Jesus or receiving Him into your life at the new birth. That may be the crux of your Christianity as you cannot become anything in the Christian journey without first starting as a believer - by being born again. However, a believer believes. Do you have a believing heart? Do you easily believe the truth? Do you have the trait of someone who's responsive even to high sounding truths?

It is clear that God wants to bring destruction to Sodom. The very reason for which God wanted to destroy it, for which God had sent heavenly inspectors to verify was still what the angels disguised as men experienced first hand. The dwellers are just dirty - having changed the natural usefulness of sex. Why would men desire to have sexual relations with men? Isn't that absurd? That's the sin of Sodom. If we look at our world today, we'll see that it's the sin that our world is becoming guilty of now. If you're full of perspective and understanding, you'll see that God didn't wipe out Sodom until they have violated sexual boundaries that the Lord set. Violating sexual boundaries isn't a sin that the Lord takes for granted. It is a sin that even points heavily to the judgement to come just like its doers in the days of Lot were all destroyed.

However, that's not where I'm going. Did you observe that in wanting to save Lot and his household, the angels he accommodates unawares tell him to quickly bring out his people from the city if he had any. That's the benefit of entertaining strangers. Like we saw yesterday, you might entertain angels unawares.

Genesis 19:12, KJV

"And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:"

The moral is this. From inception, God always separates between the wicked and the righteous. Psalm 125:3-4 says, "the rod of the wicked will not fall upon the land allotted to the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to iniquities." "When the wicked are being taken, you'll only watch with your eyes and see the reward of the wicked" (Psalm 91:7-8).

Now, the only persons that Lot could claim to have in the city were his sons in law. They are the men who'll marry his daughters. They might have been engaged to them already. However, these men refused to heed the warning of Lot. They are not believers! A believer believes in truth even when it is high sounding. Is it not high sounding that Jesus died, resurrected and ascended to heaven to live forever (Acts 1:11)? Don't you think it is high sounding that when Jesus died, He fought death to declare His victory over death (I Cor.15:55)? Don't you think so? Yet, you believed. Somehow, you had the faith to believe and at the end, that makes you a believer. However, these sons in law of Lot refused. The Bible says, "Lot seems to them a mocker" or in a better language, "a comedian." They see him as someone who's drunk or has gone mad. How could he say God is visiting this city with judgement and that they needed to leave ASAP! Their thoughts are, "how possible? We've lived in this city all our life. What has been happening has not just been happening? How's it that it's now that one destruction wants to come? All is fallacy! Fallacy it is!" As such, Lot seems to them as he that is drunk.

This is the ingredient that is lacking in the world. This is why the preaching of the cross is foolishness to many out there (I Cor.1:18). I've seen people mock Jesus, His death and the gospel while sharing it with them. Some would even tell you, such things made no sense. This earth will last forever. If we humans don't last forever on earth, what assures you that the earth itself would last forever. Has faith and the ability to believe being destroyed or bastardized in you? God wants that to be repaired. I'm such a believer of what is faithfully reported that at times, people call me gullible. However, I'm not. The Holy Spirit has warned me of dangers that I believed which separated me from the experiences of many others. Brothers and sisters, are you a believer still? Are you still believing or there are things that are too hard for you to believe in the Bible? Do you think angelic visitation is a fallacy? Do you think healing and miracles are false? Then, you need to confront that in the light of the scriptures. When the preacher preaches and what he says turns no one but he seems like a mocker to them, it's because those he's speaking to are unbelievers that faith didn't miss with the message in their hearts. May you remain a believer at heart O ye Christian! May you believe in God when He speaks to you! May you even move with fear when He speaks. May you escape the damnation to come even as you believe in Jesus' second coming and judgement awaiting our world. May you fall before your face, confess your sins and welcome Jesus into your heart. There is the born again experience!

PRAYER/CONFESSION: I'll not refuse the salvation story that'll preserve me. I believe because I'm a believer.

ENTERTAINING ANGELS

Hebrews 13:2, KJV

"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

How do we entertain strangers when we know that many may not share your good will for them? We know the kind of world we are in now. Considering it is the winding down of the age, the populace of evil events has seriously increased. Men can do the unthinkable or even seek to take advantage of you if they know you're open and kind-hearted. Then, how should we fulfill this verse?

Growing up was in a community where myth and rumours were spread and usually believed. Many are such pictorial calendars that were rolled out de-emphasizing the receiving of strangers. One such myth or rumour I heard was a stranger who walked into a community needing a place to sleep but fortunately was guided to a mosque. Guess what happened when it was morning? He had become a big snake as told us! In one story, he had turned into a coffin. Then the moral, "thank God no one person took him in." If you've been fed with scenes and images from stories like this, it is hard believing any stranger comes around with good intentions.

However, the Bible is advising contrarily. It didn't say however, don't take precaution or exercise discernment. We should let our fears, bias and prejudice dissipate to entertain strangers because some have entertained angels unawares. There's a blessing God does not want us to miss for which He gives us that verse. It is the blessing that comes with entertaining angels in human uniform unawares. When you do or if we look at those who did in the Bible, we'll observe that those angels were heralds of blessings to them. For instance, when Abraham saw three men, he ran to meet them and persuaded them intensely and repeatedly to come and refresh themselves before they'll be on their way. By entertaining and refreshing them with meat, remembrance of Sarah by God was hinted at and the long awaited blessing was situated and predicted for a time (Gen.18:1-15).

Lot had that same experience. He was at the city gate when he saw certain strangers that he wouldn't allow to go their way considering it was almost night time. He had to bring them into his house to refresh and shelter them. They were the ones who delivered and hasted him out of the city or else, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah would have overtaken him (Gen.19:1-17).

Angels still do go on errands but as disguised, needing help from human beings messengers. If you can see or be sensitized to the needs of others and not refrain, you might entertain angels  unawares and get the blessing that comes with it.

We shouldn't get to a place where we shut the bowel of our compassion to strangers because we've once been disappointed by rude rogues who robbed us blind or brought harm to us. If we should close our eyes totally to the entertaining of strangers, we'll miss God's messengers in critical moments when we need their ministration or help. It takes a lot of sensitivity to see that these ones hanging around should be brought into my home. I have travelled far and wide in my country and I had slept in different places, taken in for months even by people I never knew without one slight recommendation from any human being to them about me. They could have had witnesses or conviction because I found out they were beyond average Christians later. In turn, I have served some of these men I dwelt with like Moses and Jacob served Jethro and Laban respectively. I also didn't withhold. God didn't say, refer them to your pastor or locality chief so they can stay in the personage. Only that you could hint it to the authority and go ahead with the act.

Have the heart to do according to this scripture and when such opportunity avails itself, you'll be sensitized to those that you should bring in even if you cannot distinguish them as angels. They may be mere men to you and may not even change in appearance to look supernatural but indeed in our real world, many have contacted angels in the flesh who were dressed just like any normal citizen. I pray for you that you'll know your time. You'll know the time that has come upon you and you will not miss your season and agents of visitation. You'll be full with ears all over your body to know who to receive and who to decline - for they are harbingers of evil instead of messengers of good tidings. Today, I call you blessed, opening your perception to see your angel in a human robe; your gold wrapped in rags!

PRAYER: Lord, I submit to Your command to entertain strangers. Grant me special perception at such moments of peak visitation.

GOD IS MY KING OF OLD!

Psalms 74:12, KJV

"For God is my King of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth."

Is God your King of old? Could you say, "the God of ages past and my hope for years to come?" If you can say this, it means you just didn't begin with God. Your journey with Him began sometime ago - far back into the past. You have known Him, His ways and His works. You have tasted of His goodness and His mercies. You have witnessed His deliverance in tight corners and escape when it is due and seriously anticipated. As such, you could call him rightly by His name, "my King of old." He's the One you've taken several steps under His direction without failing.

God is not "the King of old" to everyone. If you haven't journeyed with Him and He with you; if you haven't experienced Him and He hasn't been the One accompanying you till now, then it is unnecessary saying, "you're my King of old." If you make such a claim, you have to show us evidence that makes God your King of old - who works salvation (deliverance) in the midst of the earth.

This Psalmist knows God experientially. He has tasted of God's power in past times and from the multitudes of having experienced God that way, he now speaks calling, "God his King of old." As in, "One who was there for him and would now be there at this time of need in the present."

Let me give you another verse of the Bible to compare this verse I'm explaining with. David says, "the Lord who delivered me from the paws of the lion and the bear will deliver me from this uncircumcised Philistine" (I Sam.17:37). In essence, God is his King of old. He referred to God who helped him over his past challenges in old times being available at the present moment to render an immediate help.

God is not only God who has been existing for ages or one who we have known and have been walking with for awhile and then of whom we have tasted and could talk of His power but one who "works salvation in the midst of the earth." New International Reader's Version of the Bible puts it this way. "God, you have been my king for a long time. The whole earth has seen you save us over and over again."

Do you think the Psalmist was just invoking God that way? No! He needed a new help but he first acknowledged God as his King of old. If He saved him over and over again in the past, He can't be powerless or handicap doing so now.

If you've known Him as your King of old, I tell you that He is mighty to save now. The Bible says, "God is our present help in trouble" (Psalm 46:1). Your King of old won't desert you now! He knows you and you know Him. How could He jettison you now? The One who was once faithful will be faithful again. Today, I'm joining my faith with yours to rouse our King of old to stand up for your matter. Where do you need God to show forth as He Who has always been with you? Where do you need Him to manifest as He Who has never left or forsook you? He's showing up now! Your King of old; my King of old; our King of old is showing up! Your situation trembles!

PRAYER: Welcome, my King of old. Never disappointing but on time. Answer as O God of ages past and my hope for years to come.

DO YOU KNOW THAT THE LORD WILL TAKE YOUR MASTER FROM YOUR HEAD TODAY? - Taken From Your Head Series 005

II Kings 2:3, KJV

"And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace."

We've been on "losing loved ones, being left comfortless but eventually comforted." I'll like us trace the loss of Elisha and how God replenished or comforted him.

It's very obvious that Elijah is to be taken away to heaven and the news of the same is not hidden since we read that everybody keeps saying to Elisha, "do you know that the Lord will take your master from your head today?"

This saying repeats itself twice. First, it was said by sons of the prophets at Bethel and then at Jericho to torment and portray the comfortless situation Elisha would soon find himself in. So, they persistently told him, "do you know that your 'libido' would soon reduce because the Lord will soon take your master from your head today?

Let us start our analysis. They said, "...take your master from your head." We put things on our heads to give shelter or covering. It could be a cap or hat from the sun or an umbrella from the rain. Elijah gets described as a cover or shelter for Elisha. They said, "do you not know that God will take away your master (cover or shelter) from your head today."

The mentioning or the idea of the head suggests Elijah is Elisha's covering. Elijah is therefore the hat on Elisha's head who protects him from being beaten by the metaphoric rain or sun of life. To remove this precious covering off his head would therefore leave his head coverless, shelterless. He'll therefore be comfortless! This is everybody's expectation. All the other sons of the prophets who might have envied Elisha till now because he's being discipled by a greater prophet are now in a rejoicing mood. They're now thanking their stars for not being the one whose discipler and cover would be removed that day. They know the consequence, that it would mean remaining an orphan. And we all know how life treats orphans who are not old or strong enough to stand or maintain integrity against the unfairness of life.

However, their expectations were forever banished. It didn't come to pass over Elisha. They expected that it would be unto him according to their words. They looked across Jordan in expectation that when he returns, he'll do so mourning and expressing all sorts of hopelessness.

II Kings 2:6-7, KJV

"6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on. 7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan."

It doesn't matter how many have gone to stand and view afar off how you would fare, you'll always return with the ingredient that'll make them take and regard you as the next deal. Your journey won't be a return in empty handedness.

II Kings 2:15, KJV

"And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him."

Though his cover was blown away or taken off from his head, he didn't feel the loss or indulge in that loss because what can make him a father like his father is what he has just received - a double portion of Elijah's spirit. When God brings compensation into your life for certain losses, you become indeed compensated for. Was Elisha mourning and asking how he would cope with life or how well he would live after Elijah was taken or he went about expressing in the anointing authoritatively?

Those of you with this kind of loss - whose parents, sponsors or covers have been removed from their heads, may God give you grace, favour, gift of men or wealth even through jobs you'll get by which you can provide for yourselves and not become vulnerable ones. Anyone with the loss of his or her cover, be restored. Receive a new cover or what can succinctly stand in to save you from being comfortless. The thought of Elisha was, "if Elijah should leave and I still can't do his work effectively in power", I would be at a loss for ever.

However, he was provided for. He went after what would save him from being a needy when Elijah - the one who meets all needs and attracts honour and respect through his anointing leaves. He gat the anointing for himself and his use also. Or else, he'd be comfortless and ineffective to live life after the departure of Elijah. It'll be too disgraceful going back to the farming he once left.

I pray for you, you won't be at a loss. Before the master of your trade dies, may you have mastered or known the secrets of the trade. Before the man whom God has ordained you get an anointing transfer from is taken away, may you have lived seriously enough to have been imparted - receiving an anointing transfer. If such should die or be taken away without your having become somebody, you'll hate or regret it afterwards. I pray, you'll learn, receive and be a beneficiary of every lessons of fathers while the sun still shines.

PRAYER: I am a beneficiary of the Lord and His anointed around me. I pay attention to gather the ingredients of my destiny.

WHEN THE BROOK DRIES - Taken From Your Head Series 004

I Kings 17:8-9, KJV

"8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, 9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee."

This teaching is a continuity on where I stopped yesterday. God comforted Elijah when the declaration that causes famine went effective. We saw how He did through yesterday's teaching. Today, I'll push further.

Do you remember that the brook did dry up. When it does, what did God who sees and knows say? Hear the Bible, "and the Word of the Lord came unto him, saying, arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee."

Did you see God's next move in seeing that Elijah wasn't left comfortless (needy)? He moved him by His precious voiced Word to where he could be provided for again.

I love the usage of language in that verse. A part of that verse says, "I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee." Mark the word, "sustain!" It means to keep you alive. From sustain, we have sustainance. Sustainance is what you take a living by. What helps you continue as a living soul. Something like food you know. That's why the Bible says in Matthew 4:4, "man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from God's mouth."

If that verse is correctly interpreted, it means humanity or man takes a living through feeding of himself. What he feeds or eats is therefore what he's sustained with.

So, when God says, "I have ordained a widow woman there to sustain you", it means one who'll feed you to just keep you alive. It means there'll be food for your body. It doesn't necessarily mean there'll be food enough for Elijah to say he wants to gather riches by selling food items.

God has plans for any of his sons and daughters irrespective of where they are. It's not His intention to leave you comfortless (needy) after losing a job. No! He wants to equate you to become better and continue. He doesn't want you to say, "how I wished I was in my good old days?" No! God rather wants to cause a new season over you that'll make you know continuity.

Today, has one source of livelihood fail in your life? Another shall answer you now! God moves people on. They don't remain static when things are static. They rather progressed. Elijah progressed when things were static and so will you. If God had not met the needs of Elijah, he would have been left comfortless. Someone who was able to feed himself would now become handicapped. However, God disallowed that. Elijah rather knows continuity and several shifts. You too, irrespective of what you have lost in this life, that is not your end. God will move you on. You'll continue and in moving you on, you'll be comforted and have no reason to lament you ever lost one source of income or whatsoever.

PRAYER: Thank You Lord for being the Lord that continues with me. I see day after day with You.

WHEN THERE'S NO RAIN! - Taken From Your Head Series 003

I Kings 17:1, KJV

"And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word."

Today, I continue with the series I've been on and I'll be teaching under the heading, "when there's no rain!"

Elijah exercised God to bring judgement upon Ahab and the whole of Israel for forsaking God. It comes in a pronouncement that says, "for these years, there shall neither be rain or dew but at my Word." This Word became acted upon. It immediately goes into effect and suddenly, dry season begins unending. Some might have thought it would soon be over but when rain should rightly fall and it didn't, the unbelieving in those days must have come to know that God's declared Word through Elijah is valid and cannot be turned except by his own mouth.

This closure of heaven without rain or even dew leads to a serious famine in the land. The famine is so serious that even Ahab the King had to vacate the throne to divide the royal cattle with Obadiah (head of his house) so they could find pastures and save them alive.

In the midst of a famine that God knew would become hectic this way, God didn't leave Elijah comfortless. In famine, Elisha still laughs when what was popular are frowns and unfriendly faces around town. That would have been okay if people's lives were not even endangered. However, that declaration of his came to make a menace of human wisdom.

To see to it that Elijah is not left comfortless and brought harm by his own declaration, the first thing God did for Him was to mind how he'll be hidden from being a victim of his prediction. God knew his prediction had taken root that instance but if Elijah - the man of God who had been feeding before (even if it's not in debauchery) would not die of hunger or thirst, he had to be provided.

As such, what did Elijah hear. The Bible testifies saying, "get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there" (1 Kings 17:3-4).

We all know the rest of the story. That's how it was. Elijah was ministered to serially until the Brook dries and God had to relocate him elsewhere.

What God did for Elijah is simply not leaving him, "comfortless!". The moment you begin to miss one ministration you've been enjoying, you can't but be deemed to have been left comfortless.

However, God sees and He cares!

PRAYER: My needs are met and that rightly. I am not left comfortless.
