FOR THOU ART WITH ME! - Retract Series 002

Read Psalms 23

Psalms 23:4, KJV

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me..."

Brethren, aaaah! You know the Bible says, "...I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me..." You now know why David is not afraid. It's because of God who's with him. David is not ignorant of God and to what extent He can conquer. David knows that He's the Governor-General of all the earth. He knows that the earth is His and even they who dwells there. If that be, then He has the greatest power. It's for this reason David was never troubled even at moments of fear. It's because of He that's with him. What a blessing not to be alone! What a blessing to always have the terrible One by one's side! What a blessing to carry God along; for God to be right by one! What a blessing!

Today's devotional is titled, "For Thou Art With Me." Let me ask, "for who is with you?" You'd say, "for God is with me." That settles it. If whenever you go out, God is with you, then you're a settled man. If because of God's presence only which stood as a terrible One by David he didn't fear when he got to quarters of fear, then it stands to reason that you can't be shaken even in turbulence if God is with you. Or did you not read David's testimony? He said, "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil." Then he attributed why he won't fear to God being with him when he says, "for Thou art with me." Kai! What a thing! What an investment that God is instituted by your side and keeps you everytime! What will kill you? Who can seize you? Ooh, I have not seen even one!

Yesterday, we read that the Lord will preserve our going out and coming in from this time forth and for ever more (Psalms 121:8). "To preserve" means to "watch over or keep safe". That immediately gives away two facts: that God goes with us as we go and that God never sleeps nor slumber watching over us. First, in order to preserve us, He's very close to us. He's closer than an escort and even goes with us all around. He has sent a dispatch of angels and fiery security personnel to see to us and our smart needs. That's why they answer with immediacy "to bear us up on their hands so that we might not dash our foot against a stone (Psalms 91:12)". One reason why you don't have problem going and coming in is because you travel in company of guards - angels. This company is given you for your preservation. They're the first move of God towards your preservation. Since you're too precious, God can't allow a hair of your head to fall down. So, He makes preparation that ensures you not only go out but with an invisible convoy or attendants that sees to your welfare, safety and coming in. These attendants are so sensitive that if you should give a cry of fear, you'll immediately see the salvation of the Lord. Your question would just be, "how did I escape that?" How did I get here?

David knew presence is a reality. That's why he says, "for Thou art with me." Because God was with him, he enjoyed not being moved. He enjoyed stability. Because God's with you, by your side, walking with you when you step out, that's why you've been going out and coming in successfully. The mystery of God's preservation system is that, "I'm with you even when you pass through the waters. It won't overflow you (Isa.43:2)." And it is this that assures us that when we go, we'll also and always retract. Say with me, "for Thou art with me. When I go, I shall always come back." Please, take that to hold your body. Take that and sleep on it. Let it become assurance assuring you. That one can't be broken. We've searched it out before serving it as meal. Bless you in all your ways this week.

PRAYER: For Thou art with me, I fear no evil in the day and in the night; in my going out and coming in. When I go, I shall come back.

YOUR TO AND FRO! - Retract Series 001

Read and confess Psalms 121

Psalms 121:8, KJV

"The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore."

You have promises from God and here is one to lift to Him. So far, I have learnt we've been bestowed everything that pertains to life and godliness. It may be that we have not discovered them all. But, these discoveries which may come through revelation will make our lives better.

You have a reason to go and come back. For you, there should be nothing like he left but couldn't return. You're meant to always return because you're fated so. That's the sure word God speaks concerning you. He promised that, "He'll keep your going out and coming in." It means you'll go and also return. It means in the process of going, you won't slip to  go away like that. And even when you have not journeyed, you have nothing to fear about not returning. The conclusion has been predicted already and you should allow it build up faith in you. Even the journeys you haven't slated have the affirmation of God that you'll go and return.

The "going out" of many have been their end. They went out and there was a suspension in this rule for them. Instead of consequently returning, they hanged outside there and never returned. They therefore created much anticipation and fear in loved ones. Eventually, they became, "never to return." But God has another thing to say concerning you. He's saying irrespective of what hit the earth, irrespective of the unrest, turbulence and violence, you'll go and return. The reason is not because you're rich or poor but because He promised to preserve you. And as far as I'm concerned, that's all I want to hear - that He's keeping watch and looking after me. Who else can do this better than God? Your ways are in His hands. That's why if a million of us check out anytime, we'll return completely and without diminishing. It's always nothing missing; nothing broken. When numbered, we always remain our perfect number even as a family. One will not have been kidnapped or another, fallen away. The number we take out is always the number we return with. It's our covenant to go out as a bundle and to return wholly or increasingly.  I say, "we don't diminish." We go and we return. If you're a leader, God is releasing such blessing to take out and bring in. The number committed into your custody won't lack. You won't be summoned to give account and suddenly lack words. You'll always have a reason to say unto the Moses set over you that, "thy servants have taken the sum of the men (of war) which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us (Numbers 31:49, KJV). That's your mystery. Your end from the beginning.

God is also saying you shall be preserved, "from this time forth and forever more." The preservation is like an all expense paid visa. It covers a lot. So, it covers all your trips in this life. You can't use it up at one going out. It's rather a remedy that works for your lifetime? You have the promise of preservation that covers your to and fro any time you step out. It can always be invoked for remembrance before heaven. I therefore declare, your going and your coming are preserved. Even "when thou passest through the waters, He will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee (Isaiah 43:2, KJV)". All these shall be because God is responsible for your preservation to and fro. It will be because you must of surety return. I don't know how thick the smoke is or what affliction has come on the earth, you must always retract. A hollow and a passage will always open for you where there's no way for safe journey to retract and come back in. You won't go and get lost! That's what God promised you. You have His commitment on that and that's heavier than a bag of gold. Therefore, go because your going out and coming in is held in His hands. You go and you come.

PRAYER: I invoke this promise to keep my feet and body from slipping away. None is lost but all is accounted for.

THE TEMPTATION YOU SHOULD NOT FALL FOR

Read Luke 19:36-40

Luke 19:40, KJV

"And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."

One time, I was on the queue waiting to board a vehicle. I was worshipping God, beating the drums and humming all together. But, not with words! As I persisted in that, a thought occured to me questioning if I'm not inconveniencing the fellow before me. Just at that instance when I wanted to give it a thought, another thought came with the title of today's message and said, "the temptation you shouldn't fall for". With this statement came the above verse also.

Brethren, there's a temptation you shouldn't fall for. It's the temptation of keeping silence. That day, I have many reasons to keep my conscience clean. One, I was humming, singing and beating drums in synchronization under my breath. It couldn't have disturbed any. Two, it couldn't have been problem to any around because God gave a go ahead to that act. God doesn't bring chaos to the world. If He saw I was inconveniencing anyone indeed, He will not instruct me not to worship but rather to do it in a way none would become its victim. And I thank God for the voice that came from the excellent glory (II Peter 1:17) to tell me not to remain silent.

Where you must not get to is where you get to get silent. Ha! Being silenced means dying or deactivated already. So, never get where you no longer produce and pronounce sound. That day, though I had not fed afore that event yet I've exhibited so many characteristics of a living being. I walked down to the bus stop myself in respiration (breathing). That morning, to the glory of God, I had visited the rest room also. That may sound condescending to you but all these amidst the MR NIGER DAC that science identified for us were what I did. Only living souls do all those. Any who's alive who can't is earnestly seeking solution to be able to because that is a dangerous indication of ill health. Why then should I not act and live as a living soul? If a baby is born and he won't cry, they'll spank him. What testifies to his being of our community is that he gives off our sound. Why should I not hum, sing, beat to the praise and glory of He who created, gave me speech and spared me till now.

Jesus while on this matter didn't take it easy with some people of His day who became advocate of taking the vow of silence where it matters. Firmly, He rebuked them and advocated that their (the disciples') sound should be allowed to sound. They advised, suggested, recommended that all the disciples should shut up. But Jesus replied shockingly that if they should shut up, stones would immediately shout out. Substitution is real. One reason why you should not stop bringing pleasure to God is that. If you retire from it, many will pick it as duty to God. You've not been created for many things actually but rather to bring pleasure to God (Rev.4:11). Either through your daily living or intentional worship of God, you must not stop bringing joy to God. Cause Him to be happy. That day, as the multitude of disciples shout, 'hosanna in the highest' and left everything jubilant, heaven could actually feel it. They were doing what they were created for. Why should their sound stop? Why should they be silenced?

I pray for you that you'll be made willing to do all activities of a living being. Wherever by ill health, you can't function in good health, I order your restoration and declare your prosperity in there. May you not be replaced in what is your primary duty to do. May you ever keep the second choice waiting for eternity. Where humans should sing, may stones not shout out for joy. May our churches not lack voices and abilities.

Prayer: I will not be silent. I will always worship You. None of my organ shall be silent (by being dysfunctional). I shall not be replaced.

THE FATE OF HUMANITY

Ecclesiastes 1:4, KJV

"One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever."

Today, God is on me and I shall speech on the fate of humanity. This is one cord that binds all of us together as earthly dwellers. Despite that, you can still transcendentally live beyond it.

That place says, "one generation passes away and another comes..." In all these, only one thing is sure - the earth abides for ever. The earth has neither being removed nor ended. It has rather witnessed a lot of, "power must change hands." The rotation of death and birth which happen only does by revolving round the stable earth. So, the earth is the orbit round which passing away and coming merry-go-round around. Since the inception of the earth, a cycle has been running round it. That's the fate of all human beings and all creatures. It is, "if it has beginning of existence; it must have cessation of existence." Why the use of the word, "cessation" and not "end" of existence? Cessation is the separation of the human spirit from its body on the earth realm. Since cessation of existence isn't the end of life (though end of life on earth), yet it fits using cessation and not end of life. End of life would mean no eternity (either in heaven or hell).  Since individuals would therefore live on, it fits to use cessation.

When Shakespeare said, "all the world is a stage", he must have strayed in meditation towards this. It's indeed a stage because it has a door of entrance and a door of departure. It's these events that have been the fate of all humans. Always, "one generation passes away and another generation comes." Yet, the platform on which life begins and ends stays steadfast. If you're here currently, if you've been born; if you're currently reading this, it means "you've come." That you've come means "you must go" also. Over the years, men have devised means of staying here permanently or longer. Yet, all these devices of men and invention tend to obey a law of "one generation passes away and another generation comes yet the earth abides for ever." It's a rule of death and life. If you've been caused here, you must sure be deceased from here. Birth registers you on earth. It makes your star shine for visibility and identification in the realms. Whether you like it or not, at birth, you're numbered amidst God's creatures and His added responsibility here on earth (Psalm 8:4-6). Only death could testify to your star's disappearance. That removal will also bear testimony in heaven. When Jesus was born, his natal birth was seen (Matt.2:2). That star has been on motion from the time Balaam lived and prophesied it (Numbers 24:17). However, it came to stop journeying and found rest on the housetop of the house where Jesus was born (Matt.2:9).

I pray for you that your star won't yet fall. You've been born, may you endure. Only bear in mind that we've been numbered and then surrounded (Psalm 90:9-10). God has determined our bound. We can go far but not farther. We have existence limit.

In the time God has given you to live, make the best decision of being born again by receiving Christ into your life (John 3:16). After this, then live for the found will of God you were created for.

When Jesus came, he came with a duty and for a duty. That's to save His people from their sins and off course the whole world (Matt.1:21). You've not being sent here without a mandate also. What makes us to have used the earth is the fact that we live out our purposes. Whether you die at 29 like David Brainerd, 33 and half like Jesus, 70 like Watchman Nee, 90 like some men or 120 like others, ensure you do not go without doing the will of God on earth. You have no reason to therefore love the world if you're born anew. All that's in the world doesn't worth it (because it shall pass away). However, one thing is sure to abide and that's he who does the will of God (I John 2:15-17).

PRAYER: Lord, I receive You into my life and gives back my life to serve Your will on earth.

THOSE TO FETCH! - Helpmeet Series 006

Acts 6:3, KJV

"Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business."

Deputies are blessings. But, wrong choice of deputies can cause you many harm. Your intention is to be blessed and not cursed. This lone reason should pervade and perpetuate who to choose as deputies.

It's better for a man to be alone (though needing help) than for him to have the wrong help. When God says, "it is not good that man should be alone", He coupled Adam with Eve. But not just any help, "but a helpmeet fit for him (Gen.2:18)." This is your prayer and your expectation. Any deputy you'll have who instead of meeting needs will create needs in the work doesn't worth it. It doesn't mean you won't have a reason to be useful to your deputies. Many, many reasons. Humanity is always fretted with problems and challenges and that includes you but none should be recruited to this Father's business who in the mind of God will cause the work harm.

The Bible says of the Proverbs 31 woman, "the heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil (Proverbs 31:11, KJV). This should be your testimony over your deputies. Always ask, "am I safe with them? Do I trust them? Are they trustworthy having God's fear?" Anything short of this will deal you harm and wreckage. You'll always shiver and worry for the work and sooner for your own life (in their midst).

The apostles in drawing deacons (deputies who will relieve them of their responsibilities in order to concentrate on prayer and the ministry of the Word) clearly instructs on who to draw. They are to be men whom everyone trusts (not known for cheating or any bad reputation), full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. While the number of deacons is fixed for seven here yet the workload is what will command the number to be drawn.  Don't forget, the complaint is on discrimination and how some poor widows are being neglected in the food line. This birth the need for those whom people could trust. And not only that but those who are full of the Holy Spirit. When you're full of the Holy Spirit, you'll be opened to leading and you'll be effectively led. It means, in the process of serving bread, they'll be opened to using discernment to pick any who's a deceiver and would be just at heart to justify their dealings with these poor widows. You can't bypass these deacons. If you've been allocated food or you aren't a widow, you can't lie about it. The Holy Spirit they're filled with is He who will teach them all things coupled with their wisdom to research for the truth. They have an unction from the Holy One. And then wisdom. This is what makes them sensible. It makes them able to administer practical judgement to the ease and comfort of all these poor widows. It teaches them how to act.

The moral is that anyone can't be brought to carry the ark of the Lord. It must be those designated for it. Those who are are those who have met the criteria of God in touching and doing his work. If you choose men who are not of honest report, you'll suffer harm. They can never report honestly to you. They'll be those changing figures to reenter those that fit their interest. I heard my ministry father speak of some church workers especially those in charge of the printing of a church. These men would strike deals with the printers to put down on the receipt certain inflated money as against the original cost of any done job. In the first place, these members are never disciples. They've learnt the world than Christ. To worsen the situation, the printers are as well compromisers and are now asking the delegates of my own ministry father, "how much they should enter on their receipt for their sake?" Those ones wonder what else to enter if not the exact cost. With the other brethren, this is how both share the reward of this false gain. My concern is how that leadership has been suffering harm and what harm they'll still suffer. But also, we should ask whether honesty indeed flows from the top down in their own ministry and could be visibly seen by all and sundry for emulation. In either case, be a man of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and practicable and good ways of doing things. I pray, may we all be useful in God's vineyard. May we all know that what we do is unto the Lord and not any man.

PRAYER: Lord, touch the hearts of all living in falsehood in the vineyard. Touch the heart of any causing harm on your work and reputation.

SIDE ATTRACTION IS DISTRACTION - Helpmeet Series 005

Read Judges 9:7-15

Judges 9:8, KJV

"The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them; and they said unto the... tree, Reign thou over us."

There's one thing I have found effective to put men of great calling in trouble. It can like a rudder turn their ship to stray from its cause. It's what I've called "side attraction." The devil would flash it as attraction but in reality it is "distraction."

There's no reason to envy anyone to the extent that you forget your usefulness to picking theirs. Mature people know they're not made for every occasion. So, they stay their hands from going into what their creation, calling, equipping or training have no function for.

I know a brother who rarely forgets the birthdays of people and other special days. He'll make a good "Visitation/Welfare Coordinator." This brother would visit and visit you. He'll call and strike a conversation with you tirelessly. And for this, men would acknowledge his having being there. I know and have heard a great deal about people he has comforted just by this.  Now, it would be foolishness for another to say he'll be this brother when he has not been dealt the measure of this brother's grace to look unto the ways of others in such an unselfish manner and degree. You may like the fact that people are indebted to him but you shouldn't hastily pick that assignment up if you're not allocated or graced for it. Meanwhile, if you'll find and stick to your assignment also, you shall also have commendation of men and importantly, acknowledgement of heaven. This is what makes us parts in the body of Christ. We are many with different functions. If your hands covet being your nose and they do, you'll immediately become endangered. Staying and not breaking rank is what preserves humanity (I Cor. 12:12-27).

Jotham gave a parable. The trees needed a king and approached some reputable trees to reign over them. On each occasion that each tree is proposed to, there's a decline of the offer because each of them has already found their life long assignments. It's this they daily give themselves to. For short, they have commitment and that's the strong argument these trees used to excuse themselves from distraction.

Judges 9:9,11,13, KJV

"9 But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?"

"11 But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?"

"13 And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?."

Who don't know being a king avails one certain rights, power and privileges? That's a covetous position but none budged despite how tempting the offer was. They wouldn't succumb. Rather, each of them keep reminding their world of the need to stay in purpose - what they have found as lifelong commitment like the apostles said, "it's not reason that we leave the Word of God and serve tables... but we'll give ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the word (Acts 6:2,4). This discovery then fills their minds with enough energy, focus and vision for their assignment.

Nowadays, people don't care. They'll call it an opportunity; they'll call it the new land God is calling them to take; they'll call it the taken over of the wealth of the Gentiles. Those trees are clear. It's always "how I can leave my fatness, sweetness and cheering wine to be promoted over the trees?" How can I leave purpose to vainglory? God, affect us on our inside. Teach us that we may not be tossed to and fro by every wind of what looks attracting, interesting, promising or even intimidating but which is not our calling or ordained purpose. May we know that by our calling and purposeful life with which we've been cheering (delighting) God and have (affected, impacted) men, is our reward. May this mind always be in us that it's when we stay in/with our purpose we won't lose relevance but rather constantly hear testimonies that by us, "they honour God and men." How can they praise our Father who's in heaven unless we shine that light first of all? I pray that men shall have cause to say, "praise the Lord" for you. By the time they look back to recount what God has used you to do or touch in their lives, it would always be, "for by him" we're encouraged and this helped. It's by his usefulness we're cheered as humans and God is praised and glorified. However, only those who discover purpose, do it and continue in it ever hears that testimony. That one is a consequence of the "so shine a light." So, let your light so shine in what you have found as purpose so that words may go out on you that by your contribution has your world being touched (and that to God's glory).

Bear in mind that distraction would come. For the apostles, it camouflaged as a duty but they rather found it delegated to the deacons in order to have time for prayer and the ministry of the Word. This wisdom is what those trees also apply. Their not accepting kingship means, "the offer is kindly delegated." Find whosoever is less busy to take it. If you know your lane, you can't be called into another. It's those who are not sure and haven't seen the results of their calling (as to be well established in convinction) who gives attention to every voice that beckons to "make them king" even when they have a purpose the world is already dying for or awaits on tiptoes. God, enlighten and open our sights and hearts.

PRAYER: Lord, let me see distraction and false calling for what it is no matter how carefully disguised and wrapped.

WHEN YOU'RE INQUIRED TO YIELD THE DAINTIES OF YOUR MINISTRY - Helpmeet Series 004

Read Acts 15:1-33

Acts 15:19-20, KJV

"19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood."

A time would come that you'll be required to yield the dainties of what you say you're given to. What you're given to is what you're a rabbi in. You can't be repeatedly given to a thing and not mature in it until you're graduated into a master. We read of Asher who yields his royal dainties.

Genesis 49:20, KJV

"Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties."

You must be known for something and that's what you produce!

There are things that are the products of our diligence, persistence, mastery or having given ourselves to things like prayer and the ministry of the Word. Many ministries anyway there be! A time would come I say when what we say we do and have given ourselves to would be sought and needed to be benefited from. That day must prove your day if indeed you've given yourself to it.

In today's reading, Paul and Barnabas were sent by the church at Antioch to find out what's acceptable for the church in Antioch to believe amidst the flying around teaching in town that "if you're not circumcised after the manner of Moses, you can't be saved (v.1). This school even when disputed with by Paul and Barnabas (v.2) rather leaves the brethren in  confusion of which to really believe, uphold and practice. For these reasons were Paul and Barnabas sent back to Jerusalem to find out from the source - men Jesus directly discipled and gave the ministry of prayer and the Word (to feed His lamb) to which to believe of the two being said.

The response of the apostles or what is called the Jerusalem Council immediately proves that indeed, when the apostles said they'll give themselves to the ministry of the Word and prayer in Acts 6, they indeed did same. It isn't that they went to sleep. The reward of having laboured at a particular time is to be able to enter rest another time. That proves for the apostles. When the matter was tendered, though some amidst them who are of the Pharisees contended it yet Peter wasted no time on the need "not to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither their fathers nor them were able to bear? (Acts 15:7-11)." These Pharisees only wanted the Jews to be as they are but there's a cultural difference. Circumcision came prior to the law and that was at Abraham's time. It's a step to being God's people. But, should that still count now even for the salvation of the Gentiles? Peter and James gave the right answers which consequently is having effect on those of us who are Gentiles today. Immediately, it shows some people have been gazing into the perfect law of God than others or are more yielding to the Spirit.

Later on, James speaks more authoritatively on the matter. Like a judge called to give the final verdict, he says, "and this is my sentence..." Imagine that! Who gives a sentence that he's not sure of? Who gives a sentence or declare a conclusion/resolution over what he has not first thought about and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to him on? So, when James says, "and this is my sentence" and vomited same, we're immediately hinted what good it does one to have being committed to his ministry. It'll allow you to answer a long or tough question in brief moment to the awe of all. You'll make tactical decisions under God easily. It'll make you have a ready answer at hand for anyone and everyone who request of you the hope in you.

Indeed, when the brethren agreed to what Peter and James said and author a letter to that effect, when read, the entire church rejoiced and found consolation in it. Did you see how quick the confused and some who might have heeded that doctrine were quickly recovered? That's because some didn't leave the ministry of the Word to serve tables. If they have left or have ran both together, their profit wouldn't have been this revealed for all to see.

You see, someone will one day benefit from the fact that you have ample time to pray until you have assurance of prayer that your own prayer always command answers even if they are muttered. So, when we should give (without holding back ourselves) to what would make our usefulness experienced, let us. What you have time for is what you can sharpen and take to its topmost height of usefulness and calling.

PRAYER: Lord, I clear myself of distraction to be taught of the Holy Ghost as I study the Bible.

BIBLE IN A YEAR: Exodus 8:1-9:35; Matthew 19:13-30; Psalm 24:1-10; Proverbs 6:1-5
